Has anyone found a remedy for these? It's like the auto-animation never catches, and you're doomed. I'm playing some VERY good players now being in the 1755+ rank, and I still see it happening to me as well as my opponent sometimes. It's nice when they stay at first on it, as I do the same.
This game needs a complete fielding overhaul.

Wish I could help - I've not seen it. Is it mostly in online modes? Have you seen it in your offline franchise?
I mean...it should be the same engine...but...who knows."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Does sound like it could be an animation bug as well, though. Either way, I don't have a firm idea on how to eliminate it."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Here is one from a few days ago in my franchise. Nothing about the way Gray acts is realistic at all.

Unrelated but I always "love" how the players don't care about half a bat flying at them. Re: This game needs a complete fielding overhaul.
I too have no issue with the animations and I see plenty of spectacular plays. For me it is all about the double clutches on throws, the lack of urgencies, and the times that for seemingly no reason my 2nd/ss puts the ball in his pocket on a Double Play (which might be something I'm doing). The lack of urgency is just aggravating beyond words when you lose games due to players nonchalanting a ball or taking their sweet time getting off a throw you have had pre-loaded forever. Here's hoping they work on these issues for 2017.Comment

Re: This game needs a complete fielding overhaul.
That is not going to happen. You pull those canned animations out and the sheer beauty and poetry of the game will be nudered and you might as well go back to the PS2 days and play.
There is a give and take with having a game as visually stunning as MLB The Show 16 and I can live with some quirks (which have continually been improved each cycle) in exchange for seeing and feeling a baseball game that almost mimics real life. If the NBA 2K series would do this too.....there would be torches and pitchforks in their community and a massive outcry. The incredible animations in this game is what separates it from baseball games of yesteryear. It's not an easy "strip canned animations and go from there" Your simply telling them let's go back to the stone ages of console sports video gaming. I have played them all (baseball, football, basketball and hockey) through the years (going on 35 years of console gaming now) and give me the amazing visuals and continue to enhance more control in that arena of realism.
I could not disagree with your post more than that.Comment

Re: This game needs a complete fielding overhaul.
at first i thought the new animations were a bit slow but i have learned how to move my players fluently into their next animations without delay or guys holding onto the ball. But I will say that diving animations need work as well as plays along the wall etc.Comment

Completely forgot about this thread. This will address both quotes up top.
Hate to bring up the following again, but let me present you exhibit A (Proyakyuu Spirits [PYS] ) and exhibit B (Jikkyou). I actually had to expand my horizons to fully realize the fact that full control of your baseball player does not require having fluid animations take a back seat. They can harmoniously coexist simultaneously without any hick up whatsoever. I was actually shocked that this was in fact possible. "Sheer beauty and poetry in motion" unfortunately is not what I could use to describe MLB the Show anymore.
After having bought at retail and played MLB the Show 09, MLB the Show 10, MLB the Show 11, MLB the Show 12, MLB the Show14, MLB the Show 16, the same concerns still unfortunately plagues this game (pitching motion, fielding throwing motions, fielding lack of urgency, questionable looking animations that not only affects gameplay, but more importantly simply looks awkward, etc) ....
...and I finally "experienced" for the first time what and how baseball truly feels with Pro Yakyuu Spirits and Jikkyou. All concerns I had with the on-field gameplay of MLB Show were completely eliminated with two international baseball titles. This is heartbreaking because I love Major League Baseball.

Spoiler
Yep, that's one of the baseball games, called either Pro Yakyuu Spirits (or Professional Baseball Spirits). The second one made by the same company Konami is called Jikkyou (looks cartoonish, but in fact a realistic simulation).
I hate the fact that both games are only in the Japanese language and I hate the fact that both games turned my love for MLB the Show completely upside down. Playing MLB the Show now feels like a complete chore. It is that heartbreaking because I love Major League Baseball and my first love was MLB the Show. MLB the Show 09 brought me back to gaming (from the days of NES/SNES) and it is what got me to buy a PS3 and MLB the Show's franchise is what got me to buy a PS4.
Is MLB the Show still the best Major League Baseball game to date? Yes. It is the only one in town.
Is MLB the Show the best overall Baseball game? Sadly no. That crown is taken by PYS/Jikkyou.
Spoiler
Both of Jikkyou and Pro Yakyuu uses the same engine. Secondly, the ball and bat physics is the best I have ever experienced in any baseball game. The "PCI" is the actual size of the baseball bat. You either make contact with the bat on ball or you completely miss. A centimeter off and you're going to swing and miss. It's pretty much on point.
One of the greatest gameplay mechanic comes from pitching for Pro Yakyuu Spirits. Even after the windup, you can still throw the pitch anywhere in the strike zone. You're not locked into the initial location you set. This helps counter those individuals that choose to abuse the bunt.

My life changed once I came across both of these games. I couldn't believe there was two baseball games that is superior to MLB the Show. The gameplay mechanics and actual gameplay is second to none. Nothing feels scripted, ever. You are in complete control of your character. You don't have to worry about lack of urgency animations found with MLB the Show. If you want to charge the ball at the last minute, you can. You are not locked into an animation. You don't get suctioned to the walls. Errors are on you. Errors don't come down to dice rolls. The animations for both Jikkyou/Pro Yakyuu are also superior (check out the pitching motion, the fielder's throwing motion, the fielder's charging the ball, the running motions, etc.)
Bonus: All-star game: Pro Yakyuu Spirits players wear their actual team uniform during the allstar game (and this was done on the PS3). For some reason, it's not possible in MLB the Show.

We have the same problems in fielding we have had for as long as I have been playing the game. There is absolutely no reason for defense on this game to not control well.
It kills me that people are saying they want the game to "look good" over it playing well. If it doesn't play well it's not a game any more. Might as well make it a quick time event game.
I play 90 percent RTTS so I am sure people who play franchise and other modes mabe don't see this as much. When I play franchise I have some goofy things happen, but, not to the extent I see them in RTTS.
Don't get me wrong, I buy the game every year and I play the crap out of it. It is just very frustrating to have the same issues year in and year out and nothing gets done about it.
Stop worrying about making the lighting more realistic and making the game look prettier. Tighten up the controls and make the game play better. Then work on the shiny graphics.Comment

Re: This game needs a complete fielding overhaul.
its almost like the game needs a lot more game testing before it is released. i dont know their schedule for this kind of stuff. but it just seems like a lot of these are just straight up Bugs and are not caught and fixed before the release of the game.Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto Raptors
Las Vegas Raiders

Re: This game needs a complete fielding overhaul.
Pitching and fielding animations need a lot of work. The lack of urgency and double tapping are still a problem and the pitchers throw the ball with their hands almost open. A lot of wind ups are exaggerated or incorrect like Pedro Martinez's on the stretch. It's like a drunk guy waving the ball at home plate.
One year is not enough for these games, so i think they should schedule patches on the season that could address some of this. But who knows? Sony gets our money every year, the games are well liked by the press and the cycle starts anew every year. And those body types....let's not talk about that ridiculous limit of only 3 types. The uniforms look a little plasticky too and the hair options for Road to the Show are abysmal.
Finally the commentary.....wao, talk about repetitive, dull and silly all at the same time. There are a lot of problems since the ps2 days that San Diego Studios have not adressed, it's almost sad...Their graphic engine needs a serious overhaul too. The game is almost never at a stable 60 fps which it's criminal for a sports game....will they address all of this? Probably not until Ps4 Neo or the Ps5....who knows?Last edited by RedSox_Juliox; 08-25-2016, 06:30 PM.Comment
