Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

After the Mariners lose their Opening Day match against the Rangers 6-2 they managed to steal their future ace, Shohei Ohtani from free agency. Ohtani is a young pitcher at age 21. He is currently sitting at a 75 overall with an A potential. If he does well in the minors he could see the majors early in the season if our other starters don't live up to expectations.

      2017 Phillies NLDS Update

Game 3 - Roark vs. Eickhoff
Eickhoff pitched a great game giving up only 2 hits. But 1 of those hits was a solo HR from D. Murphy put the Nats on the board early in top of the 2nd inning. Roark pitched a great game as well, holding us scoreless until the 7th inning. Franco had a RBI double that tied it up at 1-1. We added another run on a S. Vogt solo blast in the 8th. We bring on Storen to shut it down but they string a few hits together and the Nats tie it up on an RBI double from Bryce Harper in the top of the 9th. Tie game, bottom of the 9th, second batter up is Moreland. The have Yusmerio Petit on the mound. On his third pitch, he leaves it high in the zone and Moreland crushes it into the second deck for the walk off! We take a 2-1 lead in the series and have a chance to win the series at home tmrw.

2017 Phillies NLDS Update (Games 4&5)

        Game 4 - M. Appel vs. G. Gonzalez

Washington was in control throughout the game as they cruised to a 7-2 victory behind the pitching of Gonzalez. We only had 6 hits and couldn't get anything going against the lefty. We head back to Washington for a decisive Game 5. We have our ace, Nola on the mound so hopefully we can pull off the upset against the team with the best overall record in the league in 2017.

        Game 5 - A. Nola vs J. Ross

We felt good going into the game with Nola going up against Ross. Definitely felt we had the upper hand in the pitching matchup. But Nola got hit early and never got it going. The Nats went up 4-0 by the 4th inning and our bats could never get it going against Ross. The Nationals went to the pen in the 8th and we tried to take advantage of their bullpen. JP Crawford hit a solo home run to gain a little momentum. The next batter, Franco doubled down the third base line. Next up was Darin Ruf, who came up clutch and blasted a 448 ft home run to dead center, bringing us 1 run away from tying it. We were able to keep them off the board in the bottom of the 8th and we had the bottom of the lineup coming up against Papelbon with our season on the line. Unfortunately we were unable to scratch a run across and our season ends to our division rivals in Game 5 with a score of 4-3.

*Washington defeats the LA Dodgers in the NLCS 4 games to 1. Boston defeated Houston 4 games to 2 in the ALCS. In the World Series, the Washington Nationals continue their winning ways and take down the Boston Red Sox 4 games to 1 to become the 2017 World Series Champion.

          <table><td bgcolor=#004684>End of April - 2018</td></table>

Things are not going well after a good start to the season. We took 3 of 4 from Houston in the first series. Followed that up with 2 of 3 from Minnesota. And then took the first 2 of a 3 game series with Detroit to put us at 7-2. And from there it has all went to hell. Lost the last game of the Detroit series. Lost 2 of 3 to Boston. 4 game sweep at the hands of the Rangers. Did take 2 of 3 from the A's. But followed that up by getting swept by the Yankees and splitting a 4 games series with the Rays. So we enter may with a 12-15 record. 2nd place in the division. 2 games behind the White Sox for 1st. And 4 games out of a Wild Card spot.

The reason for the terrible month all goes to the pitching. A little league team could crush these guys. We have the 4th worst ERA at 4.80. 3rd most Home Runs allowed with 36. 6 of the 7 pitchers that have started a game have an ERA over 4. 3 have an ERA over 5. Ian Kennedy has been the best. And he has just 1 start. 3.81 ERA over 26 innings. Getting a bit unlucky as his FIP is 3.12. Ventura has a 4.98 ERA over 21.2 IP with a 3.69 FIP. Mike Minor 4.13 in 28.1 IP. Zimmer 6.43 in 21 IP. Lyles 5.61 in 25.2 IP. Gee 5.79 in 18.2 IP. And Duffy 4.76 ERA in 28.1 IP. And the bullpen hasnt been any better. Hudson, Herrera, Soria and Hochevar all have ERA's over 4. Davis is at 2.84 and ive had to move him out of the closer role so he can actually get us to the 9th with a lead. Medlen has been pretty good with a 3.32 ERA in 19 IP. Gonna give him a start and see how it goes since no one else is working.

And its a shame cause the offense has been pretty damn decent. We have averaged 4.4 runs per game. Have the 4th most HR with 32. Hitting .270/.337/.427 as a team. Alex Gordon leading the way hitting .316/.410/.520 with 5 HR and 18 RBI. Lorenzo Cain is hitting .330/.389/.417. Has yet to hit a HR this season. Moose has the most HR on the team with 8 while hitting .250/.345/.529. Most dissapointing player so far has been Jackson Yates. Hitting just .196/.275/.283. The rookies though have been great. Mondesi is hitting .289/.327/.526 with 2 HR, 7 doubles and 5 triples. Balbino is hitting.292/.333/.508 with 4 HR. We desperately needed another guy to play the OF with very little off days early. We sent Cam Gallagher down since Yates can play catcher and called up Bubba Starling. In 20 at bats he is hitting .300/.375/.400 with 2 doubles. Our old friend Hosmer is off to a good start in LA hitting .313/.371/.552 with 6 HR.

Down in AAA, Jose Martinez is hitting .344/.449/.489 with 3 HR and 16 RBI. Zane Evans hitting .348/.430/.606 with 5 HR and 16 RBI. Cuthbert .291/.347/.407 with 3 HR. And Brandon Downes is hitting .357/.413/.476 in 42 at bats since being called up for AA. Luke Farrell is 2-2 with a 2.22 ERA in 24.1 IP. David Huff who could get a call up soon hasnt given up a run in 8 innings and has a 0.38 WHIP.

In AA, Nolan Watson is 2-0 with a 2.86 ERA in 34.2 IP. Mark Wilkerson is hitting .311/.373/.405 in 74 at bats. Marten Gasparini was off to a godo start before suffering a calf injury. Was hitting .329/.410/.397. He should be back in a couple weeks. Brandon Downes before he was called up to AAA hit .377/.404/.717 with 4 HR, 2 doubles and 2 triples in 53 at bats.

15 of 28 games in May are at home. Only 9 games against teams with a winning record as of now. Really need this pitching to get its **** together more than ever.

Well, my Rockies ended up missing the playoffs. After a great first 4 months, August and September proved to be too much to handle. We finished at 82-80, but that was only good enough for 3 games out of the Wild Card spots. The Giants won the division, 6 games ahead of us.

The Cubs won the World Series over the Astros.

Next up is the offseason. I'll have a full write up about what happens in the offseason a little bit later.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Have not checked in a a while but after a promising finish to 2016 the Texas Rangers find themselves at the end of May 30-22 and a game and a half ahead of the Astros for first. My team is number 1 in hitting and sitting 21st in pitching. The offseason aquistions have all made a significant impact.

Carlos Santana my starting catcher is hitting 270.
Adam Lind another FA signing is hitting nearly 300
Delino Deshieds is leading the league with a 380 avg.

My pitching staff is hanging tuff, although injuries have taken their part.

Darvish and Cole have both seen time on the DL, which left a first round pick from last years draft a 19 year old to spot start. 2 OK stats so far. Hopefully we can keep up the pace. Im am happy about Wade Davis. He has a .98 era and has converted every save opportunity minus one. The trade I made last year for Mazara was a hard one to pull the trigger on, but it is working out for both of us. By the way Nomar is 5th in the league in RBI's for KC.

Other notes. Cubs are rediculous 39-12. Trying tho avenge last years sweep at the hands of the Dodgers as they try and break the curse

A day before the All-Star Game and the Astros have made a move to better their rotation and get back into the West Pennant (5 GB of Angels). They traded 3 A prospects to the Oakland A's for Sonny Gray.

Curious to see how this plays out for the Astros in my franchise.

                    Rockies 2016 Offseason

It's a new offseason, and with it comes the dawn of new expectations. Some people would consider the Rockies' 2016 season as a success. On July 31st they had a record of 8 games over .500, which was good enough for a tie at the top of the division, but with the end of July came the end of their success. In the final two months of the season, they went from 8 games above .500 to 2 games above .500.

Considering their previous two seasons end up 30 games under .500, that's where the term "success" comes in. They were much better last season, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Improvement is great, but these guys want the playoffs. And they are willing to do whatever it takes to get it.

That's where the offseason comes in. It's a time to bring in some new faces to the major league roster, whether that is from their minor league system or the free agent market.

Here are some moves around the league:

Kenley Jansen - signed a 5 year, $57 million contract with the Rangers
Aroldis Chapman - 6 year, $60 million contract with the Angels
Edwin Encarnacion - 3 year, $32.70 million contract with the Mets
Mark Melancon - 2 year, $11 million contract with the Mets
Jose Bautista - 1 year, $7.4 million contract with the Mariners
Jonathan Lucroy - 5 year, $70 million contract with the Astros
Carlos Gomez - 3 year, $20.1 million contract with the Giants
Jeremy Hellickson - 2 year, $9.6 million contract with the Giants
Josh Reddick - 3 year, $30 million contract with the Yankees
Neil Walker - 3 year, $13.5 million contract with the Braves

As you can see, the AL West made some major moves. It looks to be an excellent battle out there. The Giants also made some important moves, bringing in Carlos Gomez and Jeremy Hellickson to bulster their outfield and their rotation.

These are the moves the Rockies made in response:

Re-signed Nolan Arenado to a 4 year, $69.4 million contract
Re-signed Jake McGee to a 5 year, $19.00 million contract
Let Pedro Alvarez walk after trading for him at the deadline (signed with the Mariners)
Re-Signed Sonny Gray to a 5 year, $47 million contract
Signed Jake Peavy to a 1 year, $3.2 million contract

Here is the rotation going into the 2017 season:

                    1 - Sonny Gray
                    2 - Jon Gray
                    3 - German Marquez
                    4 - Jake Peavy
5 - Jorge De La Rosa

Here is the lineup the Rockies will be putting out there for this season:

C - Tom Murphy (Kurt Suzuki will be his backup)
1B - Mark Reynolds/Ben Paulsen (Reynolds vs. LHP, Paulsen vs. RHP)
                    2B - D.J. Lemahieu
                    3B - Nolan Arenado
SS - Jose Reyes (Trevor Story will be his backup)
LF - Gerardo Parra/Raimel Tapia (Tapie vs. LHP, Parra vs. RHP)
                    CF - Charlie Blackmon
                    RF - Carlos Gonzalez

It's going to be an interesting season, to say the least. We'll see where the Rockies end up in the end.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

After wrapping up the sweep in Seattle we headed to Oakland which turned out to be a very exciting series. I have made more changes to my sliders and I am very happy with how they are now, think I will stick to them finally.

Game 1 came right down to the wire but in the top of the 8th in a 4-4 game we rallied to bring home 3 runs to take a 7-4 lead and Ken Giles closed things down picking up save 8 on the season. Have to give Preston Tucker the credit for this one I brought him in to pinch hit for Kemp and he hit a soloshot to right center to give us the lead.

Game 2 was a different story was a 3-1 game going into the 7th then the bullpen just imploded and allowed 3 runs in the inning and another run in the 8th A's win 5-3.

Game 3 was a very fun game to play. I was leading 2-1 going into the 6th inning when I got 1 more run to make it a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the 6th the A's rallied and brought home 3 runs to take a 4-3 lead in another terrible performance by the bullpen.

Not only the bullpen though throughout tihs series we have just made terrible plays. I think there were at least 5 infield singles in this series for the A's and not tough plays we just didnt throw the runner out. Just dumb mistakes. In game 2 we allowed a bunt to load the bases because we couldnt throw out someone with 67 (I think) speed.

Anyways 4-3 game going into the bottom of the 8th they get 1 more from a solo homer from CoCo Crisp making it 5-3. Top of the 9th last chance for the Stros. Marwin Gonzalez up he rips a single into center field, 1 on. Altuve up now he gets a single through the infield and now runners on 1st and 2nd.

Kemp came in to run for Marwin so we have speed on both bases and at the plate. Springer hits a bomb to center field giving us the lead now 6-5. Correa hets on and Valbuena grounds out so 1 down now. Gattis (Pinch hitting for Castro) gets on base so now runners on 1st and 3rd. Tucker lays down a perfect bunt that gets Correa home and he is safe.

I guess I cant really complain about them getting on base from bunts with slow guys when I do too but still was frustrating. Gomez flied out and Marisnick grounds out to end the inning but we have a 7-5 lead.

Things get hairy in the 9th and we end up having runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs after a ball that nearly left the park to tie it. Fortunately Giles had 1 last good out in him and a flyball to Gomez ends the game Giles picks up his 9th save. We win the series 2-1

Carlos Correa is a legitimate MVP candidate early in the year. Batting .422/.448/.600 with 3 home runs and 20 RBI's. Just a crazy first month of the year. Obviosuly he cant sustain these stats but still a great start. (I think I hit with him so well because I use his batting stance in RTTS)

Tyler White has been great well sort of. He is hitting the ball very well batting .326/.333/.391 but just not getting runs in. He hasnt been put into to many situations to get RBI's but he has only gotten 4. None the less he leads ROTY votes right now.

Other than those two nothing too out of the ordinary. My bullpen has forgotten how to pitch so thats fun but otherwise things are going well. I can tell we are starting to cool off now after our red hot start to the year. The A's arent a great team but they gave us a run for our money.

May looks to be a pretty easy month for us as the only series I am extremely worried about is vs Texas.

                        EDIT: Also some roster moves:

                        Kemp to AAA
Aplin to MLB (Although he just hit a cold streak, I dont want to stunt Kemps progression and he is riding the bench currently)

                        Fields to AAA
                        Devenski to MLB

Fields has just been terrible this season, 5.79 ERA, 1.18 WHIP. Maybe terrible isnt the word im looking for but just not reliable enough. I would rather give Devenski a shot because he has been tearing up AAA.

Is anyone having issues with auto baserunning in their franchises?? It's getting quite frustrating. I play every inning of every game and right now I have just lost 2 games against Baltimore due to this bug. I had a great rally going and hit a single which should have been an RBI with the bases loaded. However, it keeps switching to manual and then my guy on first doesn't run and therefore thrown out at 2nd.

Next game I am up 1 to 0 with man on 1 and 2. EE hits a double and it switches to manual. I notice as the guy is getting the ball in and I try to score the guy running to third manually and he dives back to third and I don't get anything out of it. I lose 2-1 with a 2 run homer after an easy error was made by Smoak.

Two games lost because of this now in a row and I'm getting frustrated with it. Feels like I am wasting my time playing when this stuff happens. Hope someone has a solution.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Just finished up May in my Miami Marlins franchise. We are sitting in first place in the East with a 38-14 record, the best in MLB. We have a 6.5 games lead on the Nats and a 8.5 game lead on the Mets. Our pitching staff through the first two months has been fantastic and has stayed relatively healthy. Only serious injuries I have had so far have been Yelich and Prado. Yelich should be back in about two weeks and Prado will likely be out until sometime in July.

                            Through the first two months:

                            Team Avg: .291(1st)
                            Runs: 259(2nd)
                            Home Runs: 76(1st)

                            Team ERA: 2.74(1st)
                            HR allowed: 33(1st)
                            Saves: 17(T-4th)

                            Team MVPs Through May:
Stanton: .347 Avg., 23 HR, 72 RBI, .757 slug. Leads in MVP voting
                            Fernandez: 10 starts, 8-0, 75.2 inn, 88 K, 0.87 WHIP, 1.55 ERA(2nd/Kershaw). Leads in Cy Young Voting.

                            Other notables:

                            Bour: .287 avg., 17 HR(3rd), 34 RBI(10th)
                            Gordon: .348 avg.(2nd), 33 R, 39 SB(1st)
                            Ozuna: .305 avg., 13 HR(t-7th), 32 RBI

                            Backup players:
                            Ichiro: .310 Avg(needs 25 hits for 3000)
                            Dietrich: .289 avg., 8 HR, 21 RBI

                            Liriano- 4-2, 71.2 inn., 71 K, 1.07 WHIP, 2.51 ERA(had a complete game shutout with 11 K and followed it up with 8 scoreless and a season high 14 K in his next start)
Adam Conley: 5-4, 71.2 inn., 42 K, 1.10 WHIP, 1.88 ERA(3rd). Guy has been unbelievable. He's the #4 starter in the rotation, doesn't get much run support though.

Dunn- 18 games, 1-0, 17.1 inn., 24 K, 0.98 WHIP, 8 holds, 0.52 ERA. Guy is solid as hell out of the pen.

                            Ramos- 20 Games, 2-0, 21.1 inn., 27 K, 0.89 WHIP, 7 holds, 1.69 ERA.

                            Capps- 24 Games, 0-1, 24.0 inn., 36 K, 1.08 WHIP, 14/16 SV, 3.00 ERA.

Well...the American League won the All-Star game with a 3-2 victory over the National League. Blake Swihart hit a solo shot in the Top of the 9th to put the AL up 3-2.

Earlier, Giancarlo Stanton hit a two run bomb off of Felix Hernandez to give the NL an early 2-0 lead in the 1st. Later in the 5th, Zach Grienke struggled and allowed 2 runs to the AL to tie the game at 2-2.

Next up is the AAA all-star game in which Carson Kelly will be the starting catcher for the PCL.

After that is on to the 2nd half of the season and trying to maintain our 6 game lead in the division over rival Cubs.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

2017 Rockies End of April Report

Well the 2017 season started off HORRIBLY for the Rockies, to say the least. We lost our first 6 games to begin 0-6, but from that point forward, we finished the month on a 15-5 run to end April with a 15-11 record. That is good enough to be 2.5 games out of the division lead (Dodgers lead right now). It also puts us at a 0.5 game out of the Wild Card spots. Here is how the month looked for us:

                                Spoiler

You can't see April 30 on there. The Dodgers beat us to finish the month off.

Here are the player stats for the month of April:

                                Spoiler

It turned out to be a pretty good offensive month for the team. Trevor Story leading the team in AVG is pretty surprising. I need to try to find a way to get him into some more games, but it's tough when the guys ahead of him at the positions he can play are Jose Reyes (batting .287 with 6 HRs and 18 RBIs) and Nolan Arenado (.301, 11 HRs, 23 RBIs).

Arenado is currently leading the Majors in HRs, with 11 total. Jon Gray is currently 10th in the majors in ERA at 1.80, and Jake McGee is 3rd in the NL with 8 saves. Our bullpen, once again, has been a real strength. The only one really struggling is Jairo Diaz with a 5.79 ERA.

I sent Jorge De La Rosa down to triple-A, there just wasn't room for him. Jeff Hoffman was destroying AAA, and De La Rosa was struggling, so I had to bring Hoffman up. It turned out to be a good move as he currently has the 2nd best ERA in the rotation.

Chad Bettis spent some time in the rotation (2 starts), but after struggling quite a bit (didn't even make it 2 innings in one of his starts) I moved him to the bullpen. He's been excellent since then. At one point, German Marquez had to go out in the middle of the 5th inning, Bettis came in and shut the door for 3 innings.

I decided to make a little highlight film of the month. Here it is:

                                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4PBhNFUVJ1Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

As far as what we need to do going forward.... Sonny Gray needs to get it together. He's very inconsistent right now. He was great two starts ago (7 innnings, 1 ER, 10 K's). Then he goes out against the Dodgers his next start and allows 5 runs. It's baffling.

Also, Charlie Blackmon is dangerously close to getting DFA'd. To say he has been awful would be an understatement. He can't hit the broad side of a barn. And he's even struggling on defense. Tapia is about to take all of his AB's, and I'm about to bring Mike Tauchman up, who is annihilating AAA.

Lastly, the catcher position. I knew it was going to be a struggle there this season, but it's really been ridiculous. I swear, it's always Murphy behind the plate when the pitchers struggle, like he has no clue how to call pitches. Suzuki has been solid back there, but his AVG leaves a lot to be desired. I'll keep them there for now until I find a better option, though.

EDIT: Also, the Ben Paulsen experiment at 1B ended pretty dang quickly. In his first 10 games, he only had 1 hit (the HR you see in the highlight video). He was awful. Ryan Casteel was tearing up AAA, but as soon as I was planning on bringing him up, he broke his forearm... so he went on the 60 day DL. That's when I went out and got Eduardo Escobar off of free agency. He's an excellent utility guy. He has the capability to play 1B when I need it. He also is the backup for LeMaheiu since I don't have another person that can play 2nd base.
