d'Arnaud Traded as Rangers Boost Offense
    Slugger Abreu Moves to Texas

The Rangers are not going to stay in last place without a fight it seems. They picked up 1B Jose Abreu from the Twins. It did cost Travis d'Arnaud, however.

Still, the Rangers get one of the three best sluggers of the first half to boost their offense.

For the Twins, they might be looking to flip d'Arnaud, which might open a possibility for the Red Sox.

    Finnegan Being Shopped

Speaking of the Red Sox, Brandon Finnegan, the embattled young starting pitcher, is being aggressively shopped in the final weeks leading up to the trade deadline. Sources do not mention if there's any talks leading beyond the preliminary stages, though.

On one hand, Finnegan might be a tough sell because his trajectory is in question. On the other hand, he SHOULD be a solid young starter with a good foundation for further growth. He will also come with years of team control.

    Cespdes Out. Inciarte Next Target?

Yoenis Cespdes will not be traded by the Astros (not the Mets as stated earlier). The Red Sox contacted the Astros about the prolific center fielder, but nothing came of the talks.

"We couldn't strike up a starting point that made sense for both sides. We decided to break off talks since time is precious at this stage of the year for trade talks, " the Boston GM commented.

The Marlins are in flux as they could load up for a push or retool and continuing collecting young, team-controlled potential starters for next year. That keeps Inciarte as a possibility for the Sox.

The problem with him, however, is that he's very heavily leaning vs RHP in his abilities. That makes him either a true platoon player or one that will have very pronounced splits. That might dampen spirit for picking him up.

Games 6 of the season Vs the Oakland A's
      Stroman Vs Webster

Stroman pitched nothing like an ace giving up 9 runs 8 earned in just 5 innings worth of work walking 1 and striking out 4 with 10 hits for his first loss of the season. He is now 1-1 with a 7.50 ERA. One of the biggest blows came in the first after an infield single off Stroman's leg and an error by Stroman, then a Grand Slam by Adrian Gonzalez to open up the game 4-0.

The Marines would try to come back but the A's just kept hitting. The Mariners had the lead cut to just 3 runs at 11-8 in the 8th but gave up 2 more runs in the 9th to put the game out of reach.

It was a total meltdown by the pitching staff

Hopefully Michael Fulmer can stop the bleeding when they play the Texas Rangers next. A team that Fulmer shut down the last time he pitched.

      Upcoming Games

April 11th Vs Texas Rangers Fulmer (1-0 1.00) Vs Scott Kazmir (0-1 8.31)
      April 12th Vs Texas Rangers Rodon (1-0 2.84) Vs A.J. Griffin (0-1 4.50)
      April 13th Vs Texas Rangers Eickhoff (1-0 1.29) Vs Nolasco (1-0 0.00)

Red Sox Make Small But Possibly Productive
        Trade for Catcher

Looks like the Red Sox will try something to help the catcher position after all. They acquire Audry Perez from the Royals for 2B Cito Culver and SP Josh Smith.

While Perez will not wow anyone, he does have a decent hit tool and should be adequate as a receiver behind the plate. That would be a positive. Even a steady .250-.260 average would be an upgrade from Zunino's sub-Mendoza hitting.

The downside to Perez is that he will be eligible for free agency after the season, but the team likely feels confident in his signability, should he prove worth it.

        Stroman Dealt as Jays Rebuild
        Rockies Bolster Pitching Staff

The Rockies added Marcus Stroman from the Jays in return for SP Dillon Tate, 1B Sam Travis and CF Harrison Bader.

Travis is the key piece from the Jays side. He's a well-developed young hitter that has a chance to be more than just solid. If he pans out completely, the Jays will have at least one good player to show for the trade.

Meanwhile, the Rockies continue to stockpile pitching. Apparently, they are not content with having the best ERA in baseball at 2.86...in Coors Field...but instead want to add a third head to the top of the rotation. Harvey/Stroman/Richards could be the most fearsome trio in the game at this point.

Harper 3 RBI's and Franco 2 HR's and 3 RBI's power Red Birds To Commanding 5 Game Lead in NL Central With 7 Games Left To Play

The Cardinals rocked The Cubs in the 2nd game of a critical division deciding series 7-3. Carlos Rodon picked up his 12th win in a shaky outing. He went 5.1 innings yielding 11 hits and surrendering 3 ER. The bullpen did a great job of pitching shut down ball led by Medina. It was a bases loaded double by Bryce Harper that got the Cards going. Harper smoked a letter high fastball to RC and cleared the bases to up his RBI total to 107 on the season (to go along with his 37 HR's and .313 batting average). Harper in most years would be a triple crown winner but Edwin Encarnacion is having a career year at the dish and leads Harper ever so slightly in HR's and RBI's while Freddy Freeman seems to have locked down the leagues batting title with an incredible .328 BA with just under 2 weeks to go. Maikel Franco launched 2 HR's to CF and picked up 3 RBI's to awaken from his September slumber. Franco now has 21 HR's on the season to go along with his 62 RBI's. Franco has had minor injuries a few times that have hindered his numbers but the young 3B looks like he is gaining steam at the right time. Yoan Moncada had to exit the game with a slight calf strain, but it appeared to be not too serious. Rookie Jacob Herzberg came in (not Brock Holt) and picked up 2 hits and 2 SB's. Manager Mike Matheny thinks Moncada will only miss the series finale and already stated Herzberg will get the nod at 2B in his place.

Franco is all smiles after cranking out 2 moon shots at Wrigely Yesterday

Harper trucked a 3 RBI double to get the Red Birds off and running!

            No Sale on Finnegan

Looks like the Red Sox will have to hope that Finnegan comes around in the minors.

As thought might would happen, the Red Sox had a tough time getting teams to want to come with interesting pieces for Finnegan. Meanwhile, the team didn't want to sell Finnegan too cheaply or just take something for the sake of getting ready of the pitcher.

Finnegan would like to be at the majors, either for Boston or for another club. The Pirates would seem to be a good destination...but they had nothing of interest to the Red Sox, according to sources.

C Tyler Stephenson Claimed off Waivers

The Giants were trying to outright Tyler Stephenson to AAA, but the Red Sox put in a claim on him and the claim was executed. Stephenson will join the Pawtucket squad as a catcher prospect. Alberto Rosario was released from the Pawtucket roster to make room.

            Kike Hernandez to Red Sox
            for Gary Sanchez

The Red Sox did find some help in the outfield. The Rockies have plenty of pitching, but they wanted a prospect on the other side of the battery. Veterans Stephen Vogt and Steve Clevenger are there now, but the Rockies viewed Sanchez as a possible upgrade to Clevenger, sooner than later. To that end, they were willing to part with Kike Hernandez.

Hernandez's power will be called into question as well. He comes with 19 HR, but the "they came at Coors" will be brought up for sure, and with good reason. Like Piscotty, who had a high total for his power, Hernandez will probably not see the same success in HR. Piscotty, who shares a similar skill profile to Hernandez, saw his AB/HR rate rise from 22 to 28, which is closer to his rookie season in 2015 with the Cardinals. A similar rate would literally cut Hernandez's power output in half from where he's been so far this year.

Which is fine because another Piscotty-type batter would not be the worst thing in the world.

Kike's defense is not ideal for center field, so he'll likely be moved to RF. That could, and likely will, eventually slide Buxton back to CF sooner than later and that will really pressure Mallex Smith to improve his consistency. DeShields, too, for that matter. Buxton's bat is starting to come along, scouts think, so the CF battle could become heated soon.

Mallex will probably be returned to Pawtucket when Buxton returns to the majors from his injury. Yusniel Diaz will be optioned back to AAA to make room for Hernandez. Diaz's stint was not particularly graceful, .239/.295/.310, but at 19 years old, that's probably what to expect...and not that far off from Mallex Smith (.254/.319/.345).

The Sox also received 18-year-old prospect RF Garrett Reyes. Garrett has a strong, if erratic, arm, above average speed, and a bat that's trying to decide if it was to be a power bat or a contact bat. What he doesn't have is range, a clue on how to hit RHP, and consistency against LHP.

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

              July Report

              Standings

The Sox currently enjoy a 6 1/2 game lead despite a late July slump. Fortunately, the entire AL East went into the doldrums, so it didn't hurt. The Sox are just 4-6 in their last 10 games. That could have gone much worse, but the entire division is 4-6 in their last 10 games!

              Team Performances

Stephen Piscotty has leapfrogged Joey Gallo for the team WAR lead among hitters. His OBP has really made a big difference, currently sitting at .424, but the slugging isn't too far behind either, especially considering he has half the home runs of Gallo.

Gallo has starting to slow down, partly because he's starting to get pitched around more, even with Sano behind him. Gallo's walk rate is up to 10.8%, which is limiting chances to do damage, though helping his OBP. The other part is that Gallo's batting average has slid in July, now under .300 for the first time in a while.

Also making a charge is Addison Russell. Scouts seem to be correct in thinking that another leap forward was in the cards. Russell's up to 3 WAR now, putting him easily in the top levels of the team in that category. His average is up to .280 and he has 11 HR and, like a lot of his teammates, has matched his doubles total from last season.

On the pitching side, not much to speak of aside of Chapman continuing his ridiculous season. He has his ERA down to 0.56 and still has not allowed a home run yet this season.

Chris Sale does deserve some mention for his hard-luck July. He lowered his ERA down to 2.36, but had just a couple wins to show for it in the month. This has been something theme for him thus far as he has just 8 wins despite the stellar ERA. Meanwhile, Taijuan Walker is 13-1 with an ERA at 3.65.

              Rosters and Lineups

In light of Russell's progress at the plate, he was moved up to #2 in the batting order. Stephen Piscotty was moved from #2 to #1.

That pushed Jorge Mateo down to the bottom half of the order along with fellow speedster Delino Deshields to try to spark the bottom half of the order. Kike Hernandez is batting 9th to perhaps link up with Piscotty and Russell and provide them more chances for run production while hopefully also getting chances to take advantage of Mateo and Deshields.

John Farrell is also trying Russell as #5 vs LHP, moving Gallo to #6.

As expected, Mallex Smith was sent to Pawtucket once Buxton was cleared to play. For now, Buxton remains on the bench. He might be used as a defensive replacement late for Hernandez in RF.

Yusniel Diaz cleared outright waivers and was removed from the 40-man roster.

Dylan Bundy's resurgence has the team pondering returning Rule 5 selection P Ariel Pena back to his former club. Pena has been terrible with a 7.82 ERA this season.

              Player Development

Ken Kojima is showing some worrying signs in his early attempt at AAA competition. His ERA is 8.51 since arriving at Pawtucket and scouts are considered about his location within the strike zone. If this continues, the organization will have to consider returning him to Portland.

Kodi Medeiros is hitting some bumps still in AA, but scouts are more positive on his progress.

"He's just having a lot of bad luck in my eyes, " one scout spoke, "He's doing good things out there. The results are just lagging right now."

Medeiros is down to 5-10 and the ERA has broken over 4.00 for the first time this year, so the concern is building a bit though his scout grades are still gradually improving.

Juan Francisco wasn't traded despite looking like a juicy target for some teams and the thinking is that he has to be close to sticking at the majors. Scouts love his power against RHP and think he could, at the least, be a fearsome PH. DH will likely remain the province of Schwarber, but Francisco could help the younger slugger stay fresher or perhaps facilitate a move to catcher.

Scouts are doing a lot of backtracking in regards to Miguel Sano. It doesn't help that Sano himself is having a "down" year, at least compared to his amazing season last year. His .282/.356/.524 line is hardly bad, but it does pale in comparison last year's run for the Triple Crown. It's hard to say if Sano has gotten any worse or if the expectations got too high, but he will be watched closely.

                White Sox Make Final Trade
                Niese to Nationals

Fitting that the White Sox made the final trade before the deadline. This one was a more minor one, and maybe a "we know Niese isn't this good" one.

They send Niese off to Washington and get RP Fernando Salas in return.

Salas will help bolster the ChiSox bullpen. He's currently sporting a 2.34 ERA and looks to have the skills to keep that going for the rest of the season.

Niese has a 2.30 ERA but seems to playing far over his head. This could be a good move for the White Sox while at least the Nationals didn't make a big bet in case Niese does come back to earth.

                Wittgren Claimed by Rival Rays

The Red Sox had to place RP Nick Wittgren on waivers to make room on the 40-man roster and he didn't make it through. The Rays claimed the young reliever. The loss is not too big for the Red Sox, but perhaps more unexpected that he was claimed.

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Currently running two franchises and they are both Fantasy drafts. I have a Colorado Rockies Franchise with Kershaw/Stanton/Fowler that is in early May sitting at 20-9. Then I have this newer franchise that I recently drafted with the San Diego Padres that are currently sitting at 9-2 after a 7 game win streak. I drafted some of the same players on both teams, mostly guys that I feel are great value guys that you can get in later rounds that I happen to do well with. Also 2/3 of my big three in the bullpen I drafted in both. I'm really big on the back end of the bullpen, maybe it's the Yankee fan in me. I usually skip over the big name closers that go in the first few rounds, and I grab my big 3 in rounds 7-9. I grabbed Betances/Miller and Hochevar and they have been deadly the first 11 games. I have a great record, but we have played a lot of close games. In the 9 wins, I already have 7 save opportunities and Betances is 7/7. The trio has combined for 19.1 INN, 1 ER, 30 K and just 2 BB in getting 9 Holds and 7/7 saves.

My 3-4-5 hitters have really carried the team so far. That is made up of Trout/Davis/Bruce. They have combined for 17 HR and 40 RBI in just 11 games! That is out of my teams 20 HR and 55 Runs scored so far. Huge production from them so far including the best start for a power hitter I have ever had in any franchise so far. Jay Bruce is hitting everything out of the park. In 11 games his numbers are .425, 10 HR and 19 RBI!!! He has a 1.225 SLG, 1.667 OPS and a 1.41 WAR in just 11 games. Somehow Christian Yelich of the SF Giants has a higher WAR of 1.48! Totally nuts. Also Miguel Cabrera, drafted by the Red Sox is keeping pace in the HR race as he has slugged 8 HR already for the Sox including a 4 HR game!

I've also had a great start from Danny Salazar who is absolutely a legit Ace who I was able to grab in the third round. In 3 starts he is 3-0 with a 0.42 ERA
                  and a 0.56 WHIP. 21.1 INN, 21 K, 1 BB.

This team Is a lot of fun so far and. Great combination of Power, speed and power arms(early season our pitchers lead MLB in Ks). After just 10 games we were offered a trade from the Mariners and we decided to accept. They offered 29 year old 1B/C Carlos Santana straight up for 27 year old Rookie catcher Kevan Smith who was our backup for Contreras. Santana brings us a much better bat and versatility being a Switch hitter as well as a very good glove who will be able to play some 1B for us as well as some time at C. He got 1 PH AB in the first game with us and he hit an Opposite field HR! Welcome to the team Carlos!

The Red Sox have placed Ariel Pena on waivers for the purpose of offering him back to his former club.

His ERA climbed to 8.63 and the Red Sox decided it was time to pull the plug.

Finnegan returns to the majors to work in long relief to see if that can't get him back on track.

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Finished April in my Padres franchise(don't judge me I play a lot on weekends when I have no plans Anyway here's the numbers:

                      Team
16-8 record. 1st place in the NL West by 4.5 games. The rest of the division has losing records. After starting off 11-2, we lost 5 of 6 at home to the Pirates and the red hot Cardinals(we are 6-6 at home). We just couldn't do anything. Bats went ice cold and our pitchers became human and started giving up runs. We finished the month winning 4 of 5 vs division rivals(we are 11-3 vs division). A few games before the month ended I had 7 position players who were on cold streaks. We had a few good games and now we start May with 4 players on cold streaks. As a team we ended the month Batting .243(24th), scoring 112 Runs(t-6th) and knocking 36 HR(T-2nd). Our pitching staff was the best in the league posting a 2.92 ERA and striking out a league leading 230 batters.

                      Pitching
Danny Salazar had the best month among our starters, although they all did very well. He finished 4-0, 34.1 IP, 35 K, 3 BB, 2.10 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and is currently in the early league lead for Cy Young. The big three in the back of the bullpen continued to dominate. Hochevar/Miller/Betances combined for 1-0, 36.2 IP, 51 K, 7 BB, 3 ER, 12 Holds and 12/12 Saves(all Betances). DOMINANCE. I hope they can keep it up!

                      Hitting
Although things cooled down big time after the record setting hot start by Jay Bruce, my big three in the middle of the lineup still finished the month with huge numbers. Trout/Davis/Bruce finished the month with a combined 28 HR(28/36 team HR) and knocking in 74 runs! Bruce, .318, 12 HR, 29 RBI, .812 SLG, leads the league in HR, RBI and SLG. Trout is having the best all around season so far hitting .341, 7 HR, 19 RBI, 28 runs scored and 11 SB in just 91 ABs. Bruce has the edge for now in WAR, but I expect Trout to surpass him in the near future as he is just well, he's Mike Trout.

                        Rumors

Phil Gosselin seems likely to be moved - sooner than later. Gosselin is not producing at the plate ( .22) but his defense - or lack there of is the motivating factor.

Gosselin may just be over matched as an everyday starter - but even the routine play has become nothing but routine. Look for news after this series

The Indians were unable to sweep the M's although Colon pitched 8 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned). A 9 game road trip is next up.

                          Rumors

League sources say the Indians did in fact start calling teams inquiring about interest in Phil Gosselin. One deal that maybe should have been made but wasn't - Phil Gosselin & Matt Reynolds for NYM - Justin Turner. The tribe has decided to hold firm and live with that they've got.
*tommy la Stella is performing well in the minors, and might be called up to let Gosselin go get his mind right and work on his glove game.

                          * Brian McCann was given a day off for the first time this season, allowing Trevor Brown some time behind the dish. Brown went 0-3, but threw out 3/3 base runners. Two of them being Mike Trout (once attempting to steal 3rd) and Lindor (also attempting to steal 3rd)

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

I have neglected my updates here (because I am playing the crap out of my franchise with any spare time I have).

Needless to say we finished with the best record in baseball (along with the Texas Rangers).

The post season is in full motion as we ended up facing our division rivals in The Pirates in the NLDS (they beat our other rival The Cubs 2-1 to advance).

The Pirates stunned us in game one 4-1. We left 13 men on base and could not push across runs early and often to put the game away. Danny Salazar pitched 7 strong innings before leaving the game with a sore forearm (he is ok). Then the flood gates opened and we lost the game.

Game 2 was one for the ages. I highly recommend you visit my twitch channel and watch the replay starting from the bottom of the 9th. Forget everything that happened before it. Because this would not be decided till the bottom of the 21st inning!!!! It ended up being nearly a 3 hour marathon of a game for me.

Down 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 9th the Cardinals managed to push across 2 runs to tie the game on a bases loaded walk and then a passed ball. It was wild.

The Pirates would then take a 4-3 lead on a Justin Bour HR. Enter Starling Marte who at this point was 0-5 for the Red Birds. He would then bomb a change up into the left field seats to again tie the game.

10 pitching changes later for both sides it came down to the bottom of the 21st. Rookie Jacob Herzberg get's on with a lead off double. Pitcher Carlos Rondon bunts him over to 3rd. Then Marte get's up one more time.

MOON SHOT UPPER DECK WALK OFF HR.

Series tied 1-1 heading to Pittsburgh.

The Cardinals would then sweep the Pirates on the road to take the series 3 games to 1.

The Mets on the other side swept the Giants and the NLCS stage has been set.

Game one was a blowout as Danny Salazar pitched 8.1 scoreless innings and the Cards win going away 8-0.

In the AL The Royals are facing the Rangers in the ALCS.

I promise to give a end of the season statistical update and top 5 performers/awards. The Cardinals had some decent representation with a few awards as well as great statistical seasons. I look forward to sharing that with all of you.

Year One was a rousing success and the World Series Dream (and a "white whale" for me as I have never won a World Series yet on any version of The Show incredibly) is within grasp. This team is rolling now since that dramatic game 2 win in the NLDS.

Just the most intense, incredible game I have ever played on The Show.

Some things I am thinking about heading into year 2 regardless of the post seasons outcome are a few tweaks in the bullpen but also a few major decisions in regards to contracts for a few players.

2B - Yoan Moncada is the future but right now fellow rookie Jacob Herzberg has caught fire and is starting in the post season. The soon to be 20 year old phenom has found his stroke at the dish and defensively is as good as Lindor at SS and a better all around defensive player than Moncada at 2B. However his power is below average. He is a gap contact hitter and an elite base stealer. He can play a very good OF at any of the spots (his best would be CF or LF). The thinking in the front office is to take a look at both Brock Holt and Ender Inciarte and decide which direction they will go in. Enciarte has a big expectation to be an everyday player (and he is in the post season playing CF), Brock Holt's expectation is to be a platoon player (and he is very valuable in that he can play 3B, SS, 2B, LF, even 1B in a pinch). If Inciartre's demands are too high the thinking is the team will let him walk and retain Holt. That is really the only big question mark heading into the off-season. The team is young, playing great and looking like a dynasty.

In the bullpen the Cardinals will look to make a splash in the off-season and go after a hard throwing lefty or righty to compliment the dominant Betantes. Either via trade or free agency, GM Michael Sword wants to get stronger in the bullpen.

I will report back at the end of this week with a full recap of Year one and post season recap as well. I also encourage checking out the streams of the post season (available on replay as well) as we have been having riveting games and a good time chatting live. Be forewarned though I have a filthy mouth and will cuss when things don't go well LOL!!! The intensity in the playoffs is crazy for me. I played every game of year one....162 games. So I am invested. Heavily invested indeed!!! This team has been a joy.

Year Two I will move to a "play one sim 2 model" on non divisional games. But with a caveat. If I win I keep playing till I lose (never mess with a winning streak). Even though we have Y2Y, I want to get through two years with this team before 17 drops. Plus I will be going back to my 1987 Yankees Year 2 franchise after the conclusion of the off-season of this franchise.

Fantasy Franchise has been a huge hit for me this season!!!!

21 innings! That's crazy. I've had some long games but never broken 20 innings.

Crazy stuff. Everyone had to be exhausted after that.

I hope you get that World Series. It's an awesome feeling to win one. I still get excited when I pull it off. I hope you can get your first. You're like Don Mattingly - played hard and professionally and didn't get any rings.

You're not kidding man. I was also mentally exhausted.....but I was so pumped I went straight into game 3 at Pittsburgh and kicked their ***. Momentum is a beautiful thing. Plus it was also a reward for the viewers who hung the entire game with me (we had 4 or 5 watching). It was crazy. My son and my niece ran into my den after Marte tied the game in extra innings...they were like "what happened"? I was screaming like a banshi after he roped that solo shot. You can hear it on the stream LOL.

I had to mute the headset for the game winner as I had to contain myself (the entire house went to bed and I did not want to wake them up lol).

What is crazy is in game 3 Kenta Madea lasted just a 1/3 of an inning as he injured himself in the bottom of the first (gave up a 3R dinger to Seager to boot) and Chi Chi Rodriguez came in and shut them down. Amazing job out of the bullpen. Then Carlos Rodon threw a gem to close them out so the bullpen can rest (except for Betantes). Just an amazing series!!! One for the ages in my experience with The Show.

And yes. As far as winning a World Series....it is a huge 800 pound gorilla for me. I won 2 straight (and went to 3 of them) in 5 full seasons on MVP 2005 (PS2) with the Florida Marlins. Ever since switching to The Show (2009) and playing exactly like I do (you know my style of play), I have been to several ALCS's with the Yankees (2009, 2011, 2012 with the 1994 Yankees, 2015 1987 Yankees Wild Card game) but I have yet to break through to the Fall Classic. This is without a doubt the best shot I have had since the 1994 Yankees on MLB 12 where I had an amazing season (102 wins) but got destroyed and swept out by the Go Go White Sox...it was depressing (Knights TBTC roster from that version). And keep in mind...I play every pitch of every game. It's a grind much like the real regular season and the highs and lows are all felt. But this "year one" has been a dream so far. It's the 2nd best regular season record I have ever had on this game too. 96 wins. And it could have been better, but once I locked up the division I used a lot of my September call ups to get them reps and rest my starters and guard against injury heading into the post season. I think if I had kept them playing I would have won at least 100 games.

I will keep you guys posted game by game here the rest of the way!!! Game 2 of the NLCS vs The Mets will be this afternoon around 5PM EST. You can also watch it live on twitch!
