Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Swept the Brewers to get within 3 games of the Pirates for the divisional lead. Pirates have struggled and we have now won 4 straight. The final game against the Brewers was a 15 inning marathon that Piscotty tied in the 8th with a solo homerun and he hit the game winning homerun in the 15th.

I am really starting to have concerns with Holliday as he continues to struggle early in the season. He's only hitting .230ish right now and is not coming up with big hits with runners on and has been a rally killer of late. We will continue to roll with him as I really don't want to trade him and I don't see myself just DFA'ing him either.

Next up is 3 at home vs the Astros before we get back out on the road

Made our first trade of this season here in June as we traded Chris Perry (28 year old reliever who is a minor league lifer) to the Marlins to Joaquin Arias to play at Memphis to help us deal with the injuries we've incurred this year.

Nothing major as we will not keep Arias after this season and we most likely wouldn't have resigned Perry at the end of the year with the youngsters we have in Single A waiting. The Marlins have taken a blow to their bullpen at the minor league levels which meant this was a perfect fit.

And just like that we are back in this thing. After taking 2 out of 3 against the Astros and the Pirates struggling with the Mets, we are within 2 1/2 games of first place. It again appears to be a 3 team race between us, the Pirates and the Cubs. The Reds who were hot in April and early May have fallen off. The Brewers are rebuilding.

We are now on the road for 4 against the Mets who are in 2nd place in the East behind the surprising Braves.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Lost 3 out of 4 to the Mets in New York and back to 4 games behind the Pirates. Mets staff shut us down offensively. Wacha got the only win as Bumgarner, Martinez, and Leake took losses.

I'm to the point where Holiday is becoming a liability in the lineup and something has to be done. I don't know if it's a trade, release, or just sit on the bench to see if a week off or so works. But hitting .220 in the clean up spot with no real power ( 4 homers) isn't going to cut it.

We have 3 in Seattle and 2 in Oakland coming up. I'm going to sit him in these games and let Tejada play 3rd, Diaz SS, and Carpenter 1B. I'll have DeJong DH.

After these 5 games I'll decide what to do with Holiday.

Hate to move him but I'm regretting signing him to a year deal and letting Adams go

We took 2 out of 3 against the Mariners in Seattle. DeJong has to be the unluckiest hitter, as he hit the ball hard in just about every at-bat during the series but only had a hit to show for it. Moving forward it will be DeJong at 3rd, Tejada at SS, Wong at 2B, and Carpenter at 1B, as we decide what to do for the 2nd half push, although we are still 6 weeks away from the trade deadline.

Next up is 2 in Oakland. Sweep would be nice as we currently sit 5 games out of first.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We split with the A's as our bullpen blew up in the 2nd game blowing a 4-0 lead in the 9th inning. Marcus Siemien hit a 2 run walk off homerun to win it for the A's.

The very next game Rosenthal blows a save giving up a solo homerun to Nolan Arenado to the tie the game at 5 vs the Rockies. Thankfully Carpenter delivered a walk-off single to drive in Sierra to win the game 6-5.

We are currently 4 1/2 games behind the Pirates as the month of June comes to a close.

Still debating what to do with Holliday. He hasn't played the last few games, although to did pinch hit (walked) in the game against the Rockies. Trade market is weak for him, not surprisingly, and I've thought about DFA'ing him, but haven't made up my mind.

I'm thinking I'll give him a go in the next game against the Rockies and see what happens.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Holliday did not disappoint in this most recent game vs the Rockies. He went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk. All 5 at bats were good at bats.

I'm thinking that maybe I'm going to platoon him going forward, giving him more days off during the week instead of only when he "needs" it.

We beat the Rockies in this game 9-2 with Leake throwing a complete game which was sorely needed as our bullpen really needed a break.

2 games left with the Rockies before we turn our attention to the first place Pirates for a 3 game series in Busch.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We missed out on the sweep of the Rockies as we lost 5-2. We left 15 runners on base...absolutely frustrating! We had 2 on with none out in the 9th only to strike out 3 straight at bats. Bumgarner continues to be in a funk as he is winless now in his last 4 starts and is getting lit up like a Christmas tree.

We are now 5 1/2 games behind the Pirates as we face them for a 3 game series at Busch.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Took game 1 vs the Pirates to get back to 4 1/2 out. Couldn't afford to be swept. Our bullpen (Siegrist and Walden) once again blew the lead late, but our bats bailed them out again. Holliday is playing pretty well currently as he's hitting over .300 in his last 10 games with 1 HR and 5 RBI. That's the production we need.

Be glad to get guys off the DL. Currently we have 9 guys in our organization on the DL with 1 more injured, although he's still active. Really taking a toll on making roster moves based on performance.

Getting ready to play the AA Texas League All-Star Game. Time to evaluate our players who are on the roster and scout players from other teams.

Love following your franchise. You play every game correct? I just finished my MLB 15 the show carry over season (started it with 14). I own both 16 and 17, but excited to start my 16 season now. I am the Phillies and had 2 miserable years. It has been torture playing every game (including spring training).

                      MLB 14: 61-101
                      MLB 15: 65-97

Have some good pieces in place for 16. Crawford is developing and could start year in MLB, Tommy Joseph has had back to back 20 HR, 80+ RBI seasons, Jorge Alfaro was called up late and hit .320 with 5 bombs and 12 RBI in 22 games, Aaron Altherr was a 20-20 guy. Don't post much, but enjoy following.

Ton of respect, man. You just don't see guys willing to play a game that they're losing so much. When you finally build a winner though, it will be so much more satisfying.

Lol, there is a reason it took me 4 years to finish 14 and 15. I am a baseball nut and that's all I play on my PS4. Just has to take breaks in between out of frustration haha. However, once i become competitive it will be that much bitter sweet and really feel like I earned it. 2-2 in spring so far. 16 is a damn good game

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We took 2 out of 3 against the Pirates to get within 4 1/2 games as the month of June comes to an end. Next up is 4 against the Braves in Atlanta.

We are definitely back in the hunt and now the attention turns to what moves, if any, do we need to make to better our team for a run to October. A big bat off the bench would be nice to have, but I'm not sure the market will allow that happen, at least without sacrificing the reserves we have. An infielder who could play pretty much anywhere in the infield, and has pop in his bat would be ideal, but again I don't know that the market will present that type of player.

Our everyday lineup as it stands:

                              Magnerius Sierra - CF
                              Stephen Piscotty - RF
                              Matt Carpenter - 3B
                              Randall Grichuk - LF
Matt Holliday - 1B (hitting great since he's getting more rest and moved down in lineup)
                              Paul DeJong - SS
                              Carson Kelly - C
                              Kolten Wong - 2B
                              Pitcher Spot

                              Bench:

                              Tommy Pham - OF
                              Jon Jay - OF
                              Justin Wilson - IF
                              Reuben Tejada - IF
                              Josh Thole - C

Right now it's working but I would love to replace Wilson with someone that has pop in his bat. We don't have that player that can come off the bench to pinch hit in a situation where one swing of the bat could change the entire dynamic of the game. Really would like that.

Pitching wise we are solid with enough depth at the AAA level to make roster moves the rest of the way to stay fresh and be strong. Our pitching staff is very deep, especially starters and I'm not opposed to using a young starter in the pen at the major league level if it means we play deep into October.

We won game 1 vs the Braves 6-2. Our lineup is hitting extremely well with what we have going. Again, Holliday was given a day off (only playing 3-4 times per week) which let Tejada and DeJong be in the lineup together. DeJong delivered a double and a RBI on a walk. Tejada had a RBI double and made two stellar plays at short.

Wacha was on the hill and only went 5 innings as he struggled with command. But our bullpen was able to shut things down for the final 12 outs.

We remain 4 1/2 games behind the Pirates but are only 1/2 game out of the wildcard as we close out June.

2 weeks until the All-Star Break. 5 weeks until the trade deadline.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
