Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro
So I've been looking at 4K HDR TVs, but I decided to stick with my current 4K TV WITHOUT HDR. To those looking to grab HDR, please remember that HDR is going to add 20+ ms to your response time. There are 4K TVs with HDR that with both enabled, your response time is 60+ ms... In a game like baseball, that's horrible. I'll stick with my 4K TV that has the fastest (I believe) response time in 4K at 12.6 ms.

He said on the stream it was "SLOWER" which I took to mean 30fps.Comment

The 4K option is slower I believe.
High framerate option will not be 30fps.

EDIT: I looked it up in the stream, and I was wrong about the frame rates. The Enhanced Visuals option will run the same frame rate as the base PS4 but at 1440p, and the 4K option will be slower than than the base PS4.Last edited by breakfastcat; 03-22-2017, 12:20 PM.Comment

In the stream, they made "Enhanced Visuals" seem like it was a sort of middle ground between the 4k and high frame rate options. I believe it was 1440p resolution with a smaller frame rate boost.

As for 1440p, I forget how it was from last year, but after seeing the bat jaggies clear as day in this year's game, if 1440p can address that then I'd possibly look to that option. Would be a nice cleanup for sure.
Honestly I think 4K is the only one I wouldn't do for the framerate drop alone.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Just makes for the questions regarding how smooth the final product will be as the base PS4, plus how much smoother the HFR boost will be compared to it.

That being said, I think SDS should get some serious praise for deciding to include all these different Pro settings so everyone can get the type of performance boost they prefer.Comment

Same here. I'm trying all 3 modes. I'm sure this game in 4k HDR will look amazing.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro
I think that's what I'm going to do as well. I don't have a 4K TV but I was going back and forth between enhanced visuals and higher frame rate. If the frame rate will be just like the base PS4 when it's on the enhanced visuals mode I'll definitely be using that since the game looked smooth during most of the streams.Comment

If they can pull off capped 30 fps in 4k with no dips, it could be worth trying to acclimate to, but it will be hard to turn down the higher FPS options especially if 1440p provides a decently cleaned up image"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

This is most likely what will end up happening for me as well.

Sure would look pretty in 4k, though, provided your TV/monitor is capable of it.Comment

I'm not gonna say it would be impossible to play a baseball game at a locked 30 FPS (though some would). But frame pacing would be all important if that were the case - it would border on unplayable if there was any "judder" at all when the camera moves.

Im just thinking out loud really, just can't wait to get the game and see it for myself"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."
