Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

I was offered Kurt Suzuki for Matt Dominguez. Now after first look Dominguez isn't that valuable in real life but in game he's not all bad. He's 73 (C) with over 50s contact and power vs right and lefties and he has solid fielding (78 and 64 reaction). He's batting .305 with 2 homers and 5 RBI so far to start the year in AAA in 105 at bats.

Suzuki is batting .282 in 78 at bats with 1 homer and 11 RBI. Murphy has 34 at bats and is batting .235 with 1 homer and 3 RBI and is their catcher of the future.

Now I wouldn't just give Dominguez. I would add another C prospect and maybe even another catcher like AJ Jimenez to solidify it in a 3-1 deal. Suzuki is earning 4.1 million this year and Minnesota would probably like his contract off the books for a couple lower prospects and Dominguez who would be a nice bench piece backing up 1B and 3B.

How does that look? There have already been 2 catchers dealt that I wanted so I don't want to wait too long into the season to make a deal. The twins are 18-14 to start the year so I will likely wait a month or so and see how they do.

I think you missed the point. I'm just saying that with DD, nobody is untouchable so really anyone on the BoSox can be had for the right price. He's not afraid to move the prospects for veterans, as he has proven. He's gone on the record to say that "there is no such thing as an untradeable player, some are just more difficult to trade away than others".

But yeah, most of the trades that were done under DD and AA have favored the Tigers - even if the chip never made it's way back to the D.

I am the Twins and Suzuki really isn't that great and I would advise looking elsewhere. Murphy has taken the starting job from Suzuki in my franchise.

Thanks for the advice. He would backup Martin and provide a contact bat vs lefties so he wouldn't be starting. Although I can be patient. I just may have found a gem amongst my farm depth. After trying and sending down Thole and Lavarnaway already this year, I decided to call up Wilkin Castillo. He's a 31 year old rookie (60 C went up to 65 with the call up) who has 44/40 contact as a switch hitting catcher. He can also play SS, 2B and 3B which surprised me. He went 1/4 in his debut getting his first major league hit against SF. In game 2 I started him at 2b due to most of my players being fatigued and he is 1/2 so far with a 2 run double. I doubt he will keep this up, but I could ride him for a bit. Especially with his versatility.

However, off track. Since Suzuki isn't overly good. Is Dominguez+a low C prospect and a bottom tier catcher like Jimenez or Thole work for him and maybe a D minor leaguer?

While the moves in Detroit were made by DD, he had Mike Ilitch in his ear literally hell bent on winning. He didn't/doesn't care about the minor leagues, but chasing that World Series at all costs. If there's a valuable guy in the minors who isn't helping the big league club, there's a pretty big chance he'd get traded under that regime.

What I'm getting at is that DD made some big moves and traded whatever young guys, but the ownership group in Boston is completely different. They've seen plenty of young guys come through their system and have great success. I don't think they're as eager to dump guys as what it's made out to be.

It's rare to trade inter-division. Especially when those teams are tied for first lol.

Everyone in their system is "untouchable" or "can't miss" and they think they can get any player in the league without giving up anything of value. For every Betts, there have been dozens of other guys who were "the next big thing" and flopped.

Swihart joins a nice long line of recent can't misses who missed:
                    Lars Anderson
                    Ryan Lavarnway
                    Anthony Ranaudo
                    Will Middlebrooks
                    Garin Cecchini
                    George Kottaras
Ryan Westmoreland (not his fault, but still)
                    Craig Hansen
Led Lowrie (He's a decent player, but was talked up as being way more than he has been up to this point in his career)
                    Ryan Kalish

Some of these guys have done more than others, and some were hyped more than others, but most of them were touted as being "sure things". Like I said, every team overvalues prospects, but the Red Sox have the annoying ability to overdue it thanks to the media.
A decent list, and yes on Ranaudo. He was another guy that everyone was trying to boost into the 'A potential' range 18 months ago. Looks like a AAAA pitcher for Texas at this point. Nodding my head on Cecchini, too, who is AAAA for Milwaukee. We can go back to Shea Hillenbrand if we really want to, lol, the spiritual predecessor of Middlebrooks. Not to even mention Dice-K...

Not to only pick on Boston fans, because every fanbase goes through adjustments in their thinking over time (see Baez and Soler on the Cubs), but the Boston people seem a bit more echo chamber-y than most.

He was progressing perfectly fine for a young catcher before being demoted for really no good reason. He should still be catching for the MLB team Vaz should still be in AAA but someone decided to stick a guy with an above average catcher bat but average OF bat in LF.

I think it is still possible for Swihart to right the ship and end up a pretty good switch hitting catcher. It may not be for Boston though since they seem to be screwing up his development about as badly as you could.

Lets not call a guy with a 271 batting average who only has 380 PA in the majors a bust just yet.
I agree. I don't think Swihart's goose is cooked yet. My point is more to the meteoric rise and fall of how he's been perceived by his own fans.

Moving Swihart to LF so they can keep Vazquez plugged in at C gives you an idea of what a huge hit Swihart's trade value has taken. Swihart's bat could be decent, but really only valuable when combined with playing catcher. He's just another random dude (or maybe even below average) with a bat like that playing corner OF. Plenty of waiver wire willies out there that can hit like him and play LF.

                      Looking to move these fellas:

Rondon (took him off CP and moved to pen, strop is on fire)
Lackey (37 and not having the best season, 4.02 era)
Baez (solid A potential but Russell is young and Torres is in minors)

                      Best offer I've seen:

                      Freeman
                      Teheran

I'll probably keep Teheran and move freeman with soler for a big name 3 bagger or LF. Suggestions? Good idea?

You're not getting Teheran and Freeman for Baez, a bullpen piece and a 37 year old pitcher.

Makes no sense for Atlanta to do that trade whatsoever, I would not allow that trade if you want any sense of reality.

Sounds like you been having to much fun.

The Giants trade just makes to much sense not to make it. I can see them make the Beltran trade AGAIN. lol and with those numbers Beickford could be had for another possible ring.

Cubs trade has been discussed many pages back but looking back the Cubs prospects value go up and down and all around so may need to just look back or someone else can chime in.

The Angels trade looks very interesting to me. Depending how their playing in your chise they may be willing to part with a hurt talent (but does have upside) and C.J. Wilson who is a shell of his old self for McCann and Grander to win now with no help coming out of that garbage can they call a farm system. I don think it's a bad deal but I can be wrong and not seeing something else.

Baez (solid A potential but Russell is young and Torres is in minors)

                                Best offer I've seen:

                                Freeman
                                Teheran

I'll probably keep Teheran and move freeman with soler for a big name 3 bagger or LF. Suggestions? Good idea?
