Also, in 16 you don't have to worry about pitchers getting the hook too early and every player suddenly deciding to juice (too many HR's). I don't mess around with DD so if you're a person that loves that, go for 17. If you're a franchise/RTTS guy, I can't recommend right now.
Are you recommending the '16 that came on release day, or the '16 after all of the patches? I didn't buy '16 until this past January, so I don't know what the game was like at this time last year.

I bought '16 on launch last year and I never noticed much of a change from launch to the last patch. Nothing that was 'game-changing' anyways.

Can't speak for him but after the patches, '16 is a more polished game and in my opinion more realistic. '17 has some good graphic and ball enhancement improvements. In my opinion at this stage with the patches '16 is the better game, but I'm still optimistic with future patches.

But I don't think sliders come into play when you are playing people online do they?

Hmm, that's a shame then. Anyone else agree that this year's version feels more "broken" than last year's at this time?

              No.

I'm able to play the game this year the same that I was last year. Haven't encountered anything in the mode I play (franchise) that would make me deem the game broken.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Yeah, I noticed some more power than last year, but otherwise, I haven't had issues with the gameplay. Starter stamina seems fine, catchers drop the ball a few times but not too often. Overall, I'm satisfied with the in-game gameplay.

So far, I have only played in "play now" mode, so my experiences so far may not translate to other modes.

That said, I DON'T have problems with too many home runs or opponent pitchers being pulled too early or the actual distances of home runs.

I feel silly because I was going to post that I'm enjoying the way the CPU manages the pen this year.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Impressions

I've just had my first experience of a potential stamina issue with a starting pitcher. Playing against the Dbacks, I scored three in the first and ran their starter to a mid 30s pitch count. I then noticed at the end of the first his energy bar was depleted by at least two thirds if not three quarters. They pulled him after one out in the second but I had loaded the bases by that stage which is why I called it a potential stamina problem. Did his energy drop because I lit him up? I've not known it happen in the past but who knows...

I checked afterwards and his stamina rating was 80.

In the same game, the CPU also had the pitcher come up to bat then yanked him before the start of the very next inning.

I should make the point that this was a franchise mode spring training game if that makes any difference.

the ball physics this year alone, are a massive step up, imo.

'16 had issues initially but I agree after the patches - and I think the final one was 1.9 in September - '16 was much better than the current '17.

I suspect the devs are still trying to get human AI and new ball curving adjusted properly.

Just so we are clear. I don't think as a consensus the game is a flop. There are some improvements as with fielding, ball physics. The game will get better. Online play is hyped arcades for me. I'm a franchise season post season player who likes historical play. MLB 16 was my companion/friend so to speak. Naturally the thing I wanted most was customized schedules and divisions. Younger players obviously prefer the DD. That's where the money is. It's still a good game. Just not what some of us diehards wanted for improvements.

Yeah, they look good no doubt; however, that's not enough for me to recommend somebody go out and drop 60 bucks for though.

For me 17 is a massive improvement.

The ball physics are amazing. The way balls hook now forces you to rethink your route to the ball.
The more than 1000 new animations are a big change as well, much more realistic. Game itself plays much smoother too.

Then the graphics : again a big upgrade. The lighting is much improved (again) and makes the stadiums look so much better.
                              Colors are more vivid now.

The commentary, also a big improvement.

Everyone has his/her own opinion of course and that is fine. But i personally do not understand how people can say that it is not much better than 16, or that 16 with patches is a better game.
I really do not understand, but that is just my opinion.

I must admit that i do not play online, i only do play now games and season mode so perhaps that is why we have such different opinions.

Baseball is all about stats, however in Franchise Mode I can't seem to figure out if there is a way to look up team stats and how they rank against the rest of the league.

For example team HRs,RBIs,AVGs,ERA...etc. it just seems like Franchise Mode is lacking some substance. In other sports games you are able to sort through stats and see what teams are leading. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate the help.
