Re: This game feels so scripted at times
There is a difference in that when a game is scripted, situations are forced. That's what a game being scripted means... and rating boost doesn't really force any situation. That may make certain outcomes more likely to happen, but it's still not forced.
The specific mechanism is no longer in place in the game, anyways.
But bringing in an inferior reliever is effectively similar to giving hitters a small advantage. It looks all mysterious only because the difference isn't really visible to the gamer.Comment

Re: This game feels so scripted at times
That's my entire argument though (if you did indeed read my previous posts, if not I apologize). I don't think outcomes are scripted. I don't think results are scripted. I think players and situations are affected that boost the potential for an outcome to occur. There is a difference in that when a game is scripted, situations are forced. Re: This game feels so scripted at times
It was in MLB The Show '09 and dropped in '10, I believe.

People were questioning the comeback being on when the option was off even back then.Comment

Re: This game feels so scripted at times
I'd say the first step in doing that is trusting the people who develop the game.
If they say there isn't a comeback script written in the code, then there isn't and like it's been said pages ago in this thread, until someone proves that wrong, the developers' words are official.Do it. (Release The Show for PC)Comment

Re: This game feels so scripted at times
I believe it was 09'.
Calling it a comeback code option is a stretch though. I think it gave a 3 point ratings boost when the player was up by 3 or more.
The option could be toggled off. And even with it on, the ratings boost could easily be overcome with sound strategy.
Don't quote me on the year and coding of it. This was a LONG time ago.

Re: This game feels so scripted at times
Of course, that didn't stop people from claiming the option was broken and always turned on regardless of the setting (I remember that ALL too well...). Probably why they got rid of the option the following year.I believe it was 09'.

Re: This game feels so scripted at times
Though P.A.D. and I disagree on the coding, I'm happy the Mods are leaving this open.
We all want the same thing here: For the greatest game in sports gaming history to continue to get better and better.
For that I will like your post! Not for the comeback stuff...which....
*whispers*
...doesn't exist!

Re: This game feels so scripted at times
Agree. This is an extreme rarity on OS - a discussion of this topic that has remained mostly civil. I'm pretty sure that's why the mods are letting it go (and even participating in the discussion).Though P.A.D. and I disagree on the coding, I'm happy the Mods are leaving this open.
