Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
I'm not a Dombrowski fan. I thought it was fair value. AC thought it was fair value. There is enough risk in an 18 year old pitcher in A ball that mitigates the ceiling with a trade. Fangraphs has articles about how it was fair value. But sure if whoever MLB Network had on TV said it was bad it must be bad.
This is a SELLER'S market. Brewers don't have to trade Lucroy. That means they can get an absurd amount of talent back. And the Indians aren't the Sox, Braves, Rangers or Dodgers, they have a solid system but no one outside of you I guess thinks their system is elite.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
The teams out of contention (10+ GB in the WC, my perimeter for being out of contention) Angels, A's, Ray's, Twins, Padres, Brewers, DBacks, Reds, Braves. Now good players I can possibly see moving from each team.
LAA: Houston Street (depending on his contract and performance)
A's: Rich Hill
Ray's: One of Cobb, Odorizzi, Moore
Twins: maybe a Trevor Plouffe or Brian Dozier (don't know how they are performing or contract statuses)
Padres: Ross, Cashner
DBacks: See Reds
Reds: Maybe their closer (depending on performance)
Braves: see RedsComment

Now that you mention that it does sound like our old friend...Anyone else getting the sense that our argumentative, multiply-banned Indians fan friend is back? lol. Has all the hallmarks...a know-it-all that just joined and is starting to throw shade...It always starts with "everyone on the Indians is more valuable than they really are" then devolves from there.
Edit: Random question what are your thoughts on Michael Brantley?
And the reporter that was ripping on DD was Tony Massarotti. He is a Boston Sports Radio host. And here's his full take that you didn't hear in the interview. He hated the deal because he doesn't think Pomeranz will hold up and that this year's performance is an anomaly. He does NOT care that Anderson Espinoza was traded. He has said the last couple of days (since his return, from staycation that lasted all of last week, on Monday) that he is open to trading Espinoza he just wanted a better return.Last edited by redsox4evur; 07-20-2016, 07:16 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
In 2018 the White Sox need to rebuild. I want to blow their team up at the ASB as they are tied for the worst record in baseball (40-65). They need to ship out Sale/Abreu for pieces.
Sale (29 yrs old 93 ovr A POT with $36M owed over next 4.5 seasons...WTF how did they pull this off?)
2018 stats: 145 IP 176 K 38 BB 2.92 ERA 1.16 WHIP 4 CG 3 SHO 4.01 WAR
He's been durable and has at least 208.2 IP over last 3 seasons. He's a true #1 ace with several more years of excellence
Abreu (31 yrs old 86 ovr B POT with $40M owed over next 3.5 seasons...a bargain)
2018 stats: .286/.336/.531 with 24 HR 54 RBI 1.94 WAR
He's played in at least 145 gms in all 4 MLB seasons and is coming off two great years averaging 40 HR 110 RBI
Available suitors for Sale:
Pittsburgh Pirates seem like the best fit
Would this work for Sale
SP Tyler Glasnow (24 76 ovr A pot)
SP Josh Winters (23 64 ovr A pot - drafted player)
3B Ke'Bryan Hayes (21 66 B pot)
CF Austin Meadows (22 68 B pot)
Teams for Abreu:
Washington Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays
Nationlals potential deal:
***Don't have pieces unless Giolito is involved***
St. Louis Cardinals for Abreu:
SP Alex Reyes (23 76 ovr A pot)
SS Delvin Perez (20 67 ovr A pot)
3B William Chen (20 68 ovr B pot - drafted player)
Giants don't have pieces
Blue Jays
CF Anthony Alford (22 75 ovr A pot)
SP Sean Reid-Foley (21 71 ovr B pot)
Thoughts?
2 A's and 2 B's for a 29-year-old Sale with good stats (4 WAR at the ASB is very good for Sale) is still a bit rich considering that Glasnow progresses pretty nicely in most sims that I've done. I feel like it would be only one of those A's or the Pirates would bow out because they could probably get somewhat similar production from Glasnow. Any stats for the other players in these deals?
Abreu has good stats, although 2 WAR isn't spectacular, and at 31 he'll be regressing moderately over those 3.5 years. I doubt a 31-year-old Abreu fetches an A prospect in return, let alone 2 of them. Maybe subtract Reyes from the deal?
I think in both cases it would help to know a little bit--don't need a novel--about how the Sale suitors' rotations are doing and how the Abreu suitors are doing with their current 1B.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
So I am closing in on a Deal for Devin Mesoraco. Looking like I will be dealing Wander Javier and Kohl Stewart. As I posted before Mesoraco has been hurt all season and he will be activated soon. Once activated I may pull the deal as the deadline is approaching. I think givin up Stewart may be a reach in the dea for Mesoraco because of injury concerns but willing to part with him.Follow my Twins franchise http://www.operationsports.com/Tmizzle/dynasty/Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Ratings are like projections - if a player is performing far below them, it's reasonable to expect them to perform more in line with them going forward, barring evidence to the contrary.
So if his ratings are strong and point to him being a solid pitcher (I don't know what his ratings are), I could see him paying his "real value" because he's not paying for the 5.75 ERA he put up before, but the possibly better, more-in-line-with-ratings performance going forward, which he hopes would be worth whatever he'd have to deal.Check out my dynasty: Rise to the Top: The Coaching Career of Joshua Morgan (NCAA 14)Comment

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread
Except one season is not necessarily a good measure of a pitcher or a player in general, imo.
Because he doesn't have a long track record, I feel you should regress what he did pretty significantly back towards what his ratings would likely produce.
I'd say this if he was throwing like Kershaw with a 1.57 ERA or something.
Especially in The Show since being "hot" or "cold" can be pretty powerful and build a momentum of sorts of it's own. That may not happen the next season, or for the same duration or at the same timing, etc."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment
