Re: CPU SP problem (anyone else has it!?)

Re: CPU SP problem (anyone else has it!?)

I have not used QC this year due to this issue that most are experiencing. So far for my franchise (about 20 games), I am not necessarily seeing SPs pulled early. However, there are times when I notice a SP pulled in the 6th or 7th innning (roughly 75-85 pitches in) so they don't get a loss. For example, I recently played a game where Quintana was pulled with 1 out in the 7th (85ish pitches) in a 3-2 game after allowing the tying to get on base. Now he probably could have finished this inning and maybe started the 8th based on his pitch count and energy level.

Moral of this post is, I wonder if the computer also takes into consideration whether or not the SP will receive the Loss when making the call to the pen? I see more of this situation that SPs getting pulled too early for no reason.

I do a mix of simming, playing entire games, etc. Never use Quick Counts, and don't use 30 team control.

I see the manager pulling guys too, but perhaps the most damning evidence is the IP numbers for the Long Relievers. I am in September in my franchise, and nearly every team's Long Reliever has like 90-120 innings pitched. Most of these guys don't have any, or very few, starts. The non-elite pitchers who have been starting all year (Nathan Karns, for example) have 140 innings in about 30 starts.

This shows pretty conclusively that starters are routinely getting pulled in the 5th and the same Long reliever is regularly throwing 2-3 innings, many times in back to back games.

      I have adjusted sliders, FWIW.

It's almost like the AI is using playoff type logic. In the playoffs, you'd be very likely to see a team pull a starter at the first sign of trouble in the 5th inning. In the dog days of July, though, teams have a ragged bullpen and want their pitcher to go 100 pitches as often as possible.
I blame Francona and Andrew Miller for this new AI logic...

What's funny is in Show '16, I tested my strategy of starting every game with your best pitcher, regardless of stamina. Once he's tired, put in the 2nd best. If it were the '16 Cubs, you're talking about pitching in this sort of order: Chapman, Lester, Hendricks, Arrieta, and so on.

Yeah, starting the game with the closer might be a smart strategy. And so I find it funny that the game is somewhat mimicking this strategy.

Manage mode has gameplay problems this year but one improvement - full counts - is cpu starting pitcher being pulled closer to IRL.

Played a 5 games this weekend, both with and without QC. I only had 1 SP go more than 6 innings. He got pulled in the 7th with 2 outs. So 1 out of 5 games had a pretty realistic outcome with SP. it's very disappointing. Hopefully a patch is on the way because the game is unplayable.

What was the pitch count of each pitcher when he was pulled? Was the team winning or losing when he was pulled? DH or no DH?

The average starter goes less than 6 innings.

Each guy was below 80 pitches. 4/6 were winning and all gave up less than 3 runs.

You're still on this? Each pitcher was doing well. Pitch counts were low, most of them were winning and all of them we're at a decent stamina level. None of these pitchers except one would have been taken out in real life.

Still on what? You made a vague post about a pitcher being taken out before the 6 inning with no context. I haven't seen anyone who claims to see this in full count games post a screenshot or give any details on a pitcher being taken out too early. I've played enough games to be pretty sure it's a minor issue at most for full count games.

Re: CPU SP problem (anyone else has it!?)

For me there are two problems, one is that the computer is far too quick to pull starters or closers in close games, the other is that they don't pull relievers at all once the game is no longer close, leading to some ridiculous 10+ run innings where they just leave the guy in to get annihilated (thanks in part to the slightly over zealous confidence system).

To me, the problem seems to be that the AI doesn't differentiate between starters, closers and relievers in close games once you get past the first maybe 4 innings. So as a result it pulls starters using the sort of logic a manager would use to pull a middle reliever, rather than letting them work their way out of trouble if they've been pitching well. Same goes for closers, they should never be pulled mid-close, but the AI doesn't seem to treat them any differently to standard relievers so is more than willing to pull them as soon as they let a couple of guys on base and a lefty/lefty matchup is available.

Then all logic seems to be turned off if the game isn't close, only caring about stamina, so pitchers are hung out to dry and games start to look ridiculous.

Will they fix this? I'm pretty dubious at this point, I think all the server nonsense has the majority of their attention and everything else is likely to slip between the cracks till next year. Major annoyance though
