Re: This game feels so scripted at times

I appreciate the help/advice I've gotten. I'll try a good handful or more games without QC and see if I get more realistic results.

From some of the more sarcastic remarks, I quickly remembered why I don't post as often as I used to.

I wouldn't say the game is scripted, but in my opinion, the CPU batters' plate coverage indicator is too big by default. I play legend batting and all star pitching. I turned the CPU contact slider all the way down and see the CPU batting is reflecting reality more. They don't strike out too much. They get a realistic amount of hits - doubles and HRs too. Turning the slider down made their PCI the same size as mine, so the playing field is level now. I get some awesome games like this.

I was actually down 6-0 the other day, I came back to tie it 6-6 in the 9th. (Just to have that stupid fielding animation where if you're not perfectly positioned the guy drops it trigger (even tho I was under the ball) and lose 7-6. So YOU can also come back if you're getting good stuff too soooooo.

How can you view your pitcher's fatigue level? In previous years, you could hit the directional button and it showed the fatigue meter. I haven't found it this year.

MLB 14 The Show is not scripted. Every game is different for me.

Ya definitely NOT the case. This happened to me the most frequently when I was new to the series. I find myself begging for the computer to punish me a bit more often then I curse it for doing so.

You'll learn, its 100% the situational pitching.

also take a look at the pitchers confidence and whats confidence he has in his pitches.

i dont think its scripted, but last night i tracked the A's pitcher against me and his pattern remained the same for 4 straight innings. 2 strikes in the zone, 1 ball then another strike. everytime he had me 0-2 unless i swung at the pitch.

Re: This game feels so scripted at times

I heard a rumor a couple years ago that SCEA was trying to hire away a Naughty Dog script writer (Amy Hennig?), so that The Show can be a little better scripted. I don't know what the status is.

One of the reasons why some people feel bewildered by the ineffectiveness of relievers (which often cause late-inning surge of CPU offense) may be that they don't know how much the size of PCI changes based on the pitcher's ratings.

Since you cannot put the PCI on while CPU is batting, even if you throw a fastball in the same location, with a decent starter and a below-average reliever one can retire the batter while the other goes into the stand.

You need to be a lot more careful with relievers than with starters.

And you know when your starter gets shelled they are getting more looks at you as the game on, then they finally brake through the third time through the lineup. My bullpen is very solid and I play with the cubs, I've only blown a couple leads not very many at all 50 games in.

I'm always checking my late-game matchups with left on the D-pad once my relievers are in the game. If I have an average or below H/9 pitcher in there, and a good hitter against that same handed pitcher is coming up, I'm either looking for a better matchup or being VERY careful, to the point where I won't even aim anything in the strike zone (hoping that I might get a lucky corner strike or a swing and miss). It's bad, bad news if you try to throw on a corner and miss over the plate in that situation.

Relievers are always an adventure. Your best reliever will be the equivalent to a number 5 starter. So tread lightly.

Is this another way of saying "comeback code" without actually saying it?

It has been told a lot of times, but this topic comes up every year:

There is no "comeback code" or scripting in this game. If you are experiencing late comeback, you are responsible for it.

I think one of the issues is that people start trying to force their way out of a bad inning/jam and forget to "pitch". They start trying to quickly get through the rough stretch, throw more hittable pitches and then everything snowballs from there.
