Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

What sort of trade value does Verlander have if the Tigers keep most of the contract?

Looking at moving him to the Yankees for Ellsbury plus prospects, with Ellsbury essentially just being the money ($80m/ 4years against Verlanders $100m/4 years). The way I see it, Ellsbury has no value at all to the Yankees so getting him off the books and only having to pay an extra $5m a year to get Verlander is an obvious win for them, but what do they have to give up in prospects to make it worthwhile for the Tigers?

On a similar theme, I was thinking of sending Kinsler to the Dodgers for Ethier plus prospects, with again Ethier eating up most Kinslers contract ($17m/1 year to Kinslers $22m/2 years). the aim of both trades really is to just get some prospects in rather than cut money, as I know the Tigers don't have what it takes to do both. What sort of return does an essentially cheap Kinsler bring back? (assuming he's batting to his average standard when the deadline comes around)

I don't think you'd get Rios or Stripling for Moreland, much less both and Farmer. They'd just go get Duda or JD for a more reasonable price. Also don't see why Phillies would change course and go all in that quickly. They're trying to compete in the long run, not just now.
I don't know why Farmer is in that proposed deal, I don't remember putting him in there. JD got the D-Backs #4 prospect plus Alcantara, now the Tigers #14 and #23, but the Tigers also jumped the gun a bit, and this was a weak market in real life. Rios is blocked at both 1B and 3B with Bellinger and Seager already there, plus with the outfielders, present and future, Bellinger doesn't have a reason to move full-time out there so Rios is expendable. Either way, I'm already kind of looking away from this deal because of some bigger deals that Moreland could be included in.

When I say all in, I mean where they are playing really well, and only 2.0 GB in the East and tied for the Wild Card, they are going for it. Thompson isn't a huge loss for Porcello who is a Cy Young winner. Ramos was one of the Phillies low rated prospects a year ago who has struggled both in the minors and majors in-game. I look at this as a solid swap if you consider the contract Porcello's on and their market. Even if they don't win, they could flip him next season or in the offseason for even better prospects (so long as he still performs).

      What about the other deals?

Farmer is listed in the deal one page ago. JD got that because he's much better than Moreland. Look at what Duda and Alonso got. LAD wouldn't just move Rios for less than fair value because he's blocked, they could get more for him or use him as a solid bench bat. I suppose Porcello deal is fine, the two bigger deals just don't seem realistic because of all the moving parts. Those deals rarely happen. I'll take a look at the others.

Abad for Kelly is fine, they actually recently released him in real life. You could just give them a nonprospect for him. Don't get the Pomeranz deal, basically all of the guys you're getting back are nothing more than long men of bench guys. Peterson and Bergman recently DFA, the others recently moved for minor returns. The Leon deal depends on how he's playing. I don't see Houston really needing Hanley, much less giving Moran for him. Gant for Young seems fair enough value wise, but why do they need him? They've got Fowler, Pham, Grichuk, Piscotty, Martinez, and Sierra.

IMO as much as the Yankees want Ellsbury off the books i don't feel like Verlander wouldn be a player they'd want back now that they scored Gray from Oakland. Their rotation being Tanaka, Sevy, Gray, CC, Garcia i don't see where Verlander would be worth it with his age and contract, especially if they gave up prospects. But anyway assuming they'd do that I don't think Detroit could score more than a pretty good B and a couple low C's or a like two B-'s.

I think Farmer was put on there by accident, I think I was looking at him before but didn't mean to actually put him on there. I understand JD is a much player than Moreland, but in real life, in-game, JD is batting .237 with 12 HR, and Moreland is batting .285 with 23 HR and 3rd in baseball with 26 doubles. But like I said before, I was already kind of moving away from this deal.

With the Pomeranz deal, I was going with quantity over quality, and with how a lot of people view Pomeranz, I didn't target any real top prospects. Peterson is still a good prospect in-game, and Casteel was a AA all-star in-game (not that means much). Bergman or Heston was more to fill the starting void of Pomeranz.

Leon is only batting .243, but thats still better than Weiters and Lobaton, plus he's been getting on base, not striking out a ton, and has been excellent behind the plate. Plus he has two more years of control for cheap money. Taylor and Romero have both struggled in MLB and AAA respectively.

Piscotty is injured for a while, and the others have struggled bad, so Young would give them some stability.

For Hanley, I was just looking for someone to tske his contract, and wasn't sure of his or Moran's value.

Like I said in my original post, I can mix and match so is there any potential deals with the players and teams I'm seeking.

I guess I was more looking at it for next year, with CC and Garcia leaving, then Pineda leaving the year after, meaning a still fairly scary looking rotation of Verlander, Gray, Severino, Tanaka plus one for the next two or three years. Not ideal though, you're right, but with the inability to really eat money on this game it was tough to find a team with a contract even close to $100m attached to a worthless player.

After thinking it over, not convinced Kinsler to the Dodgers really works either as I don't think they need him, I was thinking maybe instead sending him to the Angels and taking back Ricky Nolasco's contract. Nolasco is actually owed slightly more money (somehow) so I was thinking would Alex Meyer and Taylor Ward be a fair return? (27 year old maybe 5th starter with low B potential and a longshot high C catcher)

I see where you're coming from on a lot of these then. Pomeranz I'm good with, Leon seems ok except maybe do you have an RP you could toss back to them? You could take another C level prospect if so. Young to STL makes sense now, the only deal I really see any holdup on is still Hanley. I just don't see any team wanting to take on that money, as he's not that great of a hitter and is DH only for a team trying to win. You might have to swap bad contract for bad contract or give prospect value to move him, and while Singleton's is bad, that money isn't enough to move the needle.

Year 3 with my Braves around the end of June. Currently 1st in the division (something along 35-23.. 4.5 over PHI).

Currently in a cold streak by losing 7 of my last 10. Just gauging value since the trade is already done (no 30 teams control). I hope I didn't screw the CPU.

Inciarte (moved him to RF) is having a rough season at the plate and I wanted more pop in my lineup since speed isn't an issue (Got Villar, Swanson and others).

Pirates are already out (11 games back) and should look for next year.

                      Pirates

Ender Inciarte (RF now) with 2 years left at 6.0M
Kolby Allard (is approx. top 10 MLB prospect)
                      Vince Garcia (OF) 18 YO/B prospect/ 63 OVR

                      Braves

Gregory Polanco --final year (looking for 11M now) stats : 273AVG/12HR/32 RBI

                      Overpaid? underpaid? Awful?

Looking for opinions to better myself with future trades!

I know Polanco is better in the game but man that seems like a massive overpay. In real life, Inciarte is probably just as good if not better than Polanco, and he's cheaper and more controllable. Tacking Allard on hurts too, plus that other guy. I don't wanna rip your trade but it feels like you could have gotten much better for that package. Out of curiosity, why is Inciarte playing RF? He's one of the best CF around, so unless you've got Kiermaier, Hamilton, Bradley Jr, Buxton, or Pillar I think he'd remain in CF.

Crap! Overpaid haha. I could try to do a minor deal where I ''fleece'' the CPU to balance it out. I'm always scared to exploit AI.

during season 2 (Kept Albies in AAA for 2 years) I traded for Villar at 2B (posted on here for value).

Then, Albies made MLB debut (I've signed Donaldson at 3B) so I switched Villar to CF (unrealistic but it was on his secondary positions so I allowed myself to do it and Villar is too prone to injuries in the diamond).

It allows me to play a real LF in Polanco, put Tyler Austin at his natural position (RF) and keep Villar as my CF.

Who you think I could have gotten? I tried to work around standings & team needs.

So I just noticed something when looking at the Nats about the Leon deal. Strasburg is out the rest of the season with a torn rotator cuff. So I was thinking, maybe add Pomeranz to that deal? Something like...

Nationals Receive: Drew Pomeranz, Brandon Workman, Sandy Leon

Red Sox Receive: Enny Romero, Austin Voth, Rafael Martin, Pedro Severino, Michael Taylor

Or is this too much, I tossed in Martin because of the void from Workman, plus I figured he's a 32 year old with D potential who has struggled in AAA. If that isn't too much, would adding Lobaton push it over the top. He's only batting .182, but if I go through with this trade, I'd like to still have some sort of veteran behind the plate, even though Vazquez would be the main guy. Severino would go to AAA and probably come up in September or in the event of an injury.

The Cardinals are out of it after the all star break - 14.5GB from the wild card.

I'm looking at one of their corner outfielders and A relief pitcher (both hitting around .220, with 8 HR and 24 RBI) Bullpen is struggling for them as well.

What would it take to get either one as SF I am leading the NL West buy 2 games over the dodgers and need some more power and a bullpen arm.

                              Cheers

it'd be a lot easier to tell you values if you gave specific names of guys you were looking at haha
