Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Alright it's that time of the year (2018 late July) and my Padres are completely out of it (41-60, 23 GB)...4th worst record in the MLB.
Here are my pieces:
SP Tyson Ross (29 yrs old 85 OVR B POT) - he's a rental at $4M this year so he'll look to cash in during off season.
2018 stats: 9-8 3.74 ERA 1.34 WHIP 134.2 IP 148 K 45 BB - 2.28 WAR
He basically had the same exact type of numbers in 2017. He's a guy who could be a steady arm in the middle of the rotation.
RF Matt Kemp (32 yrs old 83 OVR B POT) - Not sure I can move his stupid contract (3+ years left @ $18.5M-$19.4M-$20.4M-$21.4M...FML)
He's having a very solid campaign hitting .269/.340/.487 with 16 HR 55 RBI 37 BB 19 2B 5 3B and a 1.70 WAR. His attributes haven't regressed much and there are actually a few +'s in there. I need that contract out of here yesterday. He's the biggest salary by $15M.
C Derek Norris (28 yrs old 78 OVR C POT) - He's a rental but shouldn't be too costly to re-sign
His ratings have gone up and he still has several good years left in front of him. He's hitting .288/.354/.442 with 12 HR and 42 RBI and 3.36 WAR.
_______________
Teams in the playoff hunt who need pieces:
Orioles (55-45, tied with NYY for AL East lead)
- SP is a HUGE need. Gausman is injured and their rotation is Tillman/Gallardo/Despaigne/Wright/Bundy. Ross would go all the way to #1 on their rotation.
- C is a need as well. Weiters is out for 2-3 weeks but Caleb Joseph is a decent replacement.
Yankees (55-45, see above)
- SP is a big need. Tanaka/Severino/Eovaldi/Medlen/Bryan Mitchell is the 1-5.
- OF is needing a 3rd guy. Gardner/Judge are there but Will Venable/Aaron Hicks aren't doing the job. Nobody to call up
Red Sox (54-47, 1.5 GB)
- C is a glaring hole in the offense. Vazquez is hitting .225/.271/.346 in 231 AB's with 4 HR. Swihart was listed as a LF and hitting well in 50 AB's so I moved him to C.
- OF is pretty bad. JBJ is hitting .206/.259/.280 after hitting .237/.300/.416 in '16. Benintendi just isn't ready. He'll be good to go in '19. Rusney Castillo is hitting .256 with 1 HR in 129 AB's.
Any of those seem like a good fit? Priority #1 would be shipping out Kemp if possible!SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Will keep that link handy, thanks!
Hmm...with those I probably could run something like "xFIP". I might have to do that and see, especially in my fresh MLB16 franchise since I have all the stats.
Would be hard with the stats tracking in my carryover. My ace is awesome, but he's walked more than 46 people in his 1282 innings
1. Double posting is apparently not appreciated at OS (idk). If you have another thing to add, you could go back and edit your last post, and if you're quoting more than one post, you can use the multiquote symbol (paper, apostrophe, + symbol) and then make a new post once you've selected them.
2. It'll be very helpful to use the search feature. Pomeranz, Teheran and Gray have all been discussed ad naseum and you'll find more info that way.
3. "Projections use the same weights which means they will never be accurate." I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. You mean the recency weighting? What exactly do you expect from projections? They're an average guesstimate that remove bias as much as possible to be not-wrong as possible."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
My thought is that the Yankees might not be getting enough, but I'm not entirely sure of Chapman's total value. Any thoughts would be well appreciated.
EDIT: I'm gonna add Zastrynzy to the deal to give the Yanks more talent. He currently is pitching at a 2.26 ERA over 111.2 IP at AA.Last edited by cubsgocontinental23; 07-14-2016, 01:08 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Have a load more trades in mind but these were the ones I was working on now:
SpoilerOAK sends to MIA
SP Rich Hill: 8-2/96 IP/3.66 ERA/1.45 WHIP/9.75 K9/4.97 BB9/3.93 FIP/1.46 WAR
1B Rangel Ravelo: .301/.366/.447/123 AB in AAA
MIA sends to OAK
SP Justin Nicolino: 7-4/105.2 IP/2.04 ERA/1.01 WHIP/4.77 K9/2.56 BB9/3.66 FIP in AAA
C Tomas Telis: 69 OVR/C/24 yo.
.280/.311/.480/125 AB in AAA
1B Josh Naylor: 52 OVR/B/18 yo.
No stats (A)
MIA is leading the wildcard at 42-31 and the bottom 2 of the rotation is straight garbage. Both guys have 5.5+ ERA and 1.7+ WHIPs.
OAK sends to PIT
SP Rich Hill: 8-2/96 IP/3.66 ERA/1.45 WHIP/9.75 K9/4.97 BB9/3.93 FIP/1.46 WAR
PIT sends to OAK
3B Ke'Bryan Hayes 58 OVR/B/19 yo.
.336/.400/.522/113 AB in AA
2B Kevin Kramer 50 OVR/C/22 yo.
No stats (A)
SS Cole Tucker 51 OVR/B/19 yo.
PIT is 2nd in WC and have the best offense in the NL. Pitching is barely staying alive with Liriano, Cole and Niese doing their best. Taillon needs more time in AAA but he's all they have right now to even finish out a rotation.
_______________________________________________
MIN
SP Ricky Nolasco: 7-4/105.2/2.38 ERA/1.07 WHIP/6.13 K9/1.7 BB9/3.24 FIP/2.42 WAR
HOU
3B J.D. Davis 63 OVR/B/23 yo.
.273/.325/.373/110 AB in AA.
SP/RP Scott Feldman salary relief
Astros lost Kuechel for the year and they've barely put together a full starting rotation, Nolasco has been pitching well on a bad Twins team. Astros also lost Correa (year) and Gomez for extended amount of time but they're still fighting. They're 3rd in the division but only back 4 games and they're second in the WC behind the Rangers who are 2nd in the division and are also looking for starting pitching somewhere. Would there need to be more?
** PIT can't handle Nolasco's contract**
*If it's too early then I'll revisit these same scenarios if they're the same later on.*Last edited by epikOH; 07-14-2016, 02:16 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
I think a found a decent deal for Chapman. This deal would send him to the Cubs for Albert Almora-MLB(Only 23 AB's, hitting .087) and Dan Vogelbach-AAA(164 AB, .287/.375/.390, 3 HR, 19 RBI).
My thought is that the Yankees might not be getting enough, but I'm not entirely sure of Chapman's total value. Any thoughts would be well appreciated.
EDIT: I'm gonna add Zastrynzy to the deal to give the Yanks more talent. He currently is pitching at a 2.26 ERA over 111.2 IP at AA.
I like the idea of Vogelbach getting sent to an AL team where he could be used as the DH. Main preference outside of a bat would be pitching in my opinion.Former modder of "Ultimate Rosters" for MVP Baseball 2005.

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Approaching deadline in my Tigers Franchise. James McCann has decent numbers for me at Catcher but I want to make a change. How would this deal sound?
Tigers get: C Jonathan Lucroy
Brewers get: SP Daniel Norris, C James McCann, CF Anthony Gose
Am I giving up too much or too little?Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Poor Ross - always getting dealt
I wanted some prospect valuation feedback, this time from my MLB16 franchise, so you don't have to worry about me posting some SCEA draftee from a 6 years in the futureJust 1 year in the future
Player: Kevin Diaz
Age: 19
Position(s): 3B, 1B/2B
Bats: R, Throws: R
Level: AA
Current Grades: 63 (rising) / B (steady)
Skill Profile: Contact hitter with good habits at the plate. Should post good K% in the minors and should translate as he moves up and improves. Power won't likely come around to more than average, probably slightly below. Has a 3B Arm, but needs work on his footwork and reads. Decent baserunner, not shy about being aggressive, but not a Mateo, etc, speed threat.
Current Stats: 53 AB, .153 BA, 0 HR, 5 RBI, 4 SB
My Take: Contact is very advanced (70 +4) for a 19-year-old, even if the average hasn't come around. Currently focusing on his bat since with an infield of Piscotty/Russell/J. Mateo/Gallo, future conquerer of the (MLB16) world, Diaz...won't be starting if he rises through my system, unless he jumps in defense, then maybe I'll battle him with Russell/Piscotty. Otherwise, he'd make a nice PH specialist and as a part-timer, I could tolerate questionable defense.
However, I think he has value to another team as a potential starting prospect, especially if they shift focus to his defense, hence why I'm open to trading him for SP prospects. Any opinions on a ballpark idea of what level of SP (obviously not a future ace) I might should shoot for?"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Would that player not serve as a guy on the 25 man who can spell starters and in the event of an injury/poor performance step in and not be a drop off?
Don't think I'm trading Ross or Norris and I don't think Kemp's contract is one a team would take on...so no trades for me this season.Last edited by NDAlum; 07-14-2016, 12:29 PM.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
If I don't/can't deal him, that would be the plan. I'm not adverse to keeping him, and will if "forced".
But I have a dearth of pitching prospects (only 2 guys above C and most of them are old for minor leaguers at that) at the lower levels and the two guys I do have carry some potential game-killers in their development:
Kojima might not have the stuff (questionable pitch ratings) even if develops the makeup and the other Medeiros is rising fast right now, but command and raw makeup are potential red flags.
One of my "top" prospects (Carson Fulmer) is taking his sweet time getting good (git gud, Carson). I smell Tyler Kolek all over again (in my carryover, Kolek didn't even progress until he was 27...and dropped hard in POT).
So I figure instead of just tabbing him a future 25th man, maybe I could see what I could grab to fix the pitcher prospect problem in my low minors because he could start for someone, I think.
I would consider trading Bonifacio except I signed him this past offseason and he's cheap as heck ($2 M TOTAL over 4 years) and plays like 7 positions.
I also have Avery Romero, who is currently serving the role Diaz would for the infield and is better defensively, aside from arm, and takes a little load from Bonifacio. Granted Diaz will likely be better with the bat in a few years, perhaps by the end of this year, as a contact hitter.
Dealing Romero instead is not out of the question, but I would think he'd fetch a smaller return."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment
