Another loss. This time 4-1. Ventura struck out 15 and the only run hr allowed was a bases loaded walk to Greg bird in the ninth. This is shaping up to be a rough n tumble season.

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

I've looked at a lot of trade possibilities, and can't find anything pitching wise that attracts me. So here is what I'm thinking:

Thinking about possibly including a pitcher, Trayce Thompson and a prospect for Ben zobrist. This takes care of multiple needs at once, the first being getting rid of Hamels or Peavy (probably Hamels) gives me more versatility and a more reliable glove when Correa or lamehiu needs rest. And gives me a good dh/RF option into next year (Beltran will hopefully retire). Also, this will clear the way for Zach lee or one of my other pitchers, such as Jarod Parker/Chris Divinskie to take over the 5th slot in the rotation, any thoughts?

      PROPOSED TRADE
Twins get: Brock Holt, Jason Hamel, Tyler White
      Astros get: Ben Zobrist
(I have Andy Burns at AAA, to replace holt on the roster)

          ANOTHER WILD ONE

Gavin Floyd pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 runs in the seventh, but left the game with a 7-6 lead. The Astros scored once in the 8th to get a more comfortable lead for Ken Giles. Giles had a runner on base, 2 outs when Adam Jones comes to the plate. Jones had a career game, hitting a solo hr in the first and the 6th, the latter of which was number 200 for his career. Jones also plated 2 on a double in the 7th. None the less, Giles was determined to pitch to him, and on a 2-2 count, gave up the home run that tied the game. Correa led off the ninth with a first pitch double. Thanks to some unfortunate roster construction, Jean Segura was behind the plate, and the next two pitches to Greg bird were passed balls. Correa reached 3rd on the first, and scored on the second and fatal pitch. Astros split the series 2-2.

          PLAYERS OF THE GAME
          Carlos Correa: 5-5 3r, 3 rbi, 3 sb
          Adam Jones: 4-5 3r, 6 rbi, 3 hr

          NEXT UP
A three game series vs Detriot to close out the Homestand.
          Syndergaard (1-0 3.21) v Pomeranz (0-1) 7-20
          Peavy (0-1 9.00) v Pineda (2-0 2.87)
          McCullers (1-0 2.08) v Webster (0-0 8.71)

Detriot has quite the potent lineup boasting: Kipnis, Choo, Goldschmidt, Pollock, Werth, and Russell Martin.

Agreed A&S. I was looking at a way I could possibly do a 5-2 trade and get Kyle Gibson as well. But looking at it, I am giving up too much. Gonna just ride it out.

Another heartbreaking loss. 3-2. This one included a check swing single, and a dribbler that took a bad bounce on the 3rd base bag. Stros lose 3-2. Syndergaard pitched amazing again, but still only has 1 win to show for it. Sitting at 6-5 it's been every other game w,l,w,l all season so far. A decision may be looming to light a fire under the players.

6 runs allowed in the first. Peavy is being traded, at this point for a bag of peanuts. His value can only go down from here

Jake Peavy pitched what wound up being his last game. Lasting 2 innings, and allowing 7 runs on 11 hits. The Astros would bounce back in a big way, scoring in each of the first four innings. Pineda was chased in the 4th, curtesy of 10 hits, and 10 runs. The Todd Father had a 1-5 showing tonight, but got his lone hit at the opportune time, a GRAND SLAM, in what would prove to be a 6 run fourth inning. Brock holt got the start at SS as Correa dh'd, and did not disappoint going 2-4 with a 2 run hr out of the nine hole. The other 10 runs all came off of the bats of the 3-4-5 hitters. Correa went 3-5 with a triple and 3 rbi. Greg bird went 2-4 with 3 rbi and a walk. Scott Feldman earned the victory, and his job as an Astro pitching a scoreless 4 innings in relief of Jake Peavy.

                    BREAKING NEWS

Rumors started flying after Jake Peavy left the game, and disappeared into the tunnel. Brian McTaggart reported during the game that a deal between the Mets and the Astros was nearing, that would have sent Jake Peavy and low level prospects to the mets in return for Jared Cosart. After the game, Peavy's locker was empty, and he was nowhere to be found. When pressed, manager AJ Hinch told reporters "Jake had some personal buisness to attend to".

A unnamed source within the Astros organization told McTaggart that a deal was in place, sending Jake Peavy and others to the Colorado Rockies. For whom, the source declined to mention, stating only that "Astros fans will be pleased".

ESPN's Tim Kurkjian broke the story during baseball tonight. The Astros indeed had agreed to a trade with the Colorado Rockies. The Astros sent Jake Peavy, along with long haired reliever Dale Thayer, and pitching prospect Grant Holmes in return for Clay Buchholz.

Peavy's story is well known. Dale Thayer had proven himself to be a key cog in the stros pen. Grant Holmes, truly is the key piece to the deal, as the Rockies demanded his inclusion in the deal. Holmes is just 20 years old, and boasts plus velocity and may very well be Major League ready by the all star break. Holmes immediately becomes the Rockies #2 pitching prospect, behind Julio Urias.

                    CORRESPONDING MOVE
After sending Thayer to the Rockies, the Astros purchased the contract of hard throwing right handed Chris Withrow from AAA Fresno.

                            Roark's First BoSox Start

His first Boston start wasn't terrible, but he was forced to use a lot of pitches as the A's keep putting together pesky at-bats. In the end, he gave up 2 runs in 4 2/3 innings. The Sox would go on to route the A's 13-3. Julio Urias picked up the win out of the bullpen to go to 2-1. The outburst snapped a 3-game losing streak and avoided the sweep.

                            Jorge's First Homer

Jorge Mateo...what can't this kid do? Well, he'll probably never be a power threat, but he poked his first home run over the Monster in the first inning. It was the first time since he was called up that he got a ball that far as he's a light-hitting hitter usually trying to put one on the ground or hit a line drive.

Two batters in, Ichiro infield single, Mateo HR. Not quite a bloop and a blast, but about as close as two slap-and-run hitters will get.

"What a moment for him, " Farrell commented, "We'll get that ball from the fan that caught it somehow so Jorge can have it."

Mateo has been a constant source of energy on and off the field. He's got Boston buzzing with his aggressive play, walking that edge between putting pressure on the defense and taking reckless chances.

Now, he can add his first encounter with the Monster on the list of things he's done.

                            Mallex Smith Debuts
That didn't take long. One day after being called up, DeShields, Jr. asked for a day off to stretch out his hamstrings. That paved the way for Mallex Smith to get the start in center field.

"I got to see Jorge's first home run. Already special moment for me on my first day as a starter, " Mallex smiled, "I hope to have a similar experience soon."

Well, he didn't get his first home run. But he did get his first base hit on a drag bunt, fittingly enough.

Injuries Threaten to Cripple Boston Attack

May has been fickle to the Red Sox so far. After a good start to the month, going 6-0 on the first week, the Sox dropped 5 of their last 8, and on top of that, serious injuries have struck.

The worse is what happened to DeShields, Jr. He came up gimpy trying to run out a ground ball and couldn't even put any pressure on his leg. He had to be carried off the field, and the worst was confirmed not long afterwards - a torn achilles tendon. He will miss the rest of the season, and the team will hope the injury will not cause any lasting harm.

On top of that, the team will lose Schwarber for a couple weeks. He suffered a finger contusion while sliding at a base. He tried to go, but couldn't even swing the bat without suffering pain, so the team had to shut him down. With Sano already out, half of the team's primary power attack is now on the trainer's table.

The injuries will force Gallo to have to hit against left-handed pitching, something he's not necessarily adept at, especially in terms of making contact at all. The team called up 3B Juan Francisco to help with the DH duties. He'll platoon with Trumbo at DH.

Alex Guerrero was also called up to fill bench depth. Injuries aren't in short supply in the minors either, so the team is fortunate Guerrero was available to go.

Mallex Smith will get more than he bargained for as he's now the everyday starter in center field. The Sox hitters will have to do some adjusting, and the lineup as a whole will need to work together even more than before. The Tanner Roark acquisition will need to pay off now more than ever to help keep opposing offenses down.

Moncada Get's The Call While Inciarte and Lindor Heal Up, Cards Lose 3 Straight Going Down 6-3 In First Of Four As Kershaw Does Enough For D-Backs

"Yoan Moncada was called up from AAA and will get a chance to make an impression"

The Cardinals came to Chase Field looking to snap their first losing streak of the season after dropping 2 straight to the Padres and in the process being held scoreless for 18 straight innings. Ichiro Suzuki got it going with a lead off HR off Clayton Kershaw. However Mark Teixeira answered with a 2R bomb of his own off starter Jason Hammel. Greg Bird would hit a 2R triple off the CF wall (just missing a 3R HR) but it would not be enough. Kershaw ended with a line of 6.2 5H 3ER 3BB 10K to earn his second win of the season. The Red Birds have 3 more in Arizona and look to now snap a 3 game skid. Yoan Moncada was called up after the game from AAA to fill in while Ender Inciarte and Francisco Lindor continue to be on the mend on the DL. News is very positive about Lindor who went down in the second game of the season with a broken forearm. He has begun light throwing as the bone has healed quickly. He may have a re-hab stint down in AAA ball before he comes back to the team. Inciarte will miss at least 2 weeks with a grade 1 shoulder sprain.
