Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Exiting the all star break in my Yankess franchise. Actually played the all star game quite a little while back but I've been taking a break from my franchise recently but I think I'm ready to jump back into it now. Actually one game past the break but I forgot to update right after the all star game

The National League defeated the American League 5-0 to secure home field advantage in the 2016 World Series. David Peralta was MVP.

We made one trade over the all star break. We acquired 34 year old LF Ryan Raburn from the Rockies for RF Cesar Puello and SS Wilkerman Garcia. Found that deal in the trade finder but it was Raburn for Puello straight up but I threw in Garcia as kind of a lottery ticket kind of add on player. Puello is still only 25 and is a threat on the bases and is pretty decent with the bat. He's B potential and he's young enough to the point where's theirs still room for him too grow a bit. Garcia is a raw young player at 18 with already decent defense and some decent speed. Raburn is a expiring contract and with him being 34 and the Rockies not contending this year at least they got a bit out him. Raburn will be a very nice bat against lefty's and a pretty good bat against righties.

He will be replacing Ackley on the bench and MLB roster. Hated putting Ackley in the lineup all year. Felt like I was putting an out in the lineup. Finally replaced him. Ackley will be in AAA for now.

Also did the Pomeranz and Espinoza swap between Boston and SD in my franchise like in real life. Any real life trades that happen that make sense in my franchise I will likely do on the date they really happened if the players involved have not been traded away by the CPU already.

      <table><td bgcolor=#004684>End of April (+ off season and ST) - 2020</td></table>

      Off season & ST
      Spoiler

      Roster and Prospects
      Spoiler

Things started well but turned to **** really fast. We won our first 3 games of the season before losing 5 straight and 8 of 9 overall putting us at 4-8. Have bounced back a bit though We swept the Twins in Minnesota. Lost 2 of 3 to Detroit and split a 4 games series with the Mariners. 10-12 entering May. Tied with the White Sox for 2nd and 3.5 games behind the Tigers for 1st. 5.5 games out of a WC spot.

Offense has been very AVG so far. We are 18th in AVG at .257. 17th in OBP at .326 and 13th in SLG at .424. Alex Gordon and Jackson Yates have been our best players so far. Gordon is hitting ..338/.420/.597 with 4 HR and 10 RBI. Yates is hitting .292/.358/.639 with 7 HR and 13 RBI. Lorenzo Cain broke his shin on April 23rd. He will miss 6-8 weeks. He was hitting .283/.368/.433 with a HR.Gore, Starling and Bonifacio have played well splitting time between CF and RF in Cains absence. Jorge is hitting .294/.345/.490 with 2 HR, Bubba is hitting .255/.345/.529 with 4 HR and Gore is hitting .375/.474/.625 with a HR and 5 SB in 16 at bats. Perez and Prado have really struggled so far. Perez is hitting just .218/.299/.287 with no HR. Prado is even worse at .174/.224/.217 with no HR. Whit Merrifield replaced Cain on the roster.

Pitching has been below AVG as well despite our 4 & 5 starters playing great and Davis, Herrera and Huff have yet to tallow a run. Much like Prado our FA signing of Wacha has nto worked out very well so far. He is 1-3 with a 5.27 ERA in 27.1 IP. He was fantastic in his first start. Went 8 innings with 6 hits, 7 Ks and no runs in the season opener against the Nationals. 16 runs in 19.1 IP since. Mike Minor isnt to far behind him. 1-3 with a 4.40 ERA in 28.2 IP. Kyle Zimmer or Yordano Ventura have been our best starters so far. Zimmer is 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA in 25 IP. Ventura is 1-2 with a 3.33 EA in 27 IP with a 0.89 WHIP. As i said earlier Wade Davis, Kelvin Herrera and David Huff have combined for 23.2 IP 20K's and no runs. Add in Houston Street who we signed on April 20th and that becomes 29.1 IP with no runs. Joakim Soria has given up 7 ER in 5.2 IP, Duffy and Gee have each given up 6 ER in 8.2 IP. and Kris Medlen has allowed 4 ER in 7.1 IP. Houston Street replaced Matt Strahm who gave up 6 ER in just 4.1 IP. We really need Wacha and Minor to star playing better. We have 4 guys in the pen playing great so the issues we have there can be dealt with.

Down in AAA. Nolan Watson is off to a good start. 0-1 with a 2.42 ERA in 26 IP. He will get the call up if someone gets hurt. Aroni Nina has a 0.96 EAR in 9.1 IP Luke Farrell is 1-0 with a 1.56 ERA in 17.1 IP. Escobar is the only guy hitting in AAA. .304/.345/.430 with 2 HR. With Cuthbert Struggling Escobar could be on his way back up.

We have quite a few guys hitting well in AA at the moment. Marten Gasparini at .352/.395/.423. Chase Vallot at .340/.446/.574 with 3 HR. Elier Hernandez hitting .295/.403/.590 with 4 HR. Jason Orloski our 2nd roundpick in last years draft is hitting .404/.466/.519 in 52 AB.

On the pitching side Tom Hoyt is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA in 26.2 IP. In the pen Pedro Fernandez has a 1.86 ERA in 9.2 IP, Foster Griffin has a 1.35 ERA in 6.2 IP. Sam Selman has a 1.29 ERA in 7 IP and Jerold Kurtz has a 0.79 ERA in 11.1 IP.

Overall things could be a lot worse. Only 3.5 games out. 16 of our 28 games in May are on the road. 9 division games and our first shot at Houston after the playoff loss.

Cardinals 7 game winning streak is snapped by Atlanta Braves in 4-3 loss. We still maintain a 6 game lead in the Central over the Cubs.

Found out that we will be without Jaime Garcia until the end of September due to torn finger ligament. We are also without Wainwright until around Labor Day. Thankfully both Tim Cooney and Lance Lynn are pitching extremely well in place of Garcia and Wainwright.

Next up is a 3 game series at home vs the Reds before we hit the road against the Cubs in a huge divisional battle.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Ladies and Gentleman, your 2016 World Series champions.......THE BOSTON RED SOX! After finishing 108-54 (2nd best record in MLB) David Price took home MVP and Cy Young honors, and Pedroia won a gold glove. I swept my way through the playoffs, but could have easily been knocked out every round. Late comebacks in games 2 and 3 in the world series. Both with grand slams in the 8th inning down by 2 (Shaw and Swihart), after only hitting 1 all season, in the 3rd game. My plan is to now take this franchise and sim 5-7 years into the future and start over. I played every single inning in the full season, and let's see how far I can get before NHL/NBA come out.

Ouch. After an off day the Phillies hit the road for 3 against the Nationals and 2 against the Blue Jays.

In injury news, catcher Carlos Ruiz has been activated from the 15-day DL and catcher J.P. Arencibia has been optioned to Triple-A.

In transaction news the Phillies have claimed outfielder Joey Butler off waivers from the Indians and placed him in Triple-A for depth. LHP Elvis Araujo has been optioned to Triple-A. He has a 3.67 ERA on the season but has been so inconsistent. Recently acquired T.J. McFarland has been recalled from Triple-A. He had a 1.80 ERA in 20 innings of work.

An update on my 2016 Phillies. Since my last post, the Phillies have played 11 games and gone 6-5 in that stretch. Overall the Phillies are still in 1st place in the NL East with a record of 44-27. They have a 7 game lead over the 2nd place Nationals.

The Phillies took 2 of 3 from the Nationals on the road and then split the 4 game series with the Blue Jays. Both Phillies wins in that Blue Jays series were shutout victories. Game 1 of the series saw Jerad Eickhoff pitch a complete game 2-hit shutout with 1 walk and 11 strikeouts. Game 3 of the series saw Aaron Nola pitch a complete game 5-hit shutout with no walks and 6 strikeouts. Masterful pitching performances.

Right before the start of the 4 game series at home against the Diamondbacks, the Phillies optioned outfielder David Lough to Triple-A and recalled outfielder Tyler Goeddel. The Phillies split the 4 game series with the Diamondbacks. Diamondbacks third baseman Jake Lamb killed me in the 4 game series going a combined 7-16 with 1 double, 1 home run, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Top prospect J.P. Crawford has been performing very well since his call up to The Show. In 58 at-bats Crawford is hitting .328 with 3 doubles, 3 home runs and 9 RBI. He has also walked 9 times and stolen 3 bases. His OPS is .955.

It may be time very soon to call up another top prospect in outfielder Nick Williams. With the exception of Odubel Herrera, the Phillies outfield has been struggling. Peter Bourjos would most likely be the first man to go whether through trade or DFA. He is only hitting .158 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI in 114 at-bats. Jimmy Paredes is another option to go as well. He is only hitting .206 with 6 home runs and 14 RBI in 199 at-bats. Nick Williams isn't tearing it up at Triple-A but the more youth infusion the better. He is hitting .257 with 7 home runs and 22 RBI in 230 at-bats.

The catching situation has been a disappointment as well. Cameron Rupp is struggling at the plate hitting .235 with 3 home runs and 16 RBI in 166 at-bats. Carlos Ruiz hasn't been much better hitting .222 with no home runs and 5 RBI in 54 at-bats. However, he spent some time on the disabled list recently. As the trade deadline approaches, I may be looking to acquire a catcher if Rupp doesn't start picking it up. Prospect Andrew Knapp could also be an option to be called up as well. Currently in Triple-A he is hitting .304 with 7 home runs and 28 RBI in 191 at-bats. I am looking to trade Ruiz whenever possible.

If Darin Ruf wasn't performing so well, I would consider bringing up Tommy Joseph from Triple-A. Ruf has absolutely crushed lefties this season with a .389 average. Overall, Ruf is hitting .268 with 11 home runs and 21 RBI in 112 at-bats.

I can't wait to get Maikel Franco back from the 60-day DL at the end of July.

The Phillies now hit the road for 9 games against the Twins, Giants and Diamondbacks. Will have another update after the road trip.

Are you guys getting many trade offers? I am in July and haven't received one offer. I have the trade slider set at 9 now for the month of July before the deadline and it was sitting at 7 before that.

                            2019 San Diego Padres Update

Not too much to note from the 2018 off season. I decided to sim a good bit due to the team just not having the capability of competing. So three seasons in and we're finally starting to see some of the young guys progress in the system. The Toronto Blue Jays ended the Cubs 2-year MLB WS reign as they defeated the Pirates in six games to win the World Series. They have a really solid program and in the off season they added Jose Fernandez with a $200M deal. They signed him after Jose Donaldson bolted to New York (Yankees) for a $200M deal of his own.

Padres off season was boring. We had some money but nobody was interested in our offers. I didn't want to spend on D.J. LeMahieu and I couldn't put down a big contract on a star like Donaldson. I thought about trying to entice Fernandez to San Diego...but wanted to not overspend for a SP. After he signed with Toronto I regretted not at least putting my hat in the ring. Anyways I did snag Rick Porcello on a discount deal as he didn't have too much interest. A 30-year old with 116 career wins at $18M for 3 years sounded good and he is slotted as the #3 in our rotation. We did lose SP Drew Pomeranz (MIN) and C Derek Norris (NYY) to free agency. Pomeranz just wasn't panning out and Norris was coming off a down season. We also opted to cut RF Matt Kemp and just eat his bloated salary. Our young guys were ready and Kemp wasn't getting any value on the market and he posted a team worst -3 WAR in '18.

The 2019 season will be yet another uphill battle, but I think this organization is getting closer.

                            GM J.K. Stewart Report

Well a 12-8 start to the season is about as good as we could imagine, especially after starting off the season 4-7. To win 7 of 8 games against PIT/SF/CHC to end the month shows how promising our roster is. We're extremely excited fo rBert Drese and his future. He was an integral part to that 8-1 finish in April and might find himself bumped up in the lineup soon. As a team we need to just get on base a little more. Right now we just need to ride the hot streak as long as we can.

I play every game without quick counts. Presentation has been chopped so much between pitches that games don't take as long as they used to.

A big thing for me is I would hope it would help me draw more walks/strikeouts because both of those numbers are low for me. But that is a flaw in my own gameplay im not patient enough.
