One thing that I noticed is rarely do I hit foul balls. If I have bad timing and PCI far away from the ball it used to be a foul ball. Now it is a pop up or dribbler.

      That's a really good point.

I "feel" like I'm not getting a lot of second chances. That said, I haven't tracked them. I also use Quick Counts so I'd really have no way of knowing if I'm hitting too few/too many.

This thread is interesting to me because for some reason I'm having a much easier time hitting in this game compared to last year. I play on Legend too.

I agree. Last year i had to up HUM contact to 6 on HOF. This year im on default HOF with solid hits at 4. I think people, in general, are still trying to settle in to their timing, approach, etc. Its a proven fact that the more you do something the better you get at it. Still very early in the season.

I've been pretty awful at batting this year, but I think some of it comes naturally with getting accustomed to the new game. For instance, I'm waaaay out in front of change-ups now. Can't explain it, they just look different coming across the plate.

I've actually found hitting to be easier this year. Maybe I'm just being patient and hitting better pitches but I'm up to HOF+ on dynamic difficulty and rising.

I'm also getting less fouls than in years past. Now balls that would have peeled back into the stands are staying in the air longer and are staying in foul territory for outs. I'm definitely seeing fewer shots into the stands.

Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I did notice it.

I think Quick Counts have forced me into some bad habits. I find that I'm swinging a lot but sometimes I feel like I have no other choice because generally if I take a strike, my back will be up against a wall because I'll likely be down 1-2.

How are you Quick Count players approaching hitting?
Same here. I love the feature because it cuts game time in half, but you can't always wait for your pitch when you're given a two strike count so you are constantly backed into a corner having to protect.

It is better this year now that you start with fewer two strike counts, although I seem to get screwed a lot with runners on base. 😃

Has anyone noticed anything different this year that I can apply to help me get going?

I'm a Timing Only hitter. Default AS. I've so far only used directional situationally, and 95% of the time, I'm X only. Am I supposed to use Directional and power/contact more now?

My "Good" timing hits all seem to be hit in the center portion of the field, usually for outs. Early and Late is so incredibly brutally punishing this year that even when I am able to turn on something and get a base hit I feel like it was bad strategy, because the other 9 out of 10 times I'm early/late I hit a weak popup/chopper.

I'm struggling identifying pitches this year too, which was never a problem. Same TV, same chair, same difficulty level and everything. I guess the new and easier to see pitch breaks haven't become obvious to me yet?

Anyway, any advice would be great. If you guys noticed ANYTHING different from last year that I can apply in 15, help would be appreciated.
Pitch speed is a lot slower
the timing window is way less lenient
the default camera makes hitting quite hard
foul balls are below where they should be.

that's the shorthand for all the things I've noticed.

I corrected pitch speed and the camera about 2 games in and immediately started hitting significantly better. Sliders help for the other 2, but I'd say the change in pitch speed and the poor camera angle are the biggest culprits here.

That is interesting that you say that about the speed being slower because last years game the pitch speed was way way slower then it had never been before. Last year I played with pitch speed on like 7 or 8 where in the past I had it at like 3 or 4 and I found last years game to be by far the easiest show game to hit before. So far I am having a hard time hitting but I fell like the pitch speed is just the same as last year and on default I am getting way more foul balls then in the past. In the past I had to have foul balls at like 10 for my self to get foul balls and yet so far this year at default I may be getting more then with it at 10 of years past so I cant agree with those things. I think I am having a hard time hitting so far for 2 reason. 1. I didn't play 14 for a while before 15 so I think I am rusty and 2 I have been using Directional hitting and I am finding that I am having a lot of good timing on good pitches to it only to fly out or softly ground out. I not being able to control the CPI makes hitting to hard so I think I am about done and ready to go back to zone.

Can't say I disagree with anything you said here, except maybe the camera part. I think my 14 camera got imported with a Y2Y save file.

But everything is on the money. Not that I'm pitchforking for any of it to be changed (except perhaps the fouls bit). Even though I found a nice balance in 14, I would still have classified hitting too easy in general, especially in the HR department.

Good news is is that I managed 9 hits in a game against Kershaw. A QC game that ended in a 2-1 loss but took me an hour and a half because I treated every pitch with every hitter like it was a matter of life and death! LOL! Good stuff.

                          Progress, baby!

That said, what I find extremely worrying about 15 is the lack of hit variety on "good" timed swings/directional/timing this year. The spray chart is essentially up the middle. This makes me wonder if I'm supposed to use the dirrctional option more.

I've got a thread in mind on this topic because I'd like the community's opinion on Timing's spray charts this year. I have a hunch the timing window has been decreased which is causing most well timed hits to be spread between 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock (I've noticed Contact swing has a much larger spread, for example due to the larger timing window), but I'll save the topic for it's own thread. That is, unless you guys want to talk about it here.

It's possible that maybe the broad "definition" of a good camera has changed, because pitch trajectories have changed. An angle that was optimal for reading pitches in 2014 maybe isn't a good angle now, because pitches are breaking differently, spinning differently, and even a lot of release points have been changed.

Not saying it's definite, but it's something to think about.

The thing you're looking at is different, so it's only natural that a different perspective might be required also.

Yeah, that's the thing with QC, you cant always wait for that 1 pitch you want, got to be ready to swing.
Personally I love QC's and its more because I can actually draw walks at a realistic rate, where as in the past my team was always at the bottom of Walks drawn and by a good margin. I still K quite often so that's realistic too.
I have found that I do tend to have more trouble once I get guys on base as well. That may very well be just pressing trying to drive in runs.

I thought with pitch speed slider being more impactful that I might actually hit better as I have had to put it on 0 for a few years now, but Im struggling just as bad as always to get hits and score runs this yr.

I can't buy a hit at the moment. Transferred over my RTTS from '14 where I was hitting around .315-20 with my 99 rated player. Started off pretty much where I left off, and then had a 10-game spell where I was hitting over .400. That soon changed, though, as over the last month of the season my BA dropped from over .300 to .294. Now in the postseason and I'm hitting .083 to continue my massive slump.

I've been able to work good counts but everything I hit well seems to be straight at people, and I'm hitting a lot of fly balls that just hang in the air for absolutely ages. Lots of pop-ups, too.

So yeah, definitely finding hitting tougher this time. Recognising low pitches has been especially difficult. To me, they look like they're near the middle of the zone, then I swing and it says it was down and out of the zone.
