Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We took 2 out 3 against the Brewers but lost the series finale as Carlos Martinez threw in a clunker. He last 1 1/3 innings giving up 7 runs and walking 6. We battled but couldn't get over the hump. We actually made it interesting before our bullpen blew up.

We've lost the first two against the Reds as our bullpen continues to struggle. Lynn pitched into the 8th before giving up a game typing 2 run homerun. Our bullpen went on to lose the game in the bottom of the 9th as Farqhuar threw two pitches and lost the game.

Our losing streak is currently at 3 but thankfully the Pirates are in Houston and haven't gained much ground. Our division lead is still 5 games.

We will look to avoid the sweep in Cincinnati as Wacha hits the mound.

We avoided the sweep in Cincinnati with a 3-1 win in 15 innings. Michael Wacha was dominant for the 8 innings he pitched, though he did allowing the tying run to score after getting squeezed on back to back hitters allowing walks with 2 outs. Our bullpen, primarily Tyler Lyons, was dominant for the 7 innings of relief they worked. In the top of the 15th, Carpenter erased a dreadful 0 for 5 day with the game winning 2 run homer. Rosenthal then stuck out Votto, Merasco, and Bruce to end the game.

Next up is a 3 game series in Milwaukee.

Swept the Brewers to extend our winning streak to 4 games and increase our lead to 6 games over the Pirates and 8 games over the Cubs.

Next up is a 3 game series against the Cubs in Wrigley. A sweep here could put the Cubs out of reach.

Our 6 game winning streak came to a halt as we were unable to sweep the Cubs, losing the series finale 5-1. Once again, MadBum was ineffective, as he is now 7-10 on the season with a plus 4 ERA. Needless to say, MadBum will not be on this team come next season. $30M wasted.

Next is a 10 game homestand where we host the Phillies for 4, the Diamondbacks for 4, and the A's for 2.

Well we have shocked the baseball world, as we just placed Madison Bumgarner on trade waivers. Where it goes from here I'm not 100% sure, but one thing I am sure of, is that he was brought here to get us to the World Series and quite honestly he's not getting the job done.

MadBum has 25 starts this year. Only 11 quality starts, he's given up 21 homeruns which is already 8 more than he gave up last year and he's faced 300 fewer batters. He's only winning 38% of his starts, whereas our other starters are all 60% or above. A 4.46 ERA and a 7-12 record to go along with a 1.47 WHIP, means that we need to go a different direction. I wasn't comfortable about giving him $30M per year, but I really thought along with our other pitchers, he'd help get us past the NLCS. Well, he's been the least effective starter we've had all year and that includes stints by Tim Cooney and Marco Gonzales.

I've waited and waited for him to find his form and become a dominant pitcher that he had been in the past, but it hasn't happened, and I'm done waiting. I feel more comfortable with Wacha, Martinez, Lynn, and Leake in the postseason than I do MadBum. Hell, I feel more comfortable with Cooney or Gonzales in October than I do MadBum.

So we will see if he clears trade waivers. If he does, we will most likely look to make a deal. If he doesn't, I'm not quite sure what route we will go. But I'm 95% sure that MadBum's time is St.Louis has come to an end.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We just lost 3 out of 4 to the Diamondbacks at home. Tough games to lose, as twice Trevor Rosenthal blew the save in the 9th. We are still up 4 1/2 games on the Pirates as the month of August is about to come to a close.

Lance Lynn is on the 15 Day DL with an elbow injury, but we should get him back right around the start of September.

MadBum cleared trade waivers, so now we have a decision to make. Do we look to trade him to someone who has the budget to sign him (Padres about the only team) or do we hang on to him and play out the season, and then decline his team option at the end of the year? I said I'm 95% convince his time is over in St.Louis, and I still feel that way, but am not sure what route I want to take. He's scheduled to start in 2 days and will probably make that start due to how the rotations are working out.

We swept a mini 2 game series with the A's. Our lead in the division continues to be 4 1/2 games.

MadBum pitched great after clearing trade waivers. Bumgarner went 7 scoreless innings and struck out 14 while walking 1 and allowing 3 hits. He was pulled simply because of high pitch count (118 pitches after 7)

His outing only furthers clouds my decision making as to what to do with him.

Next up is a 3 game series in San Diego.

We took 2 out of 3 against the Padres in Petco Park. Opened up with a 12-2 win, then lost game 2 6-3, then followed it up winning a pitchers duel 2-1.

Matt Carpenter is in a major slump as he is just 2 for his last 25.

Next up is 3 in Texas against the Rangers. Game 1 matchup is Michael Wacha vs Stephen Strasburg.

We lost 2 out of 3 to the Rangers in Arlington. Our division lead is just 2 1/2 over the Pirates.

Next up is 3 at home vs the Brewers. We have 6 games left with the 2nd place Pirates (3 Home/3 Road). Unless something strange happens over the next 4 weeks, its just a 2 team race as the Cubs have fallen to 11 games out. Also it appears the wildcard is pretty much set as the Giants and Pirates lead by over 7 games to the next team in line, the Diamondbacks.

We swept the Brewers and then avoided being swept by the Marlins, by winning the series finale 3-2. Paul DeJong hit a big 2 run homerun that turned out to be the game winner.

Thanks to the Dodgers and the Cubs beating up on the Pirates we have extended our divisional lead to 5 games.

Next up is a 4 game series with the Reds in Cincinnati.

                          Our remaining schedule:

                          4 @ Reds
                          3 vs Cubs
                          3 vs Reds
                          3 @ Pirates
                          3 @ Cubs
                          4 @ Brewers
                          3 vs Pirates

The quest continues for our 3rd straight NL Central Divisional crown!

Our September woes continue, as we were just swept in a 4 game series against the Reds. We couldn't hit our way out of a wet paper bag. Now our lead is just 2 1/2 over the Pirates.

Next up is 3 at home against the Cubs.

Hopefully we can turn things around as we are just 3-6 so far in September.

We have now lost 6 straight as we were swept by the Cubs. Our divisional lead is down to a game and a half over the Pirates.

It's like we simply don't care to win. Nobody will drive in a run and if the starter pitches well then the bullpen comes in and blows it all up.

                                Frustrating.

Next up is 3 vs the Reds. Surely we can get a win soon.
