Re: MLB The Show 17 Q&A

With fast counts on the pitchers pitch count on the in game scoreboard graphic shows total pitches.

If you go into pitcher analysis it only shows the actual pitches you see thrown.... does this affect the ball/strike %? Or how they tire?

Another thing. I have manager pull slider on 4 and also see this when It is on 3... pitchers getting pulled in the 5th or 6th inning with 40-50% energy left and have been pitching well.. like 0 walks, couple hits 1 run...

      That's great, I didn't know that, thanks!

It annoyed me that some players have expectations of being stars when their depth guys, or a AAA reliever who thinks he should be a closer.
You have to actually sign them to a contract though, so arbitration or renewal won't work. They also usually want more money to ensure a signing if you do this so it's a bit of a catch 22.

Still I've managed to sign a star player heading to arbitration with the expectation of being a platoon and for only 8.5mil. I was really shocked when he agreed but he is over the moon about playing everyday now, so it is possible.

These aren't based on ratings. They are based on actual stats year to date.

When your in franchise and you are looking at a team and it says Pitching 11th, Contact 10th, etc. My team in my franchise is 27th in contact and my buddies team is 3rd, but when I went through our lineups and bench our ratings are nearly the exact same. His team has slightly more power, but contact wise they are identical, yet it says we are 24 teams apart in ratings. It also said my pitching was 11th in the league despite having only Sonny Gray as my only pitcher on staff over an 80 overall. Then when I signed Brian Wilson my pitching immediately fell to 22nd in the league.

The reason I ask is we play only on Tuesday and Fridays and sim the other days in our franchise and right now my team has lost 18 straight games and been shutout in nearly half of them while his team is playing over .500 in the same span scoring 4-5 runs a game. Something just seems off. We're in August of our franchise and I've made some trades to bring in players and every single hitter that I've traded for had their average drop off 20 points once they became an Athletic. Inciarte was batting .330+ at the All-Star break, becomes and A and is falling towards .300. Tyler Flowers was batting .310 at the All-Star break, 1 month on my team he was a .255 hitter. Brock Holt was batting .320 at the break. Now he's a .280 hitter on my team.

Something seems to be causing my team to play below their ratings at the plate. Last I checked my hitting coach boosted every stat he affected, so I don't understand what the heck is going on. On the reverse, guys I traded away have all seen their averages rise since they were moved. Lowrie, Canha, etc. are all improving from .212 and .230 hitters to being in the .260-.270 range now.

You sure? That doesn't sound right as my team is no better then 20th in any pitching category besides walks yet we are listed as 11th in pitching in the standings screen. This isn't a recent slide either, I'm 87 games into my season and my pitching has struggled for a vast majority of the season.

I was always under the impression that those ratings were team wide taking into account your minor leaguers as well so more as an organization as opposed to just your MLB roster but I could be totally incorrect.

I don't think it does because I have assembled pretty much all A and B potential pitchers that are 18-24 years old. Also, when you cycle to AA or AAA in that screen it'll show your ratings there change as I then have top pitching.

So it's not based on organizational ratings, I don't see anyway it's based on stats for the reasons I mentioned in my previous post and someone mentioned it wasn't based on ratings at each level so which is it lol? Now I got no idea what those ratings are accounting for.

I always assumed it was ratings based until I added them up and saw our teams were near even yet 20 places apart.

I do believe that when you are updating your trade block and it shows your positional rankings that those are organization wide. As for the standings screen, it's that specific level of ball.

I think that what might be the issue from messing with it is that it has a certain formula for those rankings and it's not lenient with it. For example, if you have all 90 overall pitchers throughout your staff, but your closer is actually just a RP then it will knock you down for that. If your closer us an actual CP then the game will rank you higher. This is what may be causing the issue in my franchise. I have Billy Hamilton in CF and Ender Inciarte playing RF while the only true RF on my 25 man is like a 70 overall, so I think the game is having him have more weight in my ranking despite not starting.

I may be wrong, but that's all I can come up with.

No... its not ratings based at all.. Nothing to do with ratings.

1000000% stats. STATS STATS STATS. NOT RATINGS.

Then how do you explain my team being 26th in team ERA, not in the top 10 in literally any pitching category other then walks issued yet I'm "ranked" 11th in the standings screen? I don't see how my pitching can be 11th when we are and have been a dumpster fire a majority of the season according to the stats themselves.

After the first two weeks of the season my team is top 7 in every offensive category, but still mid 20's in Contact and Power. There is no way it is stat based.

What are most important positions to have good players in, when it comes to Baseball? Like QB in Football, or PG in Basketball.

If you lets say could only have 5 good players which positions would you want them in?

It's traditional thinking to be strong up the middle in baseball, so it's never bad to start with good catcher, SS, 2B,CF and a solid Ace on the mound, from there your corners are your usual power positions 1B, 3B, RF. This might be old school thinking though so if someone else knows a better model they might be able to help you out more. Hope this helps as I assume your trying to rebuild a team or something

If you have weekly income of 2m versus 0.2m, does it really matter if you're not going to add to the payroll?
