Re: MLB The Show 17 Q&A

Is there an option somewhere to turn on celebrations? Theyve been advertising the heck out of them being included this year, and there were some additions last year with the on-base after a hit celebrations (stirring the pot, salute etc).... Ive played 6 full games, havent seen a single emotion or celebration yet.

No dugout rituals, nothing on base, no pitcher fist pumps, havent see a single homerun celebration, and they continue to have ZERO animations to indicate the team or individual being excited about scoring a run.

I see they added in the after a win celebration...is that all they were talking about?

So Jump is R1, and Dive is R2 when fielding, right?

If you are using Showtime in RTTS (R2), how do you dive?

I've been watching videos in the media thread...i've watched a few cpu vs cpu games...

Does anyone know if there is anyway to turn off the defensive shift icon/notification and or baserunning diamond this year (was hoping this year it could be turned off as an option, but seeing this in the cpu vs cpu games give me little hope.

I have no idea why the last couple of versions have this showing in a cpu vs cpu game...what happened to the days where it was just the scorebug...takes away from the realism in my opinion (many times i just like to watch a live mlb broadcast game [oops i mean a mlb the show cpu vs cpu game lol] while eating a meal ) The baserunning icon on no doubt foul balls into the stands and on pick off attempts...huh? don't understand that decision

Is there a way to turn off Home Run cut scenes?...i wanna see the fly ball go over the fence for every homerun.

            You cannot turn those off.

That determines the player's jump. So even fast players with a low steal rating will struggle to steal bases.

As for the mechanics, holding the steal button is for manual steal. When doing this, the runner will attempt to steal as soon as you release the trigger. Tapping the steal button has the CPU decide when the runner will attempt to steal. For leading off, the CPU does seem to pick a lot when you take an extra step, which is annoying. I will only extend my lead with guys that have a 70+ steal rating, because they are much less likely to get picked off. I will also try to wait until the pitcher comes set sometimes to take my lead, hoping that they'll be less likely to throw over.

Some tips for stealing.. try to steal when you think the pitcher will throw an off-speed pitch. That takes a little bit longer to get to the plate and is more likely to be thrown in the dirt. Don't be afraid to go back if you think you got a bad jump. In real life, baserunners are taught to turn a bad steal read into a secondary lead, rather than just go and get thrown out easily.

              Hope that helps.
              Thanks this is very helpful.

So it seems like for guys who already have a high steal rating I need to just tap it and let the ratings determine it...and for guys who don't have a high steal rating it would probably be better for me to do it manually since I can probably time it right better than that guys lower rating is going to end up in my favor.

I do already try and time my steals to off speed pitches and I try to just follow logical base stealing rules. If I got a fast guy on first with no outs I am never going to try and steal on the first pitch because the cpu just about always pitches out or slide steps on the 1st pitch if you get a guy on 1st with 0 or 1 outs and say 83 or higher speed. The more fast pitches a guy has the less likely I am to steal...if he got a 4 seamer and a 2 seamer and a cutter then I'm probably not going to chance it...i don't try to steal against relievers ever since every team always goes to the bullpen guy who throws 95 and better...something i wish they would fix in this game but whatever.

My issue is that I feel like I time it right but my guy just gets an atrocious jump on the pitch. Yesterday I got thrown out on a 78 low and away change up running with Carlos Gomez...something I don't think would happen in real life. So when I replayed it Carlos did not even start his running motion until the ball was coming across the plate, so the fact that is was an off speed pitch didn't matter since he did not take advantage of the time it takes an off speed pitch to get to the plate.

Have you missed with the base stealing sliders before? If so did they make that big a difference? I don't want to use them and then the next thing you know I'm stealing second with ease with Adrian Beltre

Dumb question but how do I view my budget in Franchise. I see the screen with weekly cash flow. But what screen do I go to to just see my total budget and available space?

Have people plowed through any of these Team Epic missions? I see that the first mission (Epic I) is about beating the team twice on Rookie difficulty+, Epic II is about locking 15 players and Epic III is about beating Veteran difficulty +.

Do know what Epic IV and V are?

Has anyone had an issue in franchise with SP stats? I played 4 games and noticed that in 2 games my starting pitchers had incorrect stats listed in the box score, team stats and player screen. One game the SP threw 5 innings but the stat line indicated 10 innings pitched. In another game I had a starting pitcher go 5 innings. Stat lines showed 0 innings pitched, 0 hits/runs/etc but he still received the loss and the CPU SP had the same stat line (0's all around) but got the win. The win/loss were correct but both pitchers pitched 6+ innings. Relief pitcher stats were correct but the totals missed the SP stat line. I know one of the games for sure I used the "quick manage" in the middle of the game. Not sure if that has something to do with this or if there is a known bug.

Going through the options/settings last night and I didn't see a way of turning off the homerun celebration cam.

Is it possible to throw 105 with Chapman? I've only been able to hit 101 with him so far.

                          Thanks.

What setting controls the catcher suggestions? For a while, the catcher suggested the pitch and the glove showed for the desired location. Even though I do not remember changing anything (but I obviously must have done something), now I only see the pitch highlighted that is suggested, but not the location. I do not see that glove anymore. The only thing that happens when I hit R2 before throwing a pitch is seeing the suggested pitch, not the location. I have looked but do not understand what setting controls this. How do I bring the suggested location back onto the screen?
