Don't do any training mini games, they give you unnecessary points. and play rtts on one difficulty level higher than you usually do. Also don't use equipment.

For your sliders if you are a pitcher, lower control and consistency 1 notch each. If you are a hitter lower timing and foul frequency 1 notch each.

Also a SP career will advance slower than a position players usually.

Re: Official MLB 17 : Road to the Show Thread

I can't get too detailed with my RTTS pitcher cause I'm bored at work and I don't have any actual stats or info in front of me, but I've got some stories so here goes nothing.

My main RTTS character this year is Xavier Dukes, the right handed starting pitcher hailing from Riverside, CA. Xavier started off as a good at everything, but not great at any single one thing type. Featuring a 96 MPH 4SFB, a late breaking slider, a solid 82 MPH change, and an above average 12-6 curve, Xavier had good stuff and good control over all of it and teams noticed. From what I can recall right this second, the Topps Amateur Showcase was pretty kind to Mr. Dukes and resulted in him going in the 2nd round to the New York Yankees.

After being assigned to play for the AA Trenton Thunder, Dukes was dominant posting a 7-3 record with a 1.00 ERA and a sub 1 WHIP. The Thunder also experimented with sending Dukes to the pen allowing him to pick up 3 saves as well, but ultimately decided his place was in the rotation. After 11 starts in AA, Dukes got the chance to live his dream, foregoing AAA and heading straight up to the Majors to make his first start.. That start was a Sunday night battle against the Red Sox in Fenway. One hell of a game to make a debut.

From what I remember Xavier went a strong 6 innings, fanning a few and picking up the win. Good start to what hopefully is going to be a great career. 5 days later, Xavier made his debut in the Bronx and picked up another win, impressing the Yankees brass and others around the league.. And the city.. A few days later, Xavier was called into the GM's office and was notified that he'd been traded across town and would be suiting up for the New York Mets.

At the time of the trade, the Mets were dwindling, sitting a few games under .500 and quite a few out from the division leading Nationals, it was clear they were retooling to make a run in the upcoming seasons. Either way, Xavier joined what was now, on paper, the best rotation in baseball.

Xavier rounded out the season going 7-1 with a 3.00 flat ERA and a WHIP around 1.15. Solid numbers for an 18 year old rookie, but the team fell short of October and headed into the offseason with some ground to make up.

Fast forward to the start of the 2018 season, the Mets added Brandon Belt, Carlos Gomez, and Mike Moustakas to add some pop to the lineup and bring some much needed offense to an already stacked pitching staff. Now I'm about 8 starts in, with only one of note.

Xavier and the Mets sat around and astonishing 28-8 record as the struggling Marlins came to town. Xavier to this point was only 1-1 through 6 starts, he'd pitched well to the tune of about a 1.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 6 quality starts, but the offense and bullpen has let him down quite frankly. Either way he looked to change his fortunes against the Marlins.

First inning, Xavier makes quick work of the side and the Mets put 1 up for him allowing him to pitch for the win. He did just that, sitting down guy after guy on strikeouts, swinging and looking, easy grounder, and weak fly balls. He was dealing and taking no prisoners. Next thing you know, it's the 7th inning, no baserunners have been allowed for Miami and Xavier is under 100 pitches needing to make it through the lineup one more time to preserve a 1-0 victory. It was clear that today was different though as Xavier cleaned up the final 3 innings in dominant fashion, forcing pinch hitter Jed Lowrie to weakly flyout to left to complete the perfect game!

Xavier became the youngest pitcher to ever go perfect at 19 years of age. The perfect outing gave his season a nice kick start and his next start is again those same Marlins in Miami. Now boasting a 1.05 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP, the key is to keep things rolling and not fall victim to the perfect game hangover.

If you made it through all of this, you're a trooper cause I'm just insanely bored at work and felt like writing. Thanks for reading.

Going to start up my annual let's see if I stick with this one RTTS. My last attempt was as a more top of the order SS/2B, so I'm going a different direction this year. With forced position changes, I'm going to start out as a catcher with 1B as a secondary. I can only assume catcher will get tedious after a while and I'll welcome a chance to play less D and focus more on hitting.

Made my guy a little bigger this time, 6-3 210, and he swings lefty. Profile is good raw power and strong arm with the potential to be a plus bat. By the time I did all the creation stuff and equipment, I only did the scouting showcase. IIRC, I was scouted 40 CON 60 POW 55 FLD 70THR 30 SPD. Next up are the showcase games.

At this point I'm leaning towards college, as I'd prefer to come out a little older and hopefully better. You get a slight attribute bump by going to school, right?

No, just the ability to choose your own team. Which I always do.

Man if my career off to a hot start! I do well in the scout day, then choke in the showcase games. Opted not to sign with the Mets as 5th round pick out of HS, went back to school for two years, and I'm still a late round pick and have D potential, haha.

Does the potential matter? I'm pretty sure it doesn't increase the cost of training. Does it affect promotion/demotion? Can it change after the scouting periods, say after a good season or two?

Or should I bite the bullet and restart? I stupidly forgot to save a backup file after all my customization and before the draft(s).

Potential can matter in terms of where you are on the depth chart it seems but it can go up if you have a good season.

Went ahead with the draft, and it was good news and bad news. I was selected in the 7th round (haa), but by my hometown team, the Pittsburgh Pirates! Starting slowly in Altoona, but my approach is better than it was in the showcase so hopefully it will come.

I'm enjoying catching because I'm familiar with the pitchers in the Pirates system. Still, I wish there was some sort of interface and/or training for handling the pitching staff. Maybe cumulative confidence that works off the individual pitch confidence system that could represent familiarity and being in-sync with pitchers.

Welp, the 2018 World Series Champion Angels just got a lot scarier in the offseason. This team has done a tremendous job of building a team to this level since I started my RTTS.

                  Key/noticeable departures:
                  81 ovr RF Kole Calhoun
83 ovr RP Trevor Rosenthal (had a highly disappointing 2017 with a 4.63 era)
80 ovr CP Tony Watson (was a RP for us, as we have Kimbrel)
                  75 ovr 2B Greg Garcia

                  Key/Noticeable additions:
                  88 ovr 2B Daniel Murphy
                  80 ovr 1B Tommy Joseph (81 p vs r, 92 p vs l slugger)
                  79 ovr SP Andrew Triggs
                  79 ovr CF Adam Eaton
                  78 ovr C Tyler Flowers
                  75 ovr SS Jorge Polanco
74 ovr LF Hyun Soo Kim

                  Got a Jose Ramirez (88ovr) - Daniel Murphy(88ovr) - Trout (99ovr)- Me (94ovr) -Kris Davis Davis(83ovr) -Joc Pederson(82 ovr)-Joseph(80 ovr)-Kim top 8 going on... our number 8 hitter has 89 contact vs righties :3

Versus lefties, Adam Eaton comes off the bench to lead off, with Murphy sliding to #5, and Jorge Polanco with his 90 contact vs lefties comes off to DH

Played through April in Altoona, had quite a few days off due to catching; I wish I would DH occasionally. The bat is starting to heat up with a triple-slash of around 300/400/450; not much power yet, but I socked a few doubles of late. Still looking for that first HR.

In mid-May with Altoona, now playing 3rd base. Made a few nice diving stops & throws with showtime, but not too much action at the hot corner. The position change hasn't slowed down my bat, hitting something like 330/400/550 with 4 HR & 19 RBI. Dynamic difficulty has ramped up to HOF+ so let's see if I cool off as it warms up...

I noticed Cervelli went down with a 1-2 month injury (it's sooo rrrreaallll haa), so the timing of my switch from behind the dish doesn't make too much sense. By rating, I'm neck & neck with Chris Stewart for #3 in the org -- with us being very different types of players, obviously. On the other hand, the Pirates aren't terribly deep at 3B either. If it's my choice what position I play, I'm not sure what I'll pick. Games go quicker at 3B, but I miss calling a game for the young Pirates prospects.

I did a closer for my RTTS, in my second year I went from triple A to double A. That's after I had a great first year. Ugh so frustrating. They didn't use me till the 6 or 7 game. Wish I didn't pick a closer, but I have played all of the games so far so no going back. Weird thing was at end of season 1, it sound like I was going get a call for the majors. Damn you stinking Seattle. Think my stats were 29 saves in triple A with under 3 era.

Who needs pitching in RTTS when you have SIX leading silver sluggers in your lineup? A couple weeks past the trade deadline after we acquired Eric Thames, and we just keep on rollin.

1-5, 7 are leading silver sluggers (I am Dane Marshall). Add in the fact Kris Davis was an All-Star for us and had 105 rbi for us last year, though not having as great a year this year.

Another cool storyline that has developed this season with this is the fact that the Red Sox have 5 leading gold glovers in Holt, Andrelton Simmons, Benintendi, Pillar, Betts

Anyone know if 1 year deals, long-term deals, agreement to much lower pay during arbitration matter? Can the AI possibly see the extra money in the team budget and get better players/talent in the offseason?

Also, has anyone experienced a top player in their lineup actually re-sign with the team when their free agency comes around? They always seem to sign with another team not even 2-3 days after the season ends.
