Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro

So I've been looking at 4K HDR TVs, but I decided to stick with my current 4K TV WITHOUT HDR. To those looking to grab HDR, please remember that HDR is going to add 20+ ms to your response time. There are 4K TVs with HDR that with both enabled, your response time is 60+ ms... In a game like baseball, that's horrible. I'll stick with my 4K TV that has the fastest (I believe) response time in 4K at 12.6 ms.

Bought the 65 inch for super bowl and gaming. It was worth every broke penny.

That's a bit of a blanket statement though. HDR on the KS8000 for example adds 15ms, not 20+. On the KS8000 it goes from 22ms input lag without HDR to a reasonable, and very playable 37ms input lag with HDR.

HDR is a game changer in graphical improvement and it is well worth it so long as your TVs input lag stays reasonable I say definitely go for HDR.

In all the benchmarks, I saw an average of over 20 ms added, and didn't see a single fall below a 20 ms effect. Guess I might have missed that one. However, i personally think 37 ms response time is unplayable. I value responsiveness over graphics, but I understand if someone doesn't mind the high response time. The past few years, I played on my PC gaming monitor which was a 1 ms response time, and after that, I could never go back to something as high as 37 ms. Hell, even 12 ms like my TV is a little high for my liking. Lol

90% of my gaming is on a 34" 4K monitor and The Show is smooth as butter. But sometimes I get an itch to play on my big screen 4K tv in the living room. What is the highest recommended input lag for gaming on a 4K tv? No HDR.

Man, I understand where you guys are coming from regarding input lag being a big deal in this game, if you regularly have response time lags of 20-40 ms depending on TV options. I play on a PC monitor with a 5 ms response (60 refresh rate, not that I can perceive higher), and the instant response really comes into play with games like The Show.

You'll enjoy the TV I am sure, just without wide color gamut, there is apparently nothing mind blowing as you'll not receive full HDR. ((According to rtings.com who is a very very trusted source)

A TV's color gamut defines the number of colors, or the range of colors, it can display. It's important to have a TV that displays a wide range of colors as needed.

                  Edit::

I do wanna say that's my opinion of course and just giving all the info I read as I looked at getting a more budget friendly 4K until I did my research, I wanted the full HDR experience which looks like it'll run $800-$1000 unless I catch a sale.
this is what i thought until i talked to the guy in Best Buy. there was a TV that was $1100 that had "HDR". he basically said that HDR is only really HDR once the TV is at a certain quality. I was normally looking at your range too but once he said that i folded and went higher. The one I got was $1,800 but with open box and negotiating i got it down in the $1,300s.

This is a good article on input lag. This article and others I've read say you want to stay under 50ms input lag. But as the guy before you said, some people are more sensitive to input lag than others so you may have to judge for yourself to determine what you consider to be acceptable.

Input lag is the amount of time it takes for your TV to display a signal on the screen from when the source sends it. It's especially important for playing reaction-based video games.

MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro

Guys. This thread has once again devolved into a TV thread. I get that's the whole idea of 4K HDR but there is a tv thread in the entertainment and tech forum. I think we should move the TV discussion there and try to keep this thread on how 4K and HDR directly relates to the game.

And honestly, you will get much better info on TVs in that thread. Basically every question that's been brought up in here has been answered there by very knowledgeable people.

                      Thank you.

I'm sure The Show will look good on the TV I have right now but I want to take advantage of the Pro so I'm hoping to get a new TV later on this year. Only problem is I have absolutely no clue what to look for when it comes to that.

I guess we probably won't get details/impressions of the Pro Mode options until the embargo lifts? Gonna be very interested in finding out what the frame rates end up being

On many sets yes HDR adds more input lag, but you're both wrong on the ks8000 it's 21ms at 4k with HDR in game mode. HDR doesn't add input lag on this set. I play MLB all the time on this tv and it's great for this game. I'm always hitting great on this tv. Also, 37ms isn't unplayable. Most gaming monitors are around 10-14ms input lag. Anything in the 30's is ok but not great.

I had a Panasonic plasma last year and it was 34ms and that was ok and I played in leagues all the time. Of course the lower the better. Once you're in the 40's that's when you'll be affected for games like MLB the show and at times will be late on pitches while batting. Currently there's no 4k tv with 12ms input lag like you say your set has.

The Samsung ks8000 is one of the lowest TVs with input lag. The only tv that I personally know is lower is the Vizio P which is at 17ms but without HDR and only in one of the HDMI ports. Once you add HDR to that set it jumps to 43ms. You're getting wrong Info on your set. I believe you're confusing motion response time with input lag. I don't believe there's a set with lower input lag with 4kHDR than the ks8000 at the moment. What tv do you have?

I had to do this once, haven't needed to do it since. If that isn't done, the background is too dark. This should happen by itself by default.

To get that 21.1 MS low input lag, 'Game' mode has to be enabled should be mentioned. When sending and HDR signal under game mode at an 1080p resolution, the input lag is 22.6ms. So, those with a standard PS4 would actually have higher input lag than those playing with a 4K resolution + HDR.

All of that said, I can't wait to see this running in 4K with HDR. I loved how it looked before, and I'm hoping to see the differences this year. I hope you guys get it as soon as possible. My copy hasn't shipped yet, but, I have faith that Best Buy will ship it tomorrow or something.

Edit: Oh, and for those looking for the source on the input lag:
The 4k Samsung KS8000 LED is a well rounded UHD TV that delivers a great picture quality. However, its picture deteriorates at an angle. From the front, everythi...

Just Ctrl+F on your browser and search out "Input Lag" to skip to the section.
I don't have a link but I know Samsung is aware of the issue with the backlight not going to 20 when viewing HDR content in game mode. They are "working" on it.

I've debated between the Hall of Fame edition and the MVP edition and I've decided to use my GCU while I still have it. I pre-ordered the MVP edition for 50$ after using one of my 5$ certificates. GCU FTW! I've been going digital lately but I really want the steel book and I could live without the hat.
