What month and elevation are people playing in/at?

Maybe that has too much of an impact, along with other factors. Hot games means the ball travels further.

      Re: Too many HR's?

There is no doubt a lot of HR's getting hit but......I changed from all-star to HOF and dropped the power slider to 3, solid hits to 4 and now I am getting solid results. I have played 3 games since the change and have hit 3HR and given up 4HR. Pretty much in line I think. There is no universal sliders, everyone's skill level is different but if you will tinker around with them, I bet you will find something you can live with.

        Re: Too many HR's?

I've only played 3 games. First 2 maybe 3 total (all cpu) then this last one. 8 home runs, all over 410ft. Sadly it was all the runs scored. I think we had maybe 5 other hits total. I'm not really seeing much variety so far. It's like they're all on steroids. It's definitely no fun when all we hit are homeruns.

For the guys just mashing HRs left and right, are you zone hitters?

Not that it makes it OK or anything, just wondering.

With directional hitting I have gotten the most amazing hit variety I have ever experienced in this game. Also using Armor's sliders which I think has solid hits and power lowered so maybe that helps too?

There's a lot of homeruns.... But my biggest problem with it is, all the runs are scored via HR. Balls hit down the line are usually singles. If you have a runner on 2nd, a basehit to the OF is charged and thrown to home and the runner cannot score.

And the distance... My goodness... The #8 hitter for the braves just hit one out of dodger stadium off of Kershaw. Ridiculous! Balls are flying way too far!

Okay if you guys don't want to see so many HRs don't play at a level lower than HOF while choosing Power/Contact/Solids no higher than 4 for each. I just finished a test game with no HRs but scored 4 Runs on 11 hits. Go play about 3 games like this and tell me what you think.

                Re: Too many HR's?

I'm seeing DD games being a massive launching pad, at least from my perspective hitting. I use zone and I've been cranking them out at just under 3 HR per game so far. The thing is, I haven't been giving up anywhere near that much.

One thing I noticed, and maybe it's something people pitching online haven't picked up just yet, is that a lot of my homers are coming off bad pitching. I.E. guys throwing off speed and breaking pitches consistently in the strike zone which honestly should be punished. I just had a game where I hit back-to-back-to-back homers with Kinsler, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Hosmer because the guy hung a curveball to Kinsler, and threw two down and in sliders well in the strike zone to Cabrera and Hosmer with a RHP.

Now I'm not saying every pitch like that should be smoked, and it might be a little over the top right now, but it certainly feels better than it has in the past where bad pitching was rewarded.

Also, of note, I've played some regular online rated games at the HoF level and the game plays much more normal. Does anyone know if the difficulty level on DD increases when your rating gets to a certain level like in year's past? Pretty sure at some point it moved up to HOF?

I played offline head to head with a buddy. Default sliders, with HoF batting/pitching. We combined for 15 homeruns(!) and the final score was 12 to 10. Greg Bird, Brandon Belt, and Eduardo Nunez(!) each had three homeruns. The longest homerun we hit was 500 ft (Brandon Belt) but 4 or 5 others all went over 450 ft. Ridiculous.

One game is way too small a sample. I've already stated what the biggest issue is and I'll repeat: it's the distance of the home runs and guys who are hitting them. Players with 50 power rating shouldn't be hitting 500ft home runs. 450ft bombs don't happen often in RL but it seems routine in this game.

Home run frequency can be adjusted with sliders, but the unrealistic tape measure distances is much more difficult to fix. One theory for the cause is this being a result of the new ball physics. But it could also be intentional, to attract the more casual players, who would usually prefer this kind of arcade-like gameplay over a true sim.

                      Re: Too many HR's?

Coming from 15 I skipped last year's version) it's certainly easier to hit HR's and hits in general. I was playing on veteran in 15, now playing all-star on 17 and thinking about trying HOF (tried it in batting practice and I did not look good though).

Playing the Jays, I hit 15 HR in 5 games.

The difference is that the PCI is bigger in 17 and pitch speed has been reduced quite a bit. I'm certainly pulling tge ball way more often in 17 than in 15.

From a video game standpoint, I'd be personally ok if my team was around that number even if it's probably a little too high by true "sim" standards. As long as the number is in the realm of possible.
I don't want the game to be 100% real, it will never happen. I'm fine with a good compromise. But when you win 90% of your games with HR's you have a balance problem.

I've been labbing, this time in franchise with Armor and Marinos sliders and directional hitting but on hof, and the moon shots just keep happening. I'm a very good show pitcher, but an average hitter, and I'm bashing home runs against hof pitching on 4 power like it's the derby. Not sure why we aren't all having the same experience, but I'm certain something's off. Look forward to locating the secret sauce sliders and or a patch to shrink the pci.

I'm an average player and I'm hitting homerun a like it's homerun derby. Totally kills immersion as does the starting pitcher problem

I see this as well. Ive played more than 20 games in my carry over franchise on Hall of Fame Default sliders using zone hitting and I am seeing an unusual amount of HRs this year. I never powerswing. Only hit with X. I do not really want to start messing with sliders but I may have to to get a more realistic number of HRs.
