So after sweeping the opening series of the season on the road, Colorado came home to Coors Field for their home opener to start the 6 game home stand. I have to admit after the opening series and just seeing how ridiculously stacked my lineup is, I was worried I would just be steamrolling everyone and the season might be boring and not too realistic. The opening series at home changed my mind lol. It shows that this game if played at the proper skill level can play very realistic. You will have games where the pitchers just struggle, defense just has a bad day or bats go cold. But then you can go on a run with no errors for games, pitchers being lights out and bats putting up 10 runs. This is what makes the game fun to play for me. Here's how things went for Colorado vs San Diego:
Game 1: 10-5(L). Very ugly game. Steven Matz started and was getting no help. Defense made 5 errors that led to a total of 5 unearned runs out of the 10. I was down 10-0 going into the bottom of the 6th. Between the 6th and 7th my team battled back a bit with 4 homers, 2 by Story. In the 9th, trailing by 5 we loaded the bases with no one out. They brought in Andrew Miller and he was nasty. He struck out 3 straight to end it and pick up the save.
Game 2: 8-2(L). Hoping my team would rebound with a strong effort, but it was the opposite. The weakest offensive effort of the season so far. Only mustering two runs on a Dickerson 2-R HR in the 4th which cut the lead to 3-2. After that Brett Anderson settled down and kept us their through his 8 strong innings. Robbie Ray surrendered 6 runs on 10 hits in 7 innings and took the loss.
Game 3: 5-4(L 10 inn). The Padres completed the sweep! After trailing all game we went into the 9th behind 4-3. In the 9th, Stanton doubled and then Kyle Schwarber hit an RBI single off nasty lefty Andrew Miller to tie the game. We went to the 10th and Ender Inciarte hit a lead off HR off of veteran Left hander Matt Thornton. That would turn out to be the game winner as Pedro Strop would pitch a 1-2-3 10th for the save.
Very disappointing opening series to get swepth at home vs a division rival. Time to bounce back vs another division opponent as the San Francisco Giants come to Coors Field for a 3 game set.
