So a team should never consider trading established players for prospects. Got it.

You know that isn't what I said. If you read my post the page before you will see that. Clearly established players are traded for prospects. I am saying McCutcheon has substantially more value than Conforto

Nobody is arguing that. You asked how they are comparable, I answered. I neither said, nor implied, they had the same value. Just the factors that are considered in a hypothetical trade.

Conforto's ability and potential are not comparable to McCutchen's even remotely

No, they are comparable. They are in no way close to equal, but they are comparable.

They're comparable in a way that Joe Ross compares to Jacob DeGrom. They are both baseball players. The ceilings are much different though

Even the biggest NYM fan cannot honestly say they see an 8+ WAR season in Conforto's future

And where exactly did anyone say that they do see that?

I'm not going to spend time debating semantics. A reasonable evaluation of Conforto would suggest an upper first division starter upside and Andrew McCutchen has been a superstar for many years now.

So I am in year 1 of my 'chise with the Rockies, and honestly, I want Reyes gone. However, I want a fair trade done, but its very hard with his huge salary. I checked the trade block after I put Reyes on it, and the Cardinals were a team interested. Here is what I came up with:

                      Rockies Get:
                      Jake Thompson SP
                      Carlos Ruiz C

                      Cardinals get:
                      Jose Reyes SS
                      Chris Nelson 3B
                      C Jackson Williams

MLB - Toronto Blue Jays 56-45

I think if you replace Reyes with Howard (he only has one year left right?) it's fair.

In my mariners franchise I want to get rid of Taijuan Walker because I'm horrible with him. He is 23 years old 83 ovr with a high B potential. Who is a young up and coming middle of the lineup type guy I can trade for Walker?

So in my Rockies franchise, I was thinking of doing a Charlie Blackmon and Jake marisnik swap but I dont know what sort of prospect to give the Astros in return.

Lol. Haven't stopped by this thread much yet (roster editing portion of the season), but I am guessing getting rid of Jose Reyes is already a theme? Basically, you trade him for another bad contract. No other way. Certainly not getting value for a suspended, declining, overpaid player.

If not Lucroy, who else could you see the Astros targetting, assuming it's before the season starts and they want to trade for an All-Star catcher.
Brewers wouldn't be giving up Lucroy if they wanted MLB talent. AC made a proposal of Martes + Singleton that makes sense because it spares the 1B spects that you want to keep and fills a long term need for the Brewers at 1B.

Trade him before he even plays a game in Atlanta?

Venters? Maybe get back Brandon Guyer or Brad Miller along with him.

Was thinking Padres for Matt Thornton. I know Thornton old as dirt, but Moya is pretty much blocked at the moment and I like Gerber and Stewart as prospects better and I'm trying to build that bullpen for a playoff push.
Padres would take that. Moya could get you a really good 7th inning option or a pretty good 8th inning option or a bargain closer.
