Check Fielding ratings when it happens. Every time it's happened to me it's been accompanied by a sub-50 Fielding/Reaction.

Was only able to get one game in last night so can't really judge it right now. One thing I did like seeing though was in the 7th and 8th inning the CPU brought in relievers that made sense. What I mean is in the bottom of the 7th when I was up at bat I had 2 batters batting from the left due up that inning so the CPU brought in a lefty. Same in the 8th I had 2 batters batting from the right side so the CPU brought in a right hander.

re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

Only got a little time in with the game last night. The 3 things that stuck out to me were:

        - Ball physics - as many have mentioned, it's a game changer. I had a few beautiful line drives that curved into the outfield and one that sliced into the left field corner for a double. Very satisfying feeling getting good contact and seeing the different hit variety.

        - New body templates/faces - with the exception of a few players that obviously chose not to get scans, the majority of the faces are spot on. Like someone mentioned in an earlier thread/stream, the eyes give more life to the players this year. They don't have that zombie, dead in the eyes vibe like in years past. Actually feels like you are watching and playing with actual players.

        - Fielding - man, this has been my favorite improvement that I have seen so far. One of my first plays was Jose Ramirez charging in on a softly hit grounder towards the third base line. He charged it, picked it up, threw a snap throw to first just in time for the out. You could feel the urgency from his animation once he went down to field the ball. Another play, had Lindor stabbing one deep in the hole to his right and doing a jump throw and firing a rocket to first for the out. My mouth was on the ground. That similar animation has been in the game before but the way he pulled it off and the snap of the throw to first, made it feel like the play was made by the Gold Glover that he is. It was awesome!

Can't wait to sink more into the game all day tmrw. It's a gorgeous looking game and definitely an improvement over 16. And I'm on a 1080p Samsung with standard PS4. I might eventually get a Pro but I'm satisfied with the improvement in looks with my current setup.

One other thing that I have noticed. I have seen other posters mention some big homerun distances that they are seeing. I don't know if it coincidental or if the dev team wanted to add a little more power so we could see longer HRs in this year's game. But I hit the longest in game homer I think I have ever hit last night with Trumbo in Minute Maid park. He crushed it over the train and out of the stadium for a 487 ft blast. I think it is awesome to see a few of these crushed by guys with high power ratings. I just hope it's not overpowered for some average home run hitters and we don't see those long distances routinely throughout our games. Will keep an eye on this as I play more.

Another solid game from SCEA. Kudos to you guys and thanks for all the improvements in this year's game. It's gonna be another great year of video game baseball!

I didn't know where else to put this, but the dynamic themes are a thing of beauty!! They are 100 x better than anything they've given us in the past for themes.

The game is great as well. I can't wait to get home and play for hours.

Didn't get to play much but I am really happy with how the player models look now the difference is almost night and day from last years version for me. I especially could tell after jumping in and looking at my RttS character which I was finally able to get his body style how I wanted.

Few things I noticed, not sure if HR celebrations is working as I didn't notice my player using the one I assigned to him and is anyone noticed that the Prospect 6 batting stance is glitched ,more so there is an animation issue with it.

Watched a ton of streams and previously recorded games on Twitch and YT for a few days leading up to release, but until you actually have the game running in front of you on your tv, you cant really appreciate what they have done this year. The game has never looked as crisp or as beautiful as it does this year. Really like the menus this year and they feel much more comfortable and easier to get to stuff. Really like that you can go to one tab and see every players moral instead of having to go one by one. I transferred my franchise from 2016 and the game automatically put my players in their updated gear (not sure if this is how it was done in the past) and haven't really seen anything that sticks out as being off through the transfer. One other thing I really, really liked is how fast the simming is done in franchise. Was on the fence about getting this at release this year, but had a ton of trade in credit.......I am really glad I didn't pass on it this year.

This is game is so good that Ramone and the rest of the team can take an early retirement IMO.

                  Played an hour last night.....

                  - Player model wise, a definite improvement. There seems to be a lot more variety as compared to years past. Overall, maybe not to the level of NBA 2K, but very close.

                  - The menus and interface are just so clean and polished. Little things like scrolling down to find the right uniform is much nicer.

                  - I played with Enhanced visuals on as opposed to 4K. The game was very smooth with no frame rate slow downs as far as I could tell. I was unable to switch on HDR, but thankfully my son knows how to implement it. It's an issue with the PSVR and the different hdmi cables.

                  - I didn't play enough to really witness a whole lot of new hit variety, but did hit a few gappers that looked beautiful. Also, I stroked a home run with M. Carpenter that barely cleared the right field fence down the line. Hadn't ever seen that before.

                  - Day games at Busch Stadium are brighter and much more colorful. It really does resemble a broadcast.

                  - Love the MLB network presentation.

                  - The commentary is definitely improved with Harold Reynolds and Dan Plesac in the booth. Still not a fan of how it is all tied together, but it sounds better than the past few years. There's a lot more little things like how how a batter fairs against the pitcher on the mound. Sometimes Matt V will mention it or there will be an overlay. Nice addition for sure.

                  - Played a couple innings at Wrigley and I lined a ball to left and Schwarber lost the ball in the sun. The ball rolled to the wall but was cut off nicely by the center fielder. Reynolds even commented how the sun had affected it.

                  - Finally they have updated Carlos Martinez's face scan!

                  - There's a couple bugs that need to fixed. I had a broken bat hit dribbler down the line in which the pitcher fielded the ball but didn't try and throw to first until it was too late. Also, there's an issue with the overlays of the defensive infield.

                  - They've finally remedied the "lack of" sense of urgency from the infielders on balls hit slowly on the infield. Before, it would result in some infield hits that shouldn't have happened. A definite improved fix.

This game just keeps getting better and better. Visually speaking, this is the most improvement I've seen from this game from a year to year basis. Can't wait to get some more playing time with The Show 17!

Pardon my ignorance, but where do you turn on Enhanced visuals? I'm in Audio/Video settings in-game and I don't see it. HRD is locked for me.

Do you have a PS4 Pro and a 4k TV capable of HDR?

So the show is easily my favorite sports game and so many of the features announced made this sound like the best iteration yet. Let me preface by saying I've had the game since Saturday. In that time, I have seen zero "cat and mouse" gameplay, stealing bases against the AI is nearly the same as 16. Throws are smoother but I don't see guys jogging nor do I see fielders appropriately timing throws. Lastly, while there is more hit variety, fielders still run down most balls. The game just feels too much like 16. Does anyone else notice anything different?

I don't have either. Got confused into the notion that HDR was for the Pro and Enhanced was for the older model.

Thanks for the clearing that up.

Not at all. Granted I haven't had he game as long as you have. I played a game last night before bed, but there were balls hit that I would have gotten to last year and they were base hits this year. I noticed that fielder speed was a little slower too, which allowed for more extra base hits. I was happy when I saw those.

I play probably 75% Diamond Dynasty so last night was very frustrating as I couldn't get on at all and just played a couple play now games and went to bed.

Finally had better luck this morning getting all the pre order bonuses redeemed and actually getting into the Diamond Dynasty mode. Got Arenado as the pack in to my bonus packs so my team is off to a pretty solid start. Got in one full game online that was as good if not better than my best games last year connection wise. Played around on the auction house a bit and upgraded my worst positions with the free stubs. Started another game that was working great with only a couple of little stutters but it looked like my opponent quit after 7 innings since I was up 1-0 and got credit for the win.

I'm back to getting network errors though and can't even start up Diamond Dynasty at the moment. Super frustrating but heading off to work for now and hopefully when I get home it'll be back for good. Really happy with the quality of the 2 online games though so I'll once again be putting a ton of time into DD mode. I'll play a couple games a week of franchise mode once the OSFM rosters come out but DD is looking even better this year and can't wait to really dive in tonight as long as the servers cooperate.

Gameplay is good as ever, and some of the new ball physics are very noticeable, more so on foul balls than balls in play for me so far but it's a noticeable difference from last year. I use meter pitching mostly and it feels pretty much identical to last year. Going to be a long day at work but very excited to finally dive in tonight for a few hours.

DOes the ball seem like it "floats" to anyone else? I don't know how else to describe it but pitches seem slower and more "gamey" from both the batter's box and pitcher's mound. The ball also seems to come off the bat and out of players' hands slower when its in play.
