Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Now of course if he goes out at plays a 5+ WAR season it changes things but the team he would be traded to still needs to make sense for them, not just for who you want to take from them.Comment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
I think you are right. There is just too much risk having your best pitcher play the field in his off day. How dumb would a team feel if Otani comes over, pitches like peak Yu Darvish and hurts his elbow or shoulder diving for a ball in the field. Or trying to throw a runner out. Just sign him as a pitcher. Promise to use him as a pinch hitter every day he doesn't start and use him whenever you play interleague. I'm sure the Dodgers could sign him, and use him how I explained and he'd easily hit over 200 ABs. Bumgarner has 97 last year. You could mess with it and get Otani to 200. That seems like the best compromise.Comment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
I understand that but if Otani wants to hit the only want he signs with a NL is if he can get multiple bats in 2-3 games besides his at-bats when he pitchesComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
He gets 3-4 at bats when he pitches. Can pinch hit late in games where he doesnt pitch. Can play DH in games against AL teams. Plenty of at batsOakland A's - Seattle Mariners - Detroit TigersPittsburgh Steelers - Green Bay PackersDetroit Red WingsComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Atlanta can't sign Otani cuz they signed Maitan last year which put them over the international signing bonus so they can't sign anyone for over $300,000. Otani falls under the new international signing restrictions as he is under 25 years oldComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
Thanks for the insight. My plan is to start my franchise with the Marlins and bring him onboard and try to get him opportunities to hit as well.Comment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
You can still be the Cubs and sign him but it won't be realistic. I hate how Japanese players are being put into the international signing as they are being posted by their respective teams and not signing as free agents as amateursComment

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread
The Otani hype bullet train is very much real. To answer the original question, every MLB team that has not exceeded their international pool will be in on this guy. NL/AL doesn't matter. His best fit, at this point, may be in the back end of the bullpen (he needs to develop his change and could use a slider/sinker if he wants to go through a lineup 3 times) and that opens up all kinds of batting opportunities. Money is not an issue as it will be a short deal with an opt out.
There is a reasonable expectation that every franchise owner will sign him as its plausible he could go there. Just don't ask for a trade value, you'll never get a consensus!"for love of the game" - B. ChapelComment
