Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Got through a long slog of the offseason--I re-rated pretty much all the players with Steamer 2016 projections and updated pitch edits on top of the usual grind. I also updated the rosters to reflect where players are now.

After those tasks were done, I looked into improving on my 65-97 first season with the Marlins. Atop the shopping list was adding MORE POWER (remember that show Home Improvement? lol) and another legit starter to pair with Jose Fernandez. I didn't need to add a closer even though Cishek is gone because Carter Capps got a huge ratings boost and will continue on as my closer.

Here's a look at the depth chart heading into 2016:

One of the things I pride myself on with playing a franchise is to play somewhat realistically, so let me indicate where I got some of these guys from.

**Traded Tom Koehler to Detroit for Bruce Rondon during the '15 season. Rondon was lights out for me in September. The Tigs could use a SP and I had them sign Tyler Clippard to patch Rondon's place in the pen.

**Traded Marcell Ozuna for James Paxton and Chris Taylor during the '15 season. This might actually happen IRL in my opinion. The Mariners have a great Aoki/Martin/Ozuna defensive outfield at spacious Safeco.

**Traded Christian Yelich for Yordano Ventura during the offseason with the thought that Yelich could replace the soon-to-depart Alex Gordon and the Royals could sign Yovani Gallardo to replace Ventura. Ventura gives me a solid, inexpensive #2 behind Fernandez.

**Orchestrated a 3-team trade during the offseason sending Jay Bruce (who had a much better virtual 2015 than IRL) to CLE, while I got Lonnie Chisenhall to play 3B, and sent a pair of near-ready SPs in Logan Verrett and Robbie Erlin to CIN to complete the cycle. I had picked those guys up during the '15 season in fire sale deals of Martin Prado and Mat Latos. Mitch Moreland also came over in the Mat Latos selloff and actually was pretty good down the stretch in 2015.

===============================================

**Signed Steve Pearce to a 2 year $14MM deal. Adds some nice RH power to a team without anything after Stanton.

**Signed Kelly Johnson to a 1 year $3MM deal to basically pinch hit and add depth.

===============================================

**I'm letting Bour and Realmuto assume starting spots, so let's see what they can do.

**I like the idea of Dee Gordon in CF although he's probably more valuable at 2B. I like his speed running down balls in the outfield at Marlins Park.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Just completed a successful month of September by going 21-6 to help propel me into the playoffs. With 3 left to play, I'm facing the Nats with a magic number of 1. The Marlins captured the 2nd wildcard while the Dodgers had best record in NL, winning the West. The Cardinals easily won the Central.

In the American League the Red Sox, Tigers, and Mariners won their division, while the Royals took top Wild Card spot. The Yankees have a 2 game lead for the 2nd wildcard over Baltimore and LA going into the final weekend.

I have a Padres/A's franchise I started on '14 and carried forward to '15. I'm now in May '16 but I'm just now finally getting around to posting the end of season summary for 2015. First I'll just do the minor league systems, spoilered for size.

Is Kris Bryant a future Yankees or future Yankees Killer? After a strong Game 2 against New York, Bryant and Arrieta look to put their team back into the series.

JBoomer's Rockies - Issue #4 - September 2017

Welcome to my franchise, where a complain and moan about how bad I am at this game!

Ive been playing this franchise since launch, and this is only my 4th update.

Similar to last season, I have fallen and burned. We currently sit 68-67, 5GB of the Wildcard, and 13.5GB to those dbag Dodgers. For most of the season I led the wildcard race, but with a August of 9-20, and 6 consecutive series loses, Im failing.

I have a question, and would appreciate feedback.

2015 - 64-98
2016 - 81-81

3rd year of contract, and I have a GM rating of F.

Am I to be fired from this club if I dont reach the postseason?

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

So what do you do when there's a blizzard outside and your stuck in the house? You play Game 1 of NL Division Series between the Cardinals and Mets.

But before that, a quick snapshot of the earlier games played:

Ventura, KC Bullpen stymie Yankees 4-1 to advance against Detroit
Kansas City advances into the next round against Detroit, defeating the Yankees under the tough pitching by Yordano Ventura and KC's shut down bullpen. Key 2 RBI double by Alex Gordan gave Royals early jump 2-0. Ventura surrendered the game to the bullpen in the 7th with a 4-1 lead and watch Herrera, Davis, and Holland finish up.

Nationals outlast Marlins in 14 Innings 4-3
Nationals advance against LA defeating the Marlins 4-3 with Harper's GW RBI double in the 14th Inning for the lead and eventual win. Harper, earlier started Washington's lead with a solo HR in the 2nd against Marlins Ace Jose Fernandez. NL CY Young Stephen Strasburg gave up the late 3-1 lead to NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton's RBI double that tied the score in the 7th.

Kershaw Dominates Capitals in Complete Game Shut Out 2-0
What else needs to be said about this freak of nature. He struck out 10 and gave up only 5 hits.

Cardinals vrs Mets
Game 1 featured Wainwright against Harvey. Harvey was dominant (8 inngs, 9 KO, 1 BB, 7H) but the Cardinals jumped on him early with 2 runs in the 4th after the Mets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 4th. Despite early control problems (4 BB) Wainwright breezes, giving up only 4 hits until the top of the 6th, when with 1 out, Daniel Murphy takes him deep to right field to tie the score at 2, his second RBI of the game. The game featured the 2 best bullpens in baseball during the season matching zeroes until the top of the 13th, when the Mets jumped on Walden for 4 runs. Game 1 - Mets 6-2

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

I simmed year one with the Mets. I managed the roster (for injuries etc.) and also made some moves. I'm very pleased with the results.

I was right around .500 at the deadline. I was 5 games back of the Nats and even further in the wild card race. So, I decided to sell, trading some guys on contract years. I nabbed some prospects and trimmed some payroll.

Our team was plagued by injuries; DeGrom missed most of the season, from May through the entire postseason, with a herniated disk. Harvey had some minor injuries, and Gee and Niese also struggled with injuries. Matz, Thor, Montero, Verrett and Robles stepped up in their absence.

Duda was a beast all year long; he won the Hank Aaron award as he hit 36 homers, 100 RBI and led the league in slugging and OPS.

Wright and Cuddyer had some injury struggles but they had productive years.

Familia saved 47 games. D'Arnaud hit ~20 homers and was the only Met to make the ASG.

I added Jordan Pacheco and Juan Uribe, and those were my biggest out-of-organization moves.

We got hot in August and into September. We were right on the National's tail all September long. We both clinched the playoffs. In the final series of the year, the Nats took 2 of 3 from us. Washington won the division and we got the first wild card spot at 87 wins.

In the wild card game, we hosted the defending champion Giants and won 2-1.

In the Division Series, we beat the 109-game winning Dodgers in 4 games. Wright homered 3 times. (2 in one game.)

In the NLCS, just like real life, the Mets met the Cubs, who added Edinson Volques and Alex Gordon in-season. Unlike real life, the Mets had no answer for the Cubs, who won in 5 games.

The Indians defeated the Cubs in the World Series. The Indians added Jacoby Ellsbury midseason and he was a big difference maker in the Fall Classic.

Terry Collins retired so I hired Buck Showalter to replace him.

Game No. 56 playing as the Braves. I am 14 GB of the 1st place Nats. A record of 28-35...But its the MLB there are special moments throughout the season. I joined pitching immortality using Shelby Miller. Yes! A no hitter, maybe a perfect game, but I did walk one.. His stat line: 9.0 IP, 12 K, BB, 96 NP

I needed a quality start from any starting pitcher. I had lost 6 of my last 7 games. I was going the wrong way. Dead last in the NL East. He stopped the bleeding. Let's see what Folty can do next against the Red Sox.

What makes this so great? I was trying to trade this guy the Mariners for INF/OF Josh Harrison. The deal was in place and it sat there for 5 games... I pulled the deal off the table and said WTF... Shelby is 7-5, 3.00 ERA and 92K. I had him 3rd in my rotation. He's going to number 1 now..

I am attaching a pic or two of my accomplishment.

Re: MLB 15 Franchise Progress Thread

Baseball is one of those crazy games where you should never give up in the middle of a game no matter how bad it appears that you are losing. I just finished one of the craziest games I have ever played. I will set the stage.

I am playing a mid-season home game as the Rockies against the Diamondbacks. I scored 4 1st inning runs to take a 4-0 lead after 1. After 4 innings my starter is doing reasonably well. His pitch count is pretty low though he did give up a 2 run big fly in the 2nd inning. So after 4 innings it is looking reasonably well I have a 5-2 lead. But then disaster strikes. The Diamondbacks score 8 runs in the top of the 5th and after pulling my starter and going through 2 relievers, I am now down 10-4. Time to give up right? There is no way I can comeback. Wrong. I score 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th and 4 more runs in the bottom of the 7th. Now I lead 12-10. Looking good for me right? Wrong. The Diamondbacks score 2 in the top of the 8th to tie the game 12-12. Oh dear ... But then more craziness happens. I score 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th and now lead 16-12. Nuts. This game can't get any crazier can it? Well it almost did. In the top of the 9th the Diamondbacks have the bases loaded with 1 out. But luckily for me, a timely strikeout occurs and then with the bases loaded, 2 outs and a 3-2 count, then game ends on a deep fly out where my center fielder chases a long fly in what appeared to be in the gap hit, he makes a diving catch to end the game. I can not ever remember playing such a crazy game. But in Baseball, one should never give up until the final out is made. You just never know what will happen next.

Nervous? Hell yes I'm nervous. Not sure when I'm going to play this but I'm facing a Game 5 for the NL Division Series against the Cardinals. In the past, my teams were so bad or injury riddled, or just lost interest that I've never made it this far.

I'm in the year 2024. I have noticed that batting averages have gotten really low...only 3 people batted over .300 and the NL leader hit .288. Also, every pitcher throws 100MPH and most pitchers dont get to the big leagues until they are 27 now.

Won the 2017 world series with the Marlins. Then went to the Cardinals and won the 2020, 21, 22, 23 World Series with the Cards. Then I switched to the Angels and just won the wild card game last night.

have finished my season with my Marlins (second year in carry over... won back to back world series) changed managers...pitching coach, signed Chris Davis in the off season... picked up Sonny Gray in trade during ST.

now waiting on 16 to come out so i can hit that "advance to regular season" button so that i can have the real life schedule...

The Yankees need a solution to stop budding Yankee Killer Kris Bryant. That and they would love to go back to New York with a guarantee of a World Series victory or at least a 3-2 advantage at the very least. Michael Pineda looks to continue his redemption story as a Yankee in the postseason.
