Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro

So can anyone help clarify if there is a bug or a quirk to the HDR setup? I only had 20 minutes to test the game last night. I don't have a high end OLED but an LG 4k 50" that supports HDR and I have seen how good it can look on other titles that support it. However when I turned it on in the menu of the show, the results seemed to be a flatter image. I then tried changing the intensity slider and it just appeared to get washed out or over exposed. Then I went back to regular non hdr mode and it looked better but I still am not convinced it looked as good as when I first launched the game.

It seems there is some scenario where this happens and I need to relaunch the game to see the effects or at least counteract whatever got messed up? Is this right? Can someone clarify?

    Thanks in advance.

I PROMISE you the game would look better on a standard PS4 and an OLED than with a Pro and HDR/4K on an LED. Either get a pro and an OLED or stick with a regular PS4 and cheap 1080 set. The middle ground isn't too hot.
Oh god....ill keep my Sony z9d thanks

I'm not sure what is going on with some of you saying that HDR makes the game too dark. You guys do realize that HDR makes contrast much higher right? So yeah, some areas are going to be very dark and then that makes you notice the extremely bright areas that much more.

Of course I'm speaking generally here and if something that really shouldn't be that dark is then that's different.

Just wondering though if maybe some of you guys are not realizing that the screen is going to look different overall with HDR.

PS I feel sorry for you guys are not utilizing HDR and giving up on it because it really does make the game a whole different game.

It doesn't on mine. It did with NBA 2k17 but has not on this game. I can toggle it in the menu and see the difference so I know it's not on in auto.

In the tv picture settings under video options do you mean you manually turn it on even though it is set to auto?

Yea it's horrible, ruins the game for me. Suntrust is the only stadium I've played in so far that didn't have it.

Yes. When in auto, it doesn't do anything. I have HDR in the game menu all the way up. When I have my tv in auto, it doesn't do anything. When I turn in on, it works. This is in game mode in the tv.

For whatever reason, Uncharted 4 with dynamic contrast off for me looks beautiful and some other games. NBA 2k17 and the show 17 look almost like there's a dark shroud over it until I put dynamic contrast on low, medium, or high(medium is the best for me)

I have a Sony X700D and used RTINGS suggested calibration settings and the game looks absolutely amazing in 4K and HDR setting at 50%. Not dark at all. In fact it took some time for my eyes to adjust to the brightness. Beautiful game!

Are there any good websites or tutorials on setting up TV for best HDR look? I'd love to find out mine just needed calibrated but so far other games look much better in HDR....the Show just looks overexposed even with the intensity setting at 0.

I thought most scenes in uncharted looked almost identical with HDR on or off.

Horizon is the first/only game I've played that does HDR right. And even so, it still looks better with dynamic contrast at least at medium.

They still have to be rated category high speed (18gbps) for 4k/60 . The HDMI inputs on the TV also need to be HDMI 2.0.

Idk if anyone else is having this issue. I set my settings and save them and it looks awesome I play another game and the visuals go back to normal I have to pause and switch the 4K to high frame rate then back to 4K for it to be bright again. Settings don't seem to save after each game
