Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?

In my experience, there is always an adjustment period with the new game. I had a very hard time winning or hitting with MLB 12 and 13. Don't remember on 14.

This year, I've been doing pretty well, especially since I rarely played 14 after OT's death.

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?

I'm getting mixed results as well. I'm finding the better the pitcher, the more difficult (which is perfect and how it should be). I've been able to take advantage of average relievers though the good ones are tough (Tyler Clippard shut me down).

I feast on subpar starters though, especially those with average fastballs. I've tattooed some hanging curves but have been toast to guys like Verlander who have elite fastballs and tight curves that break hard.

Good changeups are just devastating though. What was cool is when I faced Verlander, I started taking his fastballs to right field and was able to get a few hits that way (just singles).

Had a really tough time with Samardizja's Splitter as well.

I am definitely walking a lot more than I have in the past due to better pitch recognition. They've done a great job with that aspect of the game.

Experiencing the same thing : getting much less hits.
Having a lot of trouble with changeups and also curveballs.

Also got caught looking a few times with fastballs on the outside. I believe it is because they have more movement now.

On 14 i played with a custom zoomed out batting cam. Now i zoomed in some more and this helps when batting.

Yea I don't even play this game that much but being used to stride threw me off as well. I didn't even realize they removed it and I wasn't able to hit much of anything. I changed it to directional I think to try that out and did much better.

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?

in comparison to last year, yes the hitting is a little toned down. But not by much.
With the new pitch movement being a little more exaggerated I needed a short period to adjust.

But it's actually more realistic this time & fun (more hit variety...).

If you find the hitting too hard/too easy, try the Dynamic difficulty, which is the default anyway.

I hit way less HR's (which is good) but I think the triples need to be nerfed, just to many of them, especially online.

Yea changeups own me as well.

Also some pitchers throw ALOT more strikes than balls in this year's game. Some pitchers balance it well between balls and strikes though.

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?

I've found it more difficult to hit this year for sure. Like others I'm definitely struggling with changeups and other offspeed stuff. I wouldn't mind at all if it were a little easier to draw a walk. I'm good at working the count but it seems like pitchers rarely miss the strikezone when there's three balls.

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?

I'm having a terrible time hitting. I don't think it's just you. And it's not like I'm rusty. I just played MLB '14 earlier today and hit just fine.

I'm not complaining though. Hitting is supposed to be hard. That's why we have 5 difficulty levels. If I don't figure it out, I'll just go to an easier level.

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?

What to me is making it seem harder is timing seems to have become even more random.

I went into practice and had the pitcher throw one type and every time he threw it in the location I was testing x presses from, I pressed x.

The ball would go 2 feet. Or sharply hit along the ground to SS or fly ball to RF or to 1B along the ground etc.

I know, because I throw bp to a little league team, I know that if I throw it to a location I can influence batting results. MLB pitchers know this too.

What I am getting at here is if I press X with good timing swinging at a pitch that is located down the middle slightly in I should get some similar results with the bat.

I am not feeling this at all. So because of this I cant take feedback and learn off it if it is random.

I hold down for ground ball and it goes up, I hold left to influence left and it flares out right.

If it was always opposite I could at least learn from that.

                    I am truly puzzled.

I feel like the pitch speed is slower, I'm way out in front of everything even fastballs

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?

Please try this people, just so I know I am not going crazy.

                        Use Posey vs Vargas.

Hit using x or o but do this...

                        Hit, then choose a direction.

I just silvered it with my best batting session, it included grounding hard into a double play. But I was hitting gaps more than I have ever done in this years title.

Press the button then push the L stick, I would choose to push it into the path of the ball. So if he swung a pitch into me I would press x then push the stick right

Think of old tiger woods games where they had aftertouch.

Not saying 1125 is wonderful, just saying the first time I try it this way I bat the best I have in this title.

Also if you want to practice without the wacky change of pitches create a pitcher and make a 2 or 4 seam his best pitch and then nothing in the rest. Then select him as the practice pitcher. This is how you can practice against certain pitch types.

^ cool tip. Never thought of that. I don't see myself practicing though, I'd rather play full games.

Doing so, I've almost lost my habits from 14 and slowly acclimating to mlb15 htiting.
No doubt the offspeed stuff is way slower and has more movement. Once I recognize the pitch, I simply stay back and then let it rip.
                            Good success so far.

This is a two-way street, batting is toned down but pitching seems stronger. So when pitching, it's much easier to strike batters out now.

Yep what you said. It feels almost like that madden year they went all defense, ravens cover?

Just put up a 1270, was sitting on 1370 and popped one out to 2nd my last at bat. Its sort of ungainly to swing and point the stick. But the results are better for me at least.
