Any news on a patch coming soon or should I just trade this game in? Don't get me wrong, it's a good game & fun at times but I'm really big on immersion especially with my sports games. The frame rate drops are really putting a damper on would otherwise be a great experience. Some may be able to overlook it but I can't. It sticks out like a sore thumb especially because the game looks so real at times. I'm not the biggest baseball fan so I tend to get the Show every few years. If frame rate issues are common with this series then I can do without it. I didn't expect a game on my PS4 to be having constant frame rate issues. This should be a thing of the past smh. Like I said it's really unfortunate because otherwise this game would be great.

Re: framerate is extremely disappointing
It's a constant thing with the game. Was similar on last few years in certain stadiums. Funny how they let this pass year after year. Only positive is that this year it doesn't stutter or drop in framerate with the pitcher/batter sequence

Re: framerate is extremely disappointing
The following are primary reasons frame rates drop / stutter / freeze:
- Hardware can't handle it (settings to high)
- Fragmentation
- Cooling issues
Seeing that #1 isn't really a possibility on consoles, it must have something to do with the optimization of the game. I don't think the PS4 has any cooling issues. From my perspective, no other game has frame rate issues on the PS4...just The Show.

Re: framerate is extremely disappointing
Many Madden cutscenes chug just as bad if not worse. Regardless, I sure as hell hope it's an optimization issue and not a hardware issue. Hardware issues would suggest this game is already bumping into the performance ceiling for this generation? In year one? With what is more or less a PS3 port with over-ambitious crowd design? That'd be a real shame.Comment

I'm sure the gang at SCEA understand the issue and are looking into it. The Show is still a fantastic game, just needs a little refinement.Comment

Re: framerate is extremely disappointing
[QUOTE=Cod;2046451603]The crowd design of FIFA is similar to that of The Show, thus, I highly doubt the hardware is the issue.
This is not known for certain. Even if the crowds look identical, the design under the hood can not only be completely different, but can also cause massive performance issues all depending. Which is why your next statements are so crucial...
I'd be willing to bet its an optimization issue that will get sorted out in the next iteration of The Show, or a future patch. A patch may be too far of a stretch though since the entire game would need to be re-optimized.

People have said that '14 on the PS4 isn't similar to '07 on the PS3, and I disagree. Sure, they have feature parity, but I think the jumps to '15, '16, and beyond will be equally as drastic as the jumps to '08, '09, and so on. I find '14 to be a wonky, incomplete product. I think we're going to see a lot of the right changes made for '15... except for presentation, perhaps.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: framerate is extremely disappointing
Whatever graphical sacrifices need to be made to get this series to a steady 60 FPS, I am all for it.
Timing is everything in baseball videogames, and frame stutter at the plate, on the mound, or in the field can change a game's final score.
In terms of PlayStation 4 sports games frame rates:
NBA 2K14, FIFA 14 (broadcast camera) and NBA Live 14 (broadcast camera) are all a steady 60 hz during gameplay, though even FIFA and Live will drop a lot of frames during cutscenes.
MLB 14 The Show, Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14 (Be A Pro camera) and NBA Live 14 (Overhead, Be A Pro cameras) are all very unsteady and below 60 hz, even during gameplay.
I expect that the next editions of these games will be much more optimized, as the developers become more accustomed to programming for the new systems.Comment

Re: framerate is extremely disappointing
While I didn't support 14 in any way, these guys did have a LOT on their plate for a near launch game. I KNOW we can expect massive improvements all around come next April or March. 15 is going to be way more polished in just about every regard. They had better get that field coloring right or at least decent though.
For one thing you guys are comparing a terrible system like the PS3 to a beast like the PS4. There is a huge amount of room to wiggle on the PS4. Expect massive optimization and just an all around much better game next year. Please remember MLB 07 lol.Comment

I play both on PS3 and PS4, and graphics is noticeably smoother on PS3.
While some sort of "wow" factor is always welcome, especially in graphics department, I do agree that frame rate is very important, to the extent that I keep playing the game on PS3 this year.Comment

Re: framerate is extremely disappointing
How can one measure a frame rate of a game? Is there any sort of benchmark that people do?

If you had time and want to test FPS yourself, you need to us a HD PVR to capture your gameplay first. Then take the # of unique frames and divide by the number of second over a specific period of time.
The only sports title EG has done is FIFA 14. The game ran at a smooth 60 fps w/o issue during gameplay and a solid 30 fps during replays / cut scenes. So remarks about all EA games being the same is incorrect. Also, keep in mind, this was a launch title for the PS4. Here's the link: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...t-gen-face-off
Personally, I don't care about cut scenes that much since I can skip through them; however, I do want a solid frame rate when playing the game. Hopefully the crew at SCEA will get this worked out. I have confidence they will.Last edited by Cod; 08-13-2014, 01:11 PM.Comment
