Not always. On my lg 4k tv I had lag if not in game mode but game mode seemed to nerf the visuals to the point that i didnt even think it was worth buying the tv. Then i did some internet research and found that its the true motion technology LG uses that causes the lag. I turned that off for my ps4 input and no lag with no noticeable graphics downgrade. So i never play in game mode.

MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro
I have the ks8000 and I'll tell you now. Good luck trying to play the show without gamemode. You're talking about over 100ms of input lag outside of gamemode. That's extremely delayed and is very noticeable for this type of game. There's no way I'd play this game outside of gamemode at all. I'd be hitting foul ball all day no thanks. I always game on gamemode no matter the game on this tv. This tv doesn't degrade the visuals when in gamemode.

Very responsive to input on the Samsung KS8000. Input lag is great for even the most serious gamers. Those who want to use the TV as a PC monitor will also like the multiple inputs and resolutions it supports and the fact that the screen can get very sharp with the good settings.
1080p @ 60Hz: 20.9 ms
1080p With Interpolation: 118.9 ms (soap opera effect)
1080p @ 60Hz Outside Game Mode: 113.5 ms
1080p @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 : 37.8ms
4k @ 60Hz: 22.7 ms
4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4: 37.4 ms
4k @ 60Hz + HDR: 21.1 ms
4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 + HDR: 37.6 ms
Great, even for competitive gaming. Not to say that this TV will make anyone's skills improve but those who like to have every little advantages on their side will enjoy that low of an input lag. The overall experience feels very responsive even for the games that requires very fast reflexes. To get that low input lag, 'Game' mode has to be enabled. When sending and HDR signal under game mode at an 1080p resolution, the input lag is 22.6ms.
You confirmed the numbers from rtings.com.

The show is the only game I've played that I have to use game mode. The show 16 is obviously not using hdr or 4k resolution though. I'm wondering if using game mode while playing 17 will negate some hdr/4k effects.Last edited by ricky24; 03-19-2017, 10:50 AM.Comment

Not sure, but just be sure that when you turn on Game Mode you have entered a whole new set of picture settings. So check and see that HDR is turned ON in the menu after you switch to Game Mode itself before just assuming that it carries over from when you had Game Mode OFF.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I have my movie mode fine tuned to play horizon in 4k/hdr. Hopefully I can just switch game mode on and the show will look good using that.
Then I just have to switch game mode off when I don't need it right?Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro
If I go to Game Mode and enable it, it reverts to a Standard picture preset and it's only the same as the Standard with GM disabled in the tweakable options allowed. Otherwise, the contrast on Standard here might be a different number, say at 100.
So what do I do? I try and copy as many of my picture settings from CAL-DAY to Game Mode's "Standard" that I can. I believe the only thing I really can't get to is the 10pt White Balance, but I adjust as much as possible to otherwise have them match.
So again, when you go into Game Mode, try and copy over as many picture settings from your Movie mode settings, including making sure that HDR is enabled!Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro
No it won't. I've tested movie and standard both with and without gamemode and I've noticed zero difference graphically with 4k HDR gaming. I've done this test many many times just to see for myself and the picture remands the same. There's just less processing in gamemode. For me it's not only MLB I need gamemode on it's also for FPS. With input lag that high outside of game mode you're at a disadvantage and my kills to death ratio suffers a lot.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro
Correct, but again Game Mode tends to have its whole own set of settings. My Samsung plasma has six picture presets (I unlocked two in the service menu): Dynamic, Standard, Movie, Relax, CAL-DAY, and CAL-NIGHT. Let's say I had my Standard preset's contrast on 90.

I got ya. I think what I'll do then is enter game mode on the natural preset and then copy the settings over from movie mode. If I'm understanding you I think this will the the best way to do it. I use the movie preset to watch movies and game without game mode in hdr/4k so I'll just leave that untouched.Comment

You're better off putting it in movie mode first then switching to game mode and copy the same picture settings you use in movie mode. It'll look the same as your settings in movie mode just with game mode enabled. That's what I do.

And then just toggle game mode on and off as I need it? I just don't want to be messing with calibration every time I want to watch a movie. I don't mind toggling game mode on and off though.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro
I could use some help as I am debating about getting The Show 17. I recently purchased the TV listed below. What would be the best way for me to play the show and receive the best experience and benefits? I have the 55 inch model. Also, is there a specific input I should use? I still have the regular PS4.

But if what Artman22 says is correct, it sounds like you are now able to use any preset you'd like and the settings even don't change as a result. Sounds like Samsung wised up this generation.
That all being said, as Artman suggested, if you can use multiple presets and not just Standard, I would use Movie mode as well. More tweakable picture options and already calibrated to how you watch/play all other content already.
I don't have any of these new televisions, so I can't tell you how it works switching from one to the other. I can only reference Samsung's history, having owned six different sets (two LCD's, two LED's, two plasma screens... all different mdoels) over the course of the last ten years.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
