Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
If you guys don't think Christian Yelich is good.... tf, this thread.
Sorry WTNY I haven't had any caffeine and am not in a state of separating this into multi quotes so everything in bold
I can go with good or very good or really good as adjectives to describe his play. And, yes, the word superstar means a lot when you're talking about trade value. When someone brings that word up, it's perfectly reasonable to remind everyone what a superstar really is. And Andrew Benintendi, it is not. He'll be more Kole Calhoun than Mike Trout.
Again not going to debate semantics or terminology. I'd like to point out that Calhoun is on pace for his third straight 3+ WAR season and Benintendi's defense is probably better if you put him in a corner. Heyward might be a better comp along those lines, similar bat but J's a center fielder in a corner spot which tendi might end up as. Calhoun's a great player, though, nearly 4 WAR two years in a row and if his defensive metrics pick up he might hit it this year. Personally I'd put him more along the lines of a Hunter Pence. Not a fantastic comp defensively but as a bat, I think that aligns well.
You say a year, I say a few months. 21 years and 11 months vs 22 years and 4 months is not a huge deal. Not enough to overcome the massive statistical edge Schwarber and Conforto had at that level over Benintendi. 30-60 points of wRC+. The only thing that puts Benintendi on the same planet as Schwarber is that Benintendi can be a solid defensive player. Schwarber's bat all day, every day.
Yeah obviously? Schwarber's one of the best hitters in the league. But the fact they can be compared lends well to him.
Benintendi's BABIP being down probably means it was too high to begin with. I don't think there's any reason to suspect a guy with modest power and above average speed to sustain a .350+ BABIP like it was before in A ball.
Minor league BABIP is different than majors. I don't think anyone cared about Bryant's .400 BABIP or Schwarber's .350 BABIP in the minors. Good minor hitters just tend to have higher BABIPs, there's not a ton of regression to a general mean there. It's more a personal mean, and you'd peg Benintendi at .340ish at least for the minors. I mean, he projects for .318 in the majors from steamer. .350 isn't unreasonable for AA at all.
No doubt it's very good, but I don't think there's an exhaustive list going back several years unless you've saved the spreadsheets each season. His 109 wRC+ is propped up by a lot of good hitting in A ball. Remember the projections are only a tool, not a prediction of what's going to occur. Let's not stretch the projections that far. If he comes up this year, I wouldn't be surprised at a 109 wRC+, but again my issue was granting him superstar status. A very important distinction for his value. Big difference between 60 FV (what I see) and 70 FV/75 FV (?) what you guys see.
There's no "propped up by hitting in A ball", that's weighed as it should be considering what data has to say about the importance of the topic.
Ranking him best prospect in baseball (which no prospect source has done...nor even in the Top 10 yet) is more a testament to all the graduations than it is him as the second coming of some superstar. That Top 3 (Benintendi/Bregman/De Leon) is not as good as we've seen in recent years, imo. I'd take Bryant/Buxton/Giolito easily over that trio. And whatever it was the year before as well. And the year before...
Obviously you can't argue with Bryant but I'd take him over Buxton and Giolito considering I'm low on both. Well, slightly low on Gio and high on Benintendi. It's a tough call for me. But I'd take Bregman, De Leon and Tendi over Buxton and Breg/Tendi over Giolito I think.
Bottom line: nobody knows

Dont discount what ozuna has been doing this year, he may be behind in the field but his bat is over yelich's all day. That is the way he is playing this year. I never said he was not a good player, just said he wasnt a star.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Yea I went and look at the stats after I had posted that. And I could see an argument for Ozuna.

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
I'll give you guys something fresh to chew on.. With some talk of the Angels needing to unload Trout eventually if they want to have any chance at being relevant again, and with the Phillies being his favorite team growing up, I have been toying with the idea of trying to acquire him. I'll be totally up front in saying that there are guys that I really do not want to move in this deal (J.P. Crawford, N.Williams) but I feel like I can still offer a package with a lot of value.
I'm in year two of my franchise. I acquired Profar from Texas for Cozens and Eflin in the offseason. i think he would slot in nicely at second for the Angels. My initial offer was shaping up to be something like this:
Nola 91 OVR A
Profar 71 OVR B
R. Quinn 75 OVR B
J. Thompson 73 OVR B
as well as one or two of
M. Appel 69 OVR B
R. Hoskins 64 OVR B
K. Gowdy 66 OVR B (2016 Draft Pick)
I realize I am still short on what it will take to get him. Although Quinn, Thompson, Profar, Appel and Nola are all playing at the MLB level, I'm thinking this deal might still be too short on proven talent as aside from Nola, who is pitching out of his mind, no one else on this list is all that dominant yet.
My question is, is there any way to get him without including Crawford or Williams? Alfaro?Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
I should add that I bumped Cozens up to reflect his output this year. He and Eflin were both B's when traded. Cozens was murdering AAA pitching with .275 BA and 20HRs, and Eflin was more than holding his own in MLB with an ERA in the mid 2's.Comment

Okay guys.
I've looked around and I would like to try and get Steve Pearce from the Rays and Pedro Alvarez from the Orioles. Neither of these teams are in playoff push mode.
What would be a reasonable offer to get these guys. I'm the Braves.Atlanta Braves | New Orleans Saints | Alabama Crimson Tide | Tampa Bay Lightning | New Orleans PelicansComment

No you have to include Crawford in most deals for a stud. And definitely in any deals for Trout, Harper, Kershaw tier.

Trout is a superstar, perennial MVP candidate, and the best player in baseball (at worst 3rd best). You cannot just give up a bunch of second tier prospects to acquire him. A trade for him will have to hurt...a lotChicago Cubs

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Not even close! There is no conceivable way of the Phillies getting Trout. I'm sorry. Their farm system is way better than it was a couple of years ago, but it's just not happening.
You could trade your entire minor league system and still not give fair value for Trout. You could even add an ownership stake for Arte Moreno in the Phillies and that still probably isn't enough.
With Trout, we're talking prime Mickey Mantle. You don't just cobble a package together for guys like that. And trying to do it with "untouchables" you won't trade? C'mon son...Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
All right guys its Mike here again and we are still rolling along with the Twins. I now sit at 30-19 and about to start the month of June. The trade deadline is vastly approaching and I am gearing up for a possible playoff run as long as my team keep playing the way they are. I have been posting some trade thoughts on this page throughout the season and I have been taking notes but I am looking at the weaknesses of my team if I am so grateful enough to have a playoff run with the Twinkies. Studying my team and looking at what I need, my two biggest weaknesses seem to be Catching and a Lefty starting pitcher. Like I stated before I sit at 30-19 and I am 4.5 games ahead of the second place Indians. Now like I stated before my two biggest needs are catcher and Starting pitching (Preferably a lefty).
Right now my catching options on my club are:
Kurt Suzuki AVG. 143 R 2 HR 0 RBO 2 WAR-0.10
John Ryan Murphy AVG. 183 R 2 HR 0 RBI 4 WAR -0.59
Granted I have also started Mauer at catcher a few times to see if he still had it and he is at:
Joe Mauer AVG. 283 R 31 HR 8 RBI 27 WAR 1.13
I made a hot list of catchers I am eyeing and here we go!
1. Jonathan Lucroy AVG .205 R 14 HR 4 RBI 16 WAR 0.22
The Brewers sit at 15-35 and tied for last in the NL Central. Lucroy is off to a very slow start for a very bad team. Lucroy as a player is the full package though and I know it would take some High valued prospects to get. We still have another month and a half to see if he heats it up or not. The downfall is he is a rental which is something I dread but he is a push offensively and defensively I need.
2. Devin Mesoraco
The Reds also have a record of 15-35 and are the team tied with the Brew Crew for last place in the NL Cebtral. Mesoraco is an odd case right now because he got hurt in spring training and he is still out for another month. So he will be back literally right before the deadline in July. So it is very hard to work his in game value as he has been hurt all season. I have always been a Mesoraco fan in real life and I am willing to give whatever I need to acquire him. But like I said, It is very hard to work his in game value since he has been hurt all season. He brings more value than Lucroy in my opinion because he is under contract 2 more years after 2016.
3. Nick Hundley AVG .283 R 16 HR 1 RBI 10 WAR 1.00
The Rockies sit at the bottom of the NL West with a record of 17-32. I have always been A big supporter of home and away splits with the Rockies and the thin air as Home numbers usually seem to be inflated. Hundley so far would most likely be the cheapest of this list to acquire since he is name has no "Star" power but he is very solid defensively and as of right now, He is doing better than both catcher I have right now. He is also a rental and it would most likely take the least amount of prospects out of this list so far.
4. J.T. Realmuto AVG .213 R 16 HR 7 RBI 18 WAR 0.57
The Marlins are in the best shape out of all the other teams I mentioned so far as they are in third place in the NL East at 24-25 behind the second place Mets (26-22) and the first place Phillies (28-21)....Yes....the first place Phillies! This would be a solid get as Realmuto is under team control for four more years and he could develop with the rest of my young team. What it would take to get him to me is unknown but it would most likely take a top prospect and then a couple B type guys.
5. Andrew Susac AVG .272 R 2 HR 1 RBI 2 WAR 0.14
Thie is my last catcher I am interested in. The Giants are are in second place in the NL West at 30-21 so I doubt they would want to trade a piece like Susac. The reason I think I can still steal him away is because he is on the trade block and they have three catchers on the roster (Posey, Susac and brown). This is a last ditch effort type deal and I would much rather get one of the other four I named before this as offensively, Susac really doesn't help much.
So that is my top 5 hot list on catchers. If it was up to me, I would go hard for J.T. or Mesoraco. Let me know what you guys think on the list, what i may have to give up for each and I will keep everyone updated on their stats and WAR as the deadline vastly approaches. I will also post my top 5 starters I am aiming for later on. Again, Thanks for the input guys and keep checking out my Twins chise, you guys keep me going with it!Follow my Twins franchise http://www.operationsports.com/Tmizzle/dynasty/Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Id wait a little bit to start trading if you're only in early June.
But once you do get there, I feel like a package for Lucroy would be around Jay. I could be wrong, but the Twins don't really have that much else to offer that the Brewers would be interested in.
Spoiler
Edit: also....for some reason this bugged me...probably cause Im the son of an English teacher, but you used the word 'vastly' wrong twice. Vastly means 'of very great area or extent', and you used it to describe how the trade deadline was approaching....you would be better off using the word 'quickly'. Sorry for being a grammar naziLast edited by CBoller1331; 07-06-2016, 09:53 PM.Chicago Cubs

Steve Pearce would be the better acquisition since he can play the field as Alvarez is a 1B/3B but is horrible at both.
