The real question is why do those player movements look so lifelike in that 2012 video, but we are into 2017 and there have been no improvements to player movements?

I'm the biggest fan of MLB The Show but I got to admit those player animations in PYS sure do look better then MLB The Show 16.

Hopefully someday MLB The Show reaches that level.

I hope their fielding gloves are in the game too. That's what I used when I played.

I'm going to comb through the video again in a little while and see if I can spot anymore new equipment.

Here's another example from PYS and the Show with Yu Darvish. I still think the main difference is the Show not capturing how pitchers tuck their glove in as they pitch and then not getting the finish of the delivery down either.

THIS. Pretty much every pet peeve I've had with deliveries for the past 5 years or so. Even the older deliveries that I liked (MLB 09-MLB 11) seemed to have problems with tucking their gloves in.

Yeah it really is crazy, the direction the pitch deliveries have been going the last couple years is not good. The effort looks poor, extremely poor.

Here's an example,



Look at the glove placement, the Show looks really bad when comparing it to real life. That's Arrieta's delivery from last years game, but according to the streams, his new delivery has the same problems.

Also in the streams though, Kyle Hendricks and Kenta Maeda's pitching deliveries look decent, so hopefully they keep improving.

I do think that since there isn't much to improve upon gameplay, at least anything revolutionary, then hopefully they put the focus on game modes like RTTS and Franchise. I get that Diamond Dynasty is huge for them, but many people only play RTTS and Franchise and those modes haven't changed much for years. I really hope they've made big changes in those modes to make this game actually feel next gen, because otherwise it still seems like the same game from the PS3 era with better graphics and better animation.

I think that the top two modes that they mentioned last year are RTTS and Diamond Dynasty. Franchise is big among Operation Sports posters but not nearly as popular among the casual players.


As for updates, there have been updates. Maybe not the updates wanted but updates all the same.

• Playing all games in a series without returning to the menu evey game was a HUGE update.
• Equipment was a recent update
• Game Breakers, love them or hate them were the big update last year.

We are getting Pave Your Path (PYP) this year and apparently an improved character creator.


I don't play Franchise so I can't really speak to that but RTTS has gotten a fair amount of love the last few years.

MLB 16 The Show PS Live/YouTube/Twitch stream thread

Perhaps this would be a good time to replace that sticky with a MLB 17 the show PS live/etc thread since the twitch streams and other videos are now underway.

I wonder how the Human AI will deal with defensive shifts and the situational awareness over the coarse of the game for the CPU? I know some players will have the horseshoe shift at initial bat, but what about situations where there's players on 1st and 3rd with 1 out? Usually depending on the player, u would have the double play with "corners in" shift. Our with a player that pulls too the right a lot, have the shift both with the infield and outfield move right. What about players with low power at bat, the infield should "play in" and the outfield shallow Most of the time it's set too normal on both infield and outfield with most players. There should be some kind of "inside edge" for the CPU too understand and move players into the right defensive shirts for the right situation at that time. I hope Ramone can give us a update on that our someone from the team, that would be great and really add strategy too every at bat. If not this year, maybe next year. I hope it's this year. Also will the nationals have the correct color batting helmet with the red top and grey bottoms of the Nationals alternate visitor uniform? It's blue with the red brim. Looking forward too the game.
