    Re: Too many HR's?

I feared we were a bit in trouble when we saw the Presentation Twitch stream video and Cabrera hit that upper-tank shot in Washington. The three reasons I never brought it up as a concern though were:

    1) The development team was surprised by the result (and to be fair, it was only 437 feet).
    2) I figured they still had time to correct things then, if they had to.
    3) It was in a thread about presentation only, and the only other time I had brought up distances in that thread things didn't go very well.

They may have gotten ball physics off the bat correctly, or at least better (perhaps just more varied), but physics with the air and ground leave so much to be desired, still. Plus, we've never in our lives seen a 500+ foot home run right down the line. Those go into the power alleys. That kind of thing needs to be addressed as well.

As far as the number of home runs are concerned, I have only played two full games but the CPU may have five or six total home runs off of me, and I have two so far. I'll let it play out for a little bit, mess with the sliders some, then contribute alongside the other slider folks and leave my input there. I would definitely like to correct the distances as much as the HR count itself, though.

I'm still cranking them out on Allstar, downloaded a really good roster to Hold me over until OSFM, with really roster , rookies and saliers

I played my first game against the Braves last night and 6 HR between both teams.

Again, I like the Long Ball, I just hope It's not every game

Are you using default AS sliders?

Does anyone know how much wind has an effect on the ball this year? Also I remember Russel talking about how much weather and temperature effects the ball as well there maybe a lot of things under the hood affecting all of this.

But I am not sure that limiting the hanging pitches would be a good thing either.

I really don't know anymore after reading it all lol.

I'm not saying eliminate. I'm saying curb the frequency of them. I think they are too prevalent particularly when a pitchers confidence falls.

I think part of the pitch speed thing is the improved and more consistent frame rate.

My theory isn't to lower the hitting sliders but to raise the pitch consistency and possibly the pitcher control (not sure of their official names as I'm not in front of the game) a notch or two and see what that does. Ideally this would help control the number of meatball pitches thrown.
This is a good theory, I noticed this a decent amount last night. Changeups/Fastballs hanging in the middle of the zone more often than most games. I adjusted the confidence and in the next game (1 game sample size but still) I did not see as much of the meatballs.

So do you feel it would be better to turn off pitch confidence?

                    Re: Too many HR's?

Just a heads up for those going the "too many meatballs" route - we do actually have a way of tracking that per game (at least for pitches right down the middle). Use the "Deep Strike" result filter in Batter Analysis.

This number can vary quite a bit from game to game per team depending on pitcher performance, but it usually falls in a range of 8 - 15 per team during CPU vs CPU games in 16. If it's edging up higher than that in '17, you might be on to something.

Of course this doesn't take into account pitches that hang above the middle like changeups and curves, but there's no easy way to track those.

That won't matter. It only turns off the meter displays - the underlying system is still functional.

Turning it off relates to the on screen graphic only. It does nothing to the underlying mechanics.

I would have lost money on that bet. I thought for sure pitch confidence was an added "dice roll factor" on top of the standard pitcher ratings.

So in that case, and correct me if I am wrong please, it seems like the two routes to go would be either:

A.) Pitcher consistency/control (either or both) - if number of meatballs is the issue

                          or

B.) hitting sliders to adjust how often a meatball is crushed

Is there a pitcher/pitch confidence meter? If so, you could try adjusting that.
