Edit: Yeah you probably want to read all three posts.
I had 2 beautiful slap hits while influencing down last night with pitcher Mike Montgomery of all people. One of which was on 2 outs and led to a 5 run inning. Confirmed timing is what affects where the ball goes! Only trouble I've got is you might have made me too good a hitter with this guide.

That's the idea! Glad it's working out for you.

Yeah before I learned my system and the nuances of the mode the thought of turning up the difficulty was insane to me.

After making this thread I've been discovering that a lot of the OS community didn't know this stuff. Sorry guys if I had known I would have posted sooner. Been lurking since 2011 glad I can give back to the community that has helped me enjoy this awesome game.

          Re: Directional Hitting Guide

By the way, I was wondering if people wanted me to do more scouting reports. I'm willing to take requests. I can do stuff off the default or live rosters, or even DD cards.

I was also thinking about doing a section breaking down a pull focused hitter, a push focused hitter and a balanced hitter, and highlighting the advantages of each, the value they bring to your club and how to handle specific situations at the plate with these hitters. So far I've only covered no base runner situations.

Like the post if you're interested, I'll do the triple threat breakdown if I get ten likes on it.

I would find it useful to have a breakdown. Im enjoying the game much more after this thread. I'm confident in the approach, thus leading to increased patience and seeing the ball much better = more quality hits, productive outs and more BB. I struggle when falling behind with a pull hitter or extreme pull hitter. Like you said, play your tendencies so I still think in my head, "should I contact swing but still play my guys tendencies and attempt a pull, or go with a push contact, or a push normal swing." It gets a little foggy there. Either way the result has been fun and varied thanks to your suggestions. So I appreciate your time of passing along some knowledge. Yes it's a video game, but if I'm spending my free time, shouldn't I enjoy it? And I am now.
A breakdown of the difference and different approach to pull hitters, balanced and push hitters would be awesome...and in different counts and situations and your successes would be insightful. Thanks again.

I do talk about 0-2 and 1-2 counts in the player archetypes writeup early in the thread. The breakdowns I'm proposing would be a little more in depth, breaking down situations with runners on and if/when/how to play a little small ball with each type of player.

I realize you don't use guess pitch but I thought I would throw this out there...For my RTTS I have created a power hitter. I guess down in the zone and then influence up. I'm hitting more home runs then I ever have using this method. I seem to be getting under more low pitches which is giving me better contact, as opposed to popping up pitches higher in the zone. Keeping in mind that you don't use guess pitch and you hate the up influence...is what I'm reporting consistent with your findings?

Yes. The upwards influence is good at hitting the low pitch, and on top of that it does add power. I have no doubt that combining it with guess pitch would stack the positive effects.

I just hate the upwards influence in general due to the debuff to vision. When it comes to a specific situation, like the pitcher consistently throwing low pitches or trying to stay out of the double play, I love it. I do usually stack it with my pull or push swing as opposed to going straight in order to get the slightly wider timing window, and I recommend your doing the same, but hey, you got the basic idea down pat.

Edit: If you're a power hitter you probably want to stack it with your pull swing when ahead in the count.

I'll give it a shot. I tried pulling but I use a real close zoom camera and the change in angle messed me up. I'll try it out in some spring training games. I'd say I'd do some BP...but I have two small children at home so every moment I get on the couch alone is precious.

                        Re: Directional Hitting Guide

oh man, having one small one and finding time to get some games in is tough enough, cant imagine with two!

playing on AS, I have decided to bump up contact to 6 along with solid hits at 6, everything else hitting wise default except for Foul Frequency at 3.

Ive been on Veteran for years, decided to make the jump up this year, but im struggling on AS. Mostly in a good way, as I am liking the way the CPU is pitching me on AS. I heard good things about AI logic on AS so I wanted to give it a real go.

Too many pitches I felt I should have been hitting hard i'm fouling off. Even had a few where the timing was good and I still missed, on a pitch in the zone. That pisses me off, then i chase the low change up in frustration, because I didn't put a good swing on my pitch. I have a water cooler in my house and if my bat was in reach, I certainly would have taken the bat to it Went into batting practice and was feeling the same frustration. I told myself I wouldnt go crazy with changes, but im going to roll with contact 6, solid hit 6 for the next ten or so games. Telling myself i need the boost for now as a transition from VET to AS. If i start hitting like crazy (doubtful), what should I drop first, contact or solid? Should I also boost timing up to 6?

Thanks to whoever stuck with this long winded rant/post/plea for advice!

You can turn off the angle shift in the hitting settings, it's the last option, can't remember the name but the description will let you know you have the right one.

Also, just wanted to ask about the 1-1 count. I tend to pull or push depending on game situation, but curious what people do. I have found that following this guide I am a lethal 2 strike hitter (playing RTTS). So many 2 strike opposite field hits. Having trouble with power but that's more my player build at the moment. I did have a situation where I was setup to pull on 2-1, got a juicy fastball on the inner half, and inside-outted it to the opposite field gap for a 3 run double. Was very satisfying.

I'm still playing 15. Is that option available?
