Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Calm down man, calm down its just a joke.
But come on man you've been around long enough, I know you already know Pablo has no worth. The team that has the biggest need at 3B in MLB is the Red Sox and you're trying to trade him.
His contract alone would scare off most buyers even if he was playing well. That's not even bringing up the fact the he cannot help but to get hurt, after he comes back this year he's gonna get hurt again.
So with his bad play + horrible contract + never staying healthy = no one's taking him for anything. If you really want him gone just DFA him.

But for conversation sake, I heard the new Marlins ownership might look to do a complete rebuild...
(You know where I'm going with this...)
Giancarlo Stanton, what would he cost?
2-3 A's and a couple High B's?
I figure no major league talent assuming the rebuild...
What are we talking here?
(Doesn't necessarily have to be from the Red Sox system, I could always do a 3-team trade.)
This is just for conversation sake, nobody jump on me for this, just enlighten me please [emoji4]Comment

The final deal that was settled on was G.Stanton+A.Ramos for Y.Puig/C.Bellinger/R.Stripling/B.McCarthy (contract relief). The goal being to free up money for the FA class of '19, signing Machado but still have a competitive team in the field to continue to draw fans (as the new ownership will have to do something to reduce the 400mm operating debt they will inherit).
Using this comp, I suppose BOS could put together something like JBJ+R.Devers+S.Travis since you're buying and the Marlins would not give you contract relief but then you run into budget issues when trying to sign Sale to an extension. Realistically, you don't empty your farm for a guy and not try to extend him so it doesn't make much sense. With him and a 30mm pricetag for Price (you're not moving the 9th most expensive contract in sports history), you're going to have approx. 90mm wrapped up in 3 guys and we haven't talked about Bettis, Bogaerts and the 4/56 you've got left on Pedroia as of today (and Pablo but we've beat that dead horse). J.Henry has got money but even he doesn't want the luxury tax penalty.
You're 3 team dance partner would have to come from the NL as nobody in the AL is going to help make this happen. Excluding the NL East that brings the Cubs and Dodgers into play who probably would like to have talks of their own on this stud. Just too many variables to have a 'realistic' conversation.
TLDR...enlightened? I hope so. Feasible? Highly unlikely for the Red Sox."for love of the game" - B. ChapelComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
It's early July and I'm one game behind the Wild Card spot in my Cardinals franchise and it's the pitching that's been keeping us in the game. Our pitching staff's the second best in the league while we're batting worse than anyone else. Aledmys Diaz and Kolten Wong are slashing just .206/.268/.317 and .202/.271/.391 respectively so middle infield is probably a need. Diaz plays a position where good defence would make up for his bat but he's not an elite defender. Grichuk (.231/.295/.454) and Piscotty (.215/.284/.376) are not doing so hot either so I'm thinking that maybe a corner outfielder is an option as well, though Grichuk especially is getting hot and is good for the occasional home run (14 on the season, Piscotty has 11).
When it comes to middle infielders I'm naturally thinking about Dozier (.246/.300/.519 with 21 homers and 42 RBIs) but I'm guessing he'd be pretty expensive. Alcides Escobar intrigues me as well not because of his bat (though he is batting okay with a line of .268/.320/.342 with one home run and 21 RBIs) but because he's a great defender at short. I've been looking at LeMahieu as well, but the Rockies are kind of in it still and he's probably got a big price tag as well.
Outfield's probably not that big of a need but I can't help wondering what it would take to get Khris Davis (.311/.371/.563 with 19 home runs and 47 RBIs) from the Athletics to St. Louis?
Since I'm not giving up many runs but am failing to score, I guess the one's I should be most interested in are Dozier and Davis. Any advice and ideas on what kind of deal it would take to get either of these? I'm guessing I can't get both without completely selling the farm.
Also, in the case I trade for an infielder, is there any scenario in which Wong with that statline can be flipped for left-handed bullpen help? It's the only area in my pitching staff that might need improvement.
EDIT: I'm not really saying no to playing until the deadline and see if Diaz and Wong get hot before pulling off a trade, but still asking what it would take to get those guys in St. Louis.Last edited by mockme; 05-18-2017, 07:26 AM.Comment

Andrelton Simmons (SS) - LAA: Like you said, good defence could make up for an OK bat at SS. Should take a couple decent prospects but if the Angels are out of it, they could look to make a trade.
Devon Travis (2B) - TOR: Can flat out hit, defence needs a little work at times but overall a strong player. If he's doing well/not injured and Toronto is struggling (or if they're in it but have a clear need on the pitching side), package prospects/pitching for him + an Aaron Loup or JP Howell.
Ryan Goins - TOR: Wouldn't take as much as Travis but his defence is top-notch. Flip him for a high-C prospect if Toronto isn't using him.
Ian Happ (2B) - CHC: If you're not worried about trading with one of your biggest rivals, you could make a huge challenge trade and flip Alex Reyes + for Happ. The Cubs really need some controllable pitching.
Zack Cozart (SS) - CIN: Good defender, a couple teams have been linked to him for a while now.Comment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Braves are still upsetting the world of baseball by holding on that 1st place with 3 weeks left on the season with a record of 80-59, 1.0 above the dangerous Nationals. Will they keep the pace to clinch a playoffs spot or fall short of postseason? After all, the season has been a success whatever the final outcome.
This offseason, Braves' GM has big decisions to take since his team did a lot better than expected in 2016-2017. Pitching has been the strongest point, being top in the Majors while offense has been in the lower tier.
With an already young & proven performing rotation going forward, starters for 2017-2018 are the least concern of the franchise (Teheran-Blair-Foltynewicz-Wisler-Fujinami/vet if not ready to handle MLB yet).
Depth at SP is also the strongest asset that we have.
As the GM of the Atlanta Braves, I'm asking you (my assistant gms) how should we handle the offseason. I proposed 2 options (feel free to add yours!).
Plan A : stay put & continue building with a solid prospect pool + rely on pitching to have success in 2017-2018
Plan B : Big splash & get a major upgrade on 3B to boost offense. I'm asking you to provide your scouting report on which 3B could be had.
On the table for now (if you think of other players to include, go for it!)
Ian Anderson
Joey Wentz
Luiz Gohara
Rio Ruiz
Kevin Maitan
Sean Newcomb
Travis Demeritte

Sure you could go expensive with Dozier/Davis (C.Dickerson would also be interesting) but with youth on your side, you don't really need to. Another week or two in your chise will make it clear who is selling and then you can literally have your pick. Think TOR with Pearce/Bautista, maybe L.Morrison (MIA) or even J.Bruce (NYM). These types of guys can be had for minimal cost and if they're hitting, fill the need. They're not a dime a dozen but there will be plenty to choose from.
As far as your loggy, how's Marco Gonzales looking? He has MLB service time so regardless of the roster you're using, he should be there. Ignore his overall and check out his peripherals...you may be able to solve that need in-house. Keep Diaz at SS (he should hit eventually) and just sit Wong on the bench and use him for rest days, you'd have to package a good prospect with him just to move him and frankly, it wouldn't be worth it.
Find a couple of guys that you're interested in after 10 more games or so (Davis is neat considering the history of the Cards going to the A's for a power bat) on the high and low end of the spectrum. This is a fairly easy problem to solve. If all else fails, I don't think there is a MLB club that would say no to D.Perez."for love of the game" - B. ChapelComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
I say make the push for a 3B. I was able to swing a three way deal with Boston and Rangers to get Gallo to Atlanta. Hes been great so far. So Gallo is an option depending on how Texas is doing. Moustakas is an option. Maybe in FA or trade. Todd Frazier is another possibility.
Thanks for the input! I thought maybe Donaldson could be had?
What could be the price for these players (I'm sorry, I suck at putting value to players for the MLB)Comment

Thanks! I'd be more than fine paying Acuna+Anderson for him.
I'll wait to see what others think.. anyway there's some baseball left in my franchise before planning the potential moves!Comment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
I'm very biased on this discussion being a blue jays fan however, I would think a guy who is in the MVP discussion every year and has averaged a 7.4 WAR for the past 4 would need at least a headliner who is a top 50 guy. I'll be honest I don't know lots about these guy but neither made the top 50 in baseball america rankings and neither made the top 75 on mlb.com. Theres a lot of upside there but is it enough for a top 10 position player in the mlb?Comment
