I played 3 games today, and all 3 went into extra innings because I cannot score more than 4 runs. My pitching has been great, maybe better than last year. But I am out in front of every changeup, late on every fastball. I tried lowering and upping the pitch speed. I have never struggled offensively like this. Very frustrating

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
Which camera are you using? I've changed it to classic catcher 3 and raised pitch speed to 7, and I'm still struggling. It's getting to the point that I don't think I will be able hit this year because of how hard it is to read changeups.
Everyone in the game has the appearance of Glavine movement, but I don't want to change it to were the CPU is throwing meat pitches so I can hit. The timing window seems to have decreased this year as well. Kind of just considering going back to 14 and updating rosters.
Basically, align yourself with how the catcher sees things, from his angle, down in the crouch and whatnot... You want the bottom of the batters box just visible at the bottom of your TV... and the top of the batter's head just barely visible at the top of your TV.
I'm willing to post a screenshot but a) it won't be till later when I am by my PS4... and b) I have no idea how to post screenshots on the PS4.Comment

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
I have noticed this too, the 4 seamer does have movement this yr, Im loving the new ball physics on pitches. They have some nasty late break, definitely not very easy to hit.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
I think the problem is pitch speed overall is way too slow this year. Even on pitch speed 8 the ball looks like it is floating to the plate. It is really frustrating the hell out of me.Comment

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
I've been struggling as well since I got called up to the majors. Then I struck out on a pitch that I knew there was no way I missed, so I went back to review the footage. I didn't miss it, but the ball morphed straight through my bat!
Sorry not sure how to embed videos. If anyone could help w/ that it'd be appreciated.Comment

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
I'm absolutely loving the increased difference between a fastball and off-speed pitches.
Count me amongst the people who love the new system, as I can now finally tell the difference between a change-up and a curveball.
I'm over the moon with the hitting. I'm getting pounded on the pitching side of things, but that's a different thread.Comment

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
Hitting is so much harder for me this year. I have hit into a boat load of double plays and every single liner I've hit into the gap has been caught. I honestly am really frustrated right now. I'm about to be shutout for the 3rd time in the first 8 games I've played and the 2nd time where I've recorded just 2 hits. I wanna scream. It's ridiculous. I've tried being patient and working the count and getting good pitches to hit and it still doesn't help. I always hit the ball right at someone. Doesn't matter if I hit it hard or not it's an out.Atlanta Braves

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
Last years pitch speed was way way slower then it used to be. For most years on the show I had to play on pitch speed like 4 and last year I was at 8 and last years game was way easier to it then ever before to. In the past I had a hard time hitting on all star and last year I was almost able to hit on HOF not sure about this year it.Comment

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
Hitting was a breeze for me the first 3 days I had the game. I usually play on veteran, and had the dynamic difficulty at veteran ++++. It's now Sunday morning, almost 2 AM out here in Salt Lake and I don't know if something went to my head or hit me in the head but now I'm teetering on the brink of being put back into a rookie difficulty and just made Jimmy Nelson look like Cy Young. The hell happened? Advice? I wait for goot pitches and it seems like I get punished for waiting longer into an at bat with a lazy fly ball.Comment

Haha. I had to. Seriously though, it is very easy for this game to get into your head on the hitting side of things. As I have said previously, the changeups, curveballs and sliders in this game are just mind boggling this year. The few times I actually don't swing at them, I am seeing more walks which is great. However, the ridiculous amount of swings and misses I have had this year on those pitches is melting my brain.Comment

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
I find it to be the opposite. Way easier this year. I was on All-Star last year and my team batting average through 65 games was .230 with the Padres. I have only played a few games with '15 and am smacking the ball all over the place. On top of that, if I used the contact swing I feel like I'm batting .750.Comment

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
I would have to say pitch speed is definitely an issue this year. I was playing with the Braves, pitching with Mike Foltynewicz and his fastball was hitting 98 while his change was around 77 or 78. And with both of these pitches looking relatively the same, I don't know how that is possible to adjust to.

Re: Is batting harder or is it just me?
I play on All-Star level, guess pitch off, default sliders (as of now) and do a fairly decent job at hitting. I'm typically striking out between 4 and 7 times a game and drawing 3-5 walks, so I'll share some tips, but your mileage may vary. These are the things that help me:
1) Do not watch the strike zone and wait for the pitch to cross the plate. Instead, clear your mind about reading pitches and focus on picking up the ball right out of the pitchers hand. To do this you need to get into a rhythym with the pitchers windup. If you continue to do this, your brain will begin to respond better to what it sees, and you'll be quicker with your swing. Your pitch recognition and zone vision will naturally improve.
2) Keep in mind what the pitcher is trying to do. For example, with a guy on first and less than two outs, you can expect offspeed stuff down in the zone. Pay attention to location and how he may be setting you up.
3) If you're going to take a pitch, don't shut down and be a spectator. Still do #1 above to help keep your timing on target.
4) Lay off the first pitch if it's junk. If your in a 2-0 or 3-1 count, the pitch should be perfect.
5) With two strikes, use contact swing and look for offspeed. There will be more room for error when using contact swing, so you'll can still foul off a fastball and stay alive. Foul and foul and foul away - you're draining the pitcher's energy away while increasing your chances of a walk or getting a good pitch.
6) I only use power swing on a 2-0 or possibly a 2-1 count, never on 3-1. When it's 3-1 it's more difficult to check a power swing if the pitch is drifting out of the zone.
7) If your opposing pitcher only has three pitches, then it's sometimes helpful to simply look for his number one pitch until you have two strikes.
8) Keep in mind who you have at the plate, and how your hitting the guy on the mound. If you're getting fooled too much, switch to contact swing full-time.
Hope this helps some of you. Until I started following the above tips I was abysmal, but I've steadily improved.Last edited by JTommy67; 04-05-2015, 12:01 PM.Comment
