Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Sonny Gray surplus value in 2nd season
5*8*3 = 120-5.2 = 114.8 mil in surplus vaule.
Coming off a bad year for Gray's standards(2.58 WAR) I see him having a bounce back year and have a few more years of a (5 WAR or higher) Now since he is a sure fire ace I'm gonna have to dig deep into the prospect pool on this one.
As the Twins if I were to build a package around Jose Berrios / Tyler Jay ( Keith Law 100 there #15 and #55 respectfully) what else would I have to add to bring Gray to anchor my pitching staff ?NewYork Mets | NewYork Knicks | NewYork "Football" Giants

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
I am the Twins and I think a deal for Gray including Berrios and Jay are too much. I think one of Bertios/Jay and as well as a couple B prospects could land him. Berrios and Jay alone could land him or one of Berrios/Jay and Nick GordonSonny Gray surplus value in 2nd season

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
I'm the Dodgers and I'm looking for another Kike Hernandez.
I have a lot of lefty bats and could use one more lefty-killer super sub who plays good defense. Speed would be a plus, but more important is above-average defense in-game (i.e. passing the eye test for facility at multiple positions). I don't necessarily need a guy with power.
I have more arms than I can use, so I can pay an above-market price for a player who fits this bill whom I can start a couple of times a week and whom I can play against lefties if my starters are struggling vs. LHP.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.Comment

Have you looked at Harrison or Hansen from Pitt? Solarte(SD), Villar(MIL), Baez (Chi), Profar(Tex), Forsythe(TB) could all loosely fit your description.I'm the Dodgers and I'm looking for another Kike Hernandez.

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Very helpful, thanks!
I should note that the super sub doesn't necessarily need to be able to play all of Kike's positions. He plays 7 (all but C and 1B).
If there's a really good guy who's slightly less versatile but can give relief at 4-5 positions with above average defense, I'd be very interested and willing to overpay.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Maybe a low B and/or a mid/high C prospect...Probably a hitter with a little pop b/c the Rays have plenty of pitching and could use some power in their lineup
Edit: How far into the season are you, and what team are you trying to aquire him with?Chicago Cubs
Michigan Wolverines
Thanks Peyton. #18Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Hey Guys. I am finally to the offseason (no stats) in my Franchise. I was looking at a couple deals. I am only interested in one of the first 2:
1) Trade Devon Travis + Richard Urena to the A's for Josh Reddick+Sean Doolittle. This would give me a RF and a solid late inning RP to replace Brett Cecil who left me. Bautista will move to DH here.
2) Trade for Wilson Ramos. I was thinking something around Pillar+Hutch for Ramos+ something.
How do these sound?Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
I have been messing around with surplus value to figure out a deal with what I want to do with the Red Sox.
Basically, I view Blake Swihart as extra value I don't need at the catcher position because I play well with Christian Vasquez who is a superior defender. I figure I can use Swihart to get an upgrade over Eduardo Rodriguez (someone with a higher celing). This is based on the idea a rebuilding team would want to turn one current MLB piece into two good starters. Here are two options:
Given Eduardo's performance of 1.75 WAR in 2016 and what could be around 2.5 WAR in 2017, I assumed he will average around 2.3 WAR in his 4 remaining years of team control. Discounting the WAR over the 3 future years, while subtracting his 1.7M owed in 2 of the years and calculated arbitration value, I got a surplus value of $44.67M
I looked at Julio Teheran first. His value has been pretty back and forth in this thread. Some value him more than others, while the real life Braves say they want a good hitter in return. What I think is more important is his in game stats. Compared to Eduardo he has a higher ceiling 85 potential vs. 83 while performing slightly worse, 3.73 era vs. 3.61 era and 83 ovr vs. 79.
Based on his $20M owed in 4 years and assuming an average of about 2.5 WAR per season over those 4 years (multiplied by a discount factor), it would turn into about $50.4M surplus value.
Assuming I'm in the ballpark with the values, Swihart + Rodriguez is a solid base for Teheran.
Earlier I asked about Vince Velasquez (87 pot) from the Phillies but that deal didn't make sense because of Alfaro, so I removed Swihart out of the deal. With Vince owning a 3.27 and 3.31 era in 2016 and 2017, I assumed he'd average around 3.7 WAR over his remaining 5 years for a surplus of $87.3M.
What about Velasquez for Rodriguez + 20 yr LHP 67 ovr 85 pot as a base?Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Im in 2017 at the all star break and need a an upgrade at 2nd. Reds are 30-58. Brandon Phillips is hitting .281/.345/.377 with 4 HR. Are Tim Collins (2.67 ERA in 27 IP) and Cheslor Cuthbert (.295/.340/.424 with 7 HR in AAA) enough to get him?Comment
