Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread
Last night I did my FINAL Fantasy draft for '16. I am using the Braves for the first time ever and I also plan to make this my first ever carryover Franchise once '17 comes out! I'm excited to use them in the first season playing at their new park in '17. I went hard on position players early, but I put together a decent pitching staff. These were my top 10 picks and what position they will play:
8th overall Draft pick:
1- M. Machado(3B)
2- Cargo(LF)
3- F. Freeman(1B)
4- C. Archer(SP)
5- A. Russell(SS)
6- M. Stroman(SP)
7- Y. Moncada(2B)
8- K. Schwarber(C)
9- T. Rosenthal(CP)
10- J. Heyward(RF)
As I always do I tried to draft a balanced offense of RH and LH hitters with power and speed with a lot of young players and a few vets mixed in. In the process I also happened to pick up some very good defenders. I think Archer can be a legitimate ACE, even though he isn't one of the TOP tier guys. For the 4th round I think he's a steal. I usually take one of the higher ranked relievers as my closer(8th or 9th round)instead of using a top pick on a top tier closer. Rosenthal was a very good closer a few years back and his attributes are still very good.
I kept a few Braves on the team, Freeman(first time I've ever drafted him)and Shae Simmons(RP). I also have their young pitcher Aaron Blair down at AAA and I've brought back Jason Heyward to the A T L. I also have some other very good young prospects that I will hopefully get to see develop over the next few seasons.
The Centerpiece of course is Manny. I've never used the Orioles and this is the first fantasy draft where I took him so I am excited to play with him and see what kind of freaky numbers he can put up. When he's due for a contract I know it's going to be a massive one, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Cargo is one of my absolute favorite players in the Show. I absolutely rake with him at the dish. He's signed through '17 so at least I know I'll have him for two years and then I'll see what he's demanding.Comment

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread
In light of all of this baseball fever, my final draft of the show 2016 took place last night. After much debating I have decided to carry this team over into 2017, and draft a second team (the Royals) once the OS rosters drop in 2017. Anyway, I am more than pleased with the outlook of this roster, although there are some obvious problems (age). Anyway, here goes:

Big League BreakdownSP: The rotation is certainly a strength, as not many teams should be able to match up with the Phillies 1-2-3 punch. Anderson is a bit of a wildcard and could prove to be a big difference if he stays healthy. Stripling is the lone player to crack the roster with rookie status, and will look to give solid innings in the 5 spot. The big con going forward is Greinke & Hamels long term deals as they are already 32. If the Phillies can get 3 years of above average / great pitching from the duo they will be satisfied.
RP: The bullpen is another source of strength for the Phillies heading into the season. Greg Holland will close games, with Will Smith & Tyler Clippard sharing the set up duties. Trevor Gott & Nate Karns are the youngsters in the pen, with Rodney & Cotts hoping to sip from the fountain of youth.
Lineup The Phillies took a pin point approach in drafting their offense. Veterans like Jones, Lucroy, & Dickerson will be key to the offense rolling. Castro, while a veteran of 6 seasons, will pair with Greg Bird to hopefully build a foundation for the future of the team. Healey & Hardy will look to provide solid defense and decent bats at the end of the lineup.
GM's Thoughts"As we drafted this team, we drafted with the mindset of we want to win 2 out of the next 3 world series, and I honestly believe we have the talent to do it" said first year GM Joe Smith. The young GM did not shy away from criticism of his teams construction, and was more than happy to tell anyone who would listen, "This team is going to play the game right, were going to pitch deep into games, were going to play defense, and were going to move runners along." Only time will tell...

Phillies Drop Opener, Win Series
The Phillies were unable to do anything against Masahiro Tanaka on opening day. 4 Early runs proved too much for the Phil's to come back from, as Grienke was saddled with his first loss of the season, with a score of 4-2.
Game 2 was completely different, as the Phillies bats EXPLODED to the tune of 16 runs! Reds starter Matt Harvey was chased after the 3rd inning, having given up 7 runs. Cole Hamels, Nate Karns & Trevor Gott combined to allow 1 run as the Phillies bats came to life in a big way.
In the rubber match, Rick Porcello was brilliant, going 8 innings, allowing 2 runs and striking out 11. Reds starter Steven Matz, also only lasted 3 innings, as the Phillies bats once again were rocking to the tune of 7 runs.
Next UpThe Phillies (2-1) travel to New York to face off against the Mets (1-1) before beginning a 10 game homestand. Heres how the Mets look.
Pitching Matchups (Mets on right side)

4-2 On The Road
Sunday wound up being the Phillies second rubber match of the season, and once again they came up on top. Heres a recap of the series.
In game 1 Brett Anderson pitched the way the Phillies hope he can pitch all season long, going 6 innings and only allowing 1 run. Unfortunately he did not get the win - as Tyler Clippard gave up a 2 run bomb to Evan Longoria to tie the game. Clippard and the Phillies wound up with a Win though, and Greg Holland earned his first victory of the season. Final Score 5-3 (W)
In game 2, the Phils were not nearly as fortunate. Ross Stripling gave up 6 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings, en route to the loss. The lone bright spot for the Phils was Greg Bird launching 2 homers in the loss. Final Score 7-4 (L)
The Phillies were confident going into game 3 of the series with Zach Grienkie on the mound. Unfortunately for Grienke, he will have to wait until his next start for a chance to earn his first victory of the season. Greg Holland blew the save in the 9th, only to earn the win thanks to Adam Jones first home run of the season to start the 10th. **Milestone** Starlin Castro entered sundays game with 999 hits, and promptly slapped the first pitch of the game into shallow center earning his 1000th career hit. Castro went 4-4 with a BB.Final Score 3-2 (W)
Root Root Root For The Home TeamThe Phils are back in the city of Brotherly Love, ready for a 10 game home stretch. The Padres (4 games), Nats (3 games) and Mets (3 games) will be the visiting teams during the homestand. The Friars come into the series with a 2-4 recoto start the season. Lets take a look at the pitching matchups, and Friars lineup.

GM 3: Brett Anderson (0-0 1.50) vs Lance Lynn (0-0 3.00)

Early Trade
In a shocking turn of events, the Houston Astros struck an early season trade, with the A's. The Astros sent SP Brent Honeywell (R) & CF Curtis Granderson (L) to the A's in exchange for SP Doug Fister (R). It is fair to assume Granderson will be playing Left Field, as the A's just suffered an injury to Michael Saunders. A.J. Pollock & Bryce Harper make up the rest of Oakland's Outfield.Last edited by J_smith2190; 02-19-2017, 02:23 PM.MLB The Show 20

Do you know what direction you want to build your team ? I usually pick a stadium based on my draft strategy When I want to build a team purely for power offense ( first 8 picks hitters ) Colorado, if I want to dominate pitching wise and play small ball usually big stadium like padres or giantsComment

Well the Astros would work in that case. But judging by your name, if you're like me you won't play with them because it's your favorite team. In that case, Tampa, Seattle, Rangers, Rockies, Padres & Stros are the teams that have never won a WS. Indians & Twins have some nice alt red unis tooMLB The Show 20

I ended up going with the Colorado considering they have never won a World Series and the purple unis. Here is the lineup I'll roll out there.
CF Mookie Bette
3B Yulieski Gurriel
RF Giancarlo Stanton
1B Chris Davis
LF Marcell Ozuna
2B Javier Baez
C Willson Contreras
SS Murcus Semien
Bench
Luis Valbuena
Kike Hernandez
Chris Stewart
Lonnie Chisenhall
Makes Smith
A pretty versitle and powerful lineup, really right handed heavy. Defense should be pretty decent as well. However, my starting pitching isn't so great.
Aaron Sanchez
Lance Lynn
Dylan Bundy
Drew Hutchinson
Daniel Mengden
Bullpen
Juan Nicasio
Mike Dunn
Cam Bedrosian
Heath Hembree
Steve Chishex
Corey Knehel
Cody Allen
Overall I feel like this team should be competitive all season and if we are I'm sure I'll make trades to improve.Comment

First Month - First Place
The Phillies enter May atop their division with a 1 Game lead over the Nationals. A rubber game against the Indians will being the month, prior to a 11 day / 10 game road trip.
Although the Phillies are sitting atop the NL East, all is not well for the Fightin's. A 2-4 record against the Nationals is the major concern. If the Phillies cannot figure out how to beat the Nats, it may turn out to be a long season.
Rookie starter Ross Stripling has been struggling mightily, but the Phillies brain trust has decided to keep sending him to the mound every 5th day to work through his problems.
**Fun Fact, Kirk Nieuwenhuis is 9th in the NL in WAR at 1.22 as a platoon player!**
