We remain tied with the Pirates for the Central division crown and the Cubs are 2 1/2 back of both of us for the 2nd wildcard. With their win, the Giants have secured the first wildcard spot.

Next up is series finale with the Brewers. We have Lance Lynn on the mound. Not sure who they have.

Keep it up! looking forward to your next update.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

It took 15 innings, but we beat the Brewers 2-1 thanks to a Randal Grichuk solo homerun in the Top of the 15th. Rosenthal came in the bottom half and retired the side 1, 2, 3.

We had multiple chances to win as we had lead off doubles in back to back innings and had a one out double in the very next inning, but could never get the run across. Outside of Siegrist giving up a flare base hit to Thames to tie the game in the 8th, our bullpen was phenomenal.

The Cubs were off so they fall to 3 games behind us and the Pirates for the 2nd wildcard spot. So their only hope is that the Pirates sweep us and we sweep the Pirates and the Cubs sweep the Giants.

As for the Pirates they beat the Reds so we are tied atop the Central Division as we start a 3 game series vs each other. Winner of the series wins the Central Division. Loser will most likely get the 2nd wildcard spot.

        Pitching matchups:

        Mike Leake vs Jameson Taillon
        Michael Wacha vs Gerrit Cole
        Madison Bumgarner vs Tyler Glasnow

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Too many mistakes cost us Game 1 vs the Pirates as we fall 5-4. We were down 3-0 early partly thanks to Grichuk's dropped fly ball in 1st and Carson Kelly's 2 passed balls, Couple that with our offense managing only 4 hits and 11 strikeouts and its not hard to see why we lost.

We were down 3-0 when Carpenter blasted a 2 run homerun to center in the 4th making it 3-2. One inning later Carson Kelly hits a solo shot to tie the game at 3-3. In the 7th, Carson Kelly has 2 consecutive passed balls which allows Josh Bell to get on first then advance to 2nd. A bunt and sac fly later and we are trailing 4-3. In the bottom of the 7th, Paul DeJong got out of his slump with a solo shot tying the game at 4. In the 9th Tuviialla walks a hitter and then gives up a line drive off the shin that puts two on. Rosenthal comes in and Perez lines a shot off the wall to make it 5-4. In the bottom half, Grichuk hit a lazy fly ball, Holliday struck out (his 3rd of the day) and DeJong hit a line drive right at the third baseman.

Only silver lining is that the Cubs lost so we are in the playoffs as at least a wildcard, but we want that 3rd divisional crown. It will take winning these next two games to do so. If not, then we are off to San Francisco for a wildcard game vs the Giants.

Michael Wacha vs Gerrit Cole coming up.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

10 innings, we fought, but we couldn't overcome our inability to get a key hit with runners on base as we fall to the Pirates 3-2. Down 1-0 we tied it in the 7th with a solo homerun by Kolten Wong. Down 2-1 in the 9th, we get a game tying 2 run homerun from Patrick Wisdom to make it 2-2. After Chris Jacobs singled and Piscotty walked, Matt Carpenter had 2 on with 2 out and struck out looking to end the threat.

In the 10th, Farqhuar gave up back to back doubles to Marte and Nunez that proved to be the game winning run.

So frustrating to falter this late in the season (8-19 in the month of September) and watch your chance for a 3rd straight divisional crown go down the tubes. Even worse to watch a team celebrate winning the division in your home ballpark.

Next up the season finale. MadBum won't start this game as we will turn to the bench players to get us through and evaluate. MadBum will most likely start the wildcard game in San Francisco. How fitting.

Rough way to end the season, sorry, But its been great following along. Moving to off season, or holding fast for '18?

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We are not to the off-season just yet, as we have the wildcard game against the Giants. So we have a chance to still make this a special season.

But when I get to the off-season, I'll go through it on '16 but won't advance to new season. Then I'm going to upload to '17 and add in all the missing players (Jose Fernandez, Yordano Ventura, Tim Cooney, Marco Gonzales, amongst others). I'll also try to work on some CAP's since the create a player in '17 is better than '16. After that, I'll advance to the new season in '17 to get to Spring Training and then I'll hold steady and wait for '18 and I'll carryover from '17 to '18 and then start the new season.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The season has come to an end with a fitting 9-2 loss to the Pirates. We closed the month of September with an 8-20 record. Pathetic. We played role players/young guys in this game so it was good to see them playing against mostly everyday players of the Pirates.

We will prepare now to take on the Giants in the wildcard game. Madison Bumgarner will get the start against 20 game winner Johnny Cueto.

                  The playoff schedule:

                  AMERICAN LEAGUE

                  Wildcard Game

                  Twins @ Orioles

                  Divisional Round

                  Astros @ Indians
                  Twins/Orioles @ Blue Jays

                  NATIONAL LEAGUE

                  Wildcard Game

                  Cardinals @ Giants

                  Divisional Round

                  Mets @ Pirates
                  Cardinals/Giants @ Dodgers

Matt Carpenter won a gold glove and was the Silver Slugger winner for 3rd Base. Clayton Kershaw won the NL MVP and Chris Davis won the AL MVP.

Kershaw also won the Cy Young while Danny Salazar won the AL Cy Young.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

And with that, our season is over. A walkoff homerun in the 9th by Hunter Pence sends the Giants to the NLDS and us back home.

After jumping to a 1-0 lead in the Top of the 4th, the Giants tied it at 1-1 in the bottom half. After the Giants went up 2-1 after the 5th, we tied it in the Top of the 6th at 2, only to have the Giants take the lead in the bottom of the 6th, 3-2. We scored 3 in the Top of the 8th to go up 5-3, only to watch our bullpen squander it away and allow 2 to tie the game at 5-5. And then in the bottom half of the 9th, Rosenthal leaves a fastball out over the plate and Hunter Pence uses the short porch in right for the walk off homerun.

So frustrating. We came into September feeling good about winning our 3rd straight divisional crown, only to finish 8-20 in the month and end up in the wildcard game. And then we watched our 3 best bullpen arms, Jordan Walden, Kevin Siegrist, and Trevor Rosenthal blow it.

I think addressing our bullpen, especially the backend (Siegrist and Walden) needs to be a focus in the offseason.

I can't believe the season is over. When we went up 5-3 in the 8th, I really thought we could close this thing out, but once again our shaky bullpen reared its ugly head. I guess its only fitting that with the way we finished the regular season and blowing the divisional lead late, that we lose the wildcard game in the closing moments.

Time to take a breath and evaluate the roster and what we need to do to get over the hump. 2 straight losses in the NLCS now followed by a season that just imploded as we lost the wildcard game.

                    Damn....

I took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the 9th in game 7 of the World Series and lost. The Giants tied the game and won on a walkoff HR by Pence in the 12th inning. That was in MLB 15 and it STILL bothers me that I lost that World Series.

I know how much it sucks ending a season that way. Better luck next time!
