Thinking of trying this one last time...lol

Hoping for a Donaldson/Duvall/Wallace lineup & going heavy on the pitching.

I've decided...power pitching, power hitting & some raw youth. Might go SP, SP, SP to start the draft even!

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Here's how the Rockies look. I drafted 45 rounds and simmed the rest.

        SP:
        1. Syndergaard
        2. Tanaka
        3. Maeda
        4. Nola
        5. Chi Chi Gonzalez

        RP:
        Adcock
        Chafin
        Frieri
        Jeffress
        Chapman
        Kela
        Bracho (CL)

        Typical Lineup:
        CF Betts
        SS Bogaerts
        3B Gallo
        RF Mazara
        C Salvador Perez
        1B Wil Myers
        LF Pagan
        2B Travis
        <Pitcher's Spot>

        Typical Bench:
        C Hedges
        2B/CF Jose Peraza
        OF Buxton
        OF Mallex Smith
        2B/SS Jorge Polanco

        Top Prospects:
        SP Giolito
        SS Mateo
        SS Albies
        3B Devers
        SP Russell
3B Cabbage (and I thought "Mallex" was a fun name)
        LF Adam Walker
        C Chase Vallot

Not much depth at 1B for the bench to start - or much behind Gallo either. So that's two areas that will need addressing somehow. Probably could move Buxton but not sure I want to for a depth bat unless he was also a good prospect.

Plenty of depth up the middle, though. So maybe some options.

Definitely a young team and not much depth. So hopefully, they can stay healthy. Pitching will have to carry things...which will be an adventure in Coors Field. But those arms might could do it. That's one thing about this team - it's got the pitching and it should have the defense, and there's a lot of decent or better baserunners. So in that at least, I think I achieved that goal. Just a matter of how it will play out.

Gallo will have to develop well. I'm counting on him to do it again like he is in my Red Sox franchise.

I know what I'll be scouting, though.

Pitchers (of course, it's Coors Field)
Catchers (of course...they go extinct fast it seems)
Infielders (especially 1B and possible 3B options)

          @kb

Team looks good! Gallo should have plenty of rbi opportunities with Betts & Bogarts in front of him! Scary to think of his power numbers in Coors if he performs anything like he did in your sox chise!

Your pitching staff may actually survive pitching half their games at Coors, which is no small task!

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

So after much deliberating...I've come to this decision....

I am going to model my team after the 2000-2001 Oakland A's.

That being said I am going to need 3 premier bats in the infield, 2 above average in the outfield, 3 young starters (my big 3), a good closer and an above average bullpen.

This seems like a tall order task out of a draft, but I am going to do my damndest to accomplish it. There will be NO trades post draft to accomplish my goal.

That being said, I understand I am not going to draft an exact replica rated in prime player team. My goal is to emulate the roster as best as possible. Might not get 3 infielders / 2 of. But I am going to try to get 3 premier hitters and 2 above avg for sure.

My main goal with the pitchers is to get 3 pitchers who have No stats from any other teams - so they will be a "homegrown" big three.

Draft Recap / Spring Training / Outlook

The draft went well, as we sat the 16th pick overall. I feel as though I was able to complete my goal and draft the type of players I was looking for. The only negative was that in order to establish my "Big Three" I had to draft two pitchers that had less than 110 days of service, although both are 22 years old.

              Projected Lineup:
              RF: Markakis (L)
              CF: Frazier (R)
              SS: Seager (L)
              3B: Bryant (R)
              1B: Davis (L)
              LF: Smith (L)
              C: Flowers (R)
              2B: Rutledge (R)

This is a lineup that could very well lead the majors in multiple team categories. Markakis should serve well hitting lead off, and the rookie Clint Frazier looks to be well positioned with Corey Seager sitting behind him. Flowers is by far the weakest hitter on the team, but he wasnt drafted because of his bat.

The bench seems serviceable. Brandon Barnes will serve as a platoon partner with Seth Smith. Sean O'Malley is our jack of all trades, and Kelly Johnson will get the lions share of time at DH and pinch hitting.

The rotation has the ability to be great over time. Michael Fulmer is the 'old man' of the Big Three, teaming with Joe Ross & Brandon Finnegan to hopefully lead the Dodgers into the post season. Charlie Morton & David Huff are "good enough" with this offense behind them.

The bullpen, is a bit of a wild-card, not a strength not a weakness, we will have to wait and see.

              Depth
The big negative out of the draft, is that we are in awful shape if there is a significant injury. Kyle Kendricks (R) & Brad Mills (L) are in AAA and will get first dibs in case of an injury to the rotation. Heath Hembree & Ray Black are the bullpen fallbacks. Ryan Howard, Tommy La Stella, Chris Denorfia & Gordon Beckham are the position players with the best chance of being called up in case of an injury.

              Prospects
SP Jose De Leon (R) 66/A
              SP Sean Newcomb (L) 66/A
              SP Braden Shipley (R) 66/B
              SP Kohl Stewart (R) 65/B
              C Carson Kelly (R) 67/C
              2B Matt Reynolds (R) 67/B
              CF Austin Meadows (L) 64/A

              Spring Training Simmed: 15-13

*Overall I am highly excited about this team / franchise*

                Solid squad.

Good luck with Finnegan. I hope he does better for you than he did with me. He looks like he should be awesome, so maybe I just got bad luck so he might not pan out for me (happens!)

That infield could be nasty maybe this season and very likely next at the lastest. Davis, Seager, Bryant. Whew.

Davis is young enough to where he could hang with a couple peak years of Seager/Bryant, especially if he does well.

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

                    3-2 Victory

The Dodgers were able to win the first game of the season, while visiting the divison Rival - Padres. The outcome was what we hoped for, but getting there was strange.

Michael Fulmer had struck out 10 in 6 innings, and entered the 7th with a 2-0 lead. 7 innings turned out to be too much, as he allowed 2 runs. Dan Jennings was able to stop the bleeding. David Phelps earned the victory after being called upon to pitch the bottom of the 8th and getting a 1-2-3 inning.

On a team with Kris Bryant, Corey Seager, & Chris Davis, the stars of the offense tonight wound up being Tyler Flowers & rookie center fielder Clint Frazier. Flowers hit a solo home run in the 3rd. Frazier followed that up with an RBI single.

In the top of the 9th, Nick Markakis lead off with a single. Michael Bourn came on to pinch run and immedeatly stole 2nd on a slow curve. On the next pitch, the hit and run was on, and Frazier was able to push on between the 3B & SS, plating Bourn for what turned out to be the winning run.

** This team is every bit as fun as I had hoped it to be!

Btw with the mid season OS...

Bryant was a 93, Seager an 88, and Davis an 86.

After morale and coaching boosts, I'm at 90 Seager, 92 Bryant, 88 Davis.

KB and J Smith, good luck with your new teams. I also drafted a Rockies franchise myself, just broke into May with them and I'm loving it so far. In my other franchises I was hitting for power, but was tired of a team Avg in the .230-.240 range, especially when I don't walk a lot. I figured my pitching was dominant enough to handle the difficulty of Coors and that it would give my average a boost. Started off horribly slow with the bats again(other than power numbers). Had 4 everyday starters on cold streaks halfway through the month, but then we turned it on big time the last few weeks and the last game of April I had 7 everyday starters on hot streaks!

I have a nasty 1-2 punch on the mound with Kershaw/Salazar who are both dominating(combined 11-0 in 12 starts with sub 2.00 ERA). I also have Finnegan who seems to be a little inconsistent so far, but he's had a few great starts. He's my #3. Then I rounded out the rotation giving two rookies a shot(Urias and Giolito). I have power arms in my bullpen like I always like, led by my NYY connection of Betances/Miller plus hard throwing Jake Diekman and including veterans Rodney, Oliver Perez and Houston Street. Then I have my powerhouses in the lineup with Fowler(MVP so far), Stanton, Schwarber, Story. Not to mention I also have a lot of other young talent including Pederson, Baez, Shaw, Byung Ho Park, Buxton and Marwin Gonzalez. Team is stacked and a lot of fun to play with. I'm absolutely sticking this one out. I'm getting sick of starting and stopping franchise after franchise!

I made 1 trade after the draft since I really wanted to have Kershaw since I abandoned my last team that I drafted him on. I had the #6 pick and he was gone. So I traded my #1(Jose Fernandez), Bartolo Colon(to make up some $$$) and another pitching prospect to get the best pitcher out there. Otherwise all my picks were mine with the #6 spot overall.

Rockies are new but still got the Sox going.

Rockies started out 1-4 with Syndergaard picking up the lone win. Well, Syndergaard has the 2nd win as well after striking out 11 batters in 8 innings of work.

Padres started Collin McHugh was tough, but the Rockies at the least burned a lot of his pitches with good patience. They drew a lot of walks and had deep counts but couldn't get hits. That held until Devon Travis hit a 2-run HR. Then Gallo got a HR in the next inning. Wil Myers then hit the capper to put the Rockies up 5-1 and they would win 5-2.

Syndergaard picked up a double in the game. Salvador Perez picked up one as well. In all, the Rockies walked 6 times.

4/5 games were decided by 2 runs or less. If this keeps up, our luck will soon run out. The positive take away is 6 home runs by 6 different players, in 5 games...glad I used my hr sponsorship!
