Well you're obviously not doing anything wrong. If you feel like you're getting too many homeruns then you should try fiddling with the difficulty and human power slider while in batting practice. Keep experimenting until the results meet your expectations. Try to remember though that it is not outside the realm of possibility for Joc Pederson to hit two monster homeruns in a game.

Beyond that, I'd ask one of the slider gurus like Armor for help. They know far more about balancing the game then I do. I'm just a bad hitter who managed to figure out how to get the most out of my ABs.

I wish i could pull some bombs. Ive had more success hitting homers with up influence, pulling usually gives me a hard grounder which sometimes gets through.

How much should I influence the hit?

Your playing an RttS right? Would explain why you're having trouble pulling. There are lots of factors at work, and if you chose a swing animation that doesn't jive well with pull then the up influence is your best shot at power.

As I say in the OP, every influence has a benefit and a cost, but the benefits usually outweigh the costs so you should influence on every pitch.

No i dont play RTTS, just a Yanks franchise and play now live games. I've been in a major power slump the last few days, and the patch nerfing hitting talk is getting in my head i think.

lol I hear that. You get into this cycle of "Was it the patch, is it just a slump?" and start second guessing everything. Soon enough you're critiquing every swing and the results as opposed to just playing and enjoying the game. You're so worried that you can't see the forest for the trees you end up stepping on a bear.

              Hope things turn around!

I'm up to 7 now. Bat does feel a little too good there though but again small sample size. I swear my ideal is between 6 and 7.

                    Re: Directional Hitting Guide

Still using swing influence exclusively and still enjoying it. My power has taken a dip as I haven't even hit a HR in my last 4 games, 3 were at Texas and the wind was blowing in for the entire series. The game before that was at home against the Mets and Thor was on the mound. Having said that my batting average is still solid, I'm hitting .297 in August (through only 2 games) but I hit .288 in July over a 26 game sample size. If my pitching wasn't a hot mess I'd be running away with the division but instead I sit at 58-51 and 3 GB. I am really enjoying hitting a lot more then before I found this thread.

Well I just played a game where I was humiliated by the pitching. Only managed to square up 6 "happy zone" balls all game. The results: Chopper to third, 2 (good looking) flyouts, solid hit up the middle, popfly behind the plate (foul), and a good but not great looking ground rule double up the line.

So I guess that's as much proof as any that you won't be just hitting lasers all day at 7 human solid hits. The SP was some young punk (generated not a real player) with a great 97 MPH fastball and a solid changeup to combo. Lost 3-2. Very frustrating (in a good way).

Going to give SH at 7 a go for ten games. Bumped CPU up one to 6 to give them some pop as well so I don't feel as bad lol.

Highly recommend it. I don't talk about it in this thread because, you know, hitting, but having CPU solid hits up makes you fear the zone a little more, especially when the middle of their order comes to bat. My fear of the middle of the zone is real, and there are many situations now where I am ok with giving up the walk.

Quick question, do you ever influence up trying to hit a HR? I've found myself in a 5 game stretch without a HR and am starting to press as my offense has struggled suddenly. Prior to this recent stretch I'd only influence left or right to pull the ball and had no issues hitting HR's but with the recent power outage I'm starting to panic thinking I'm doing something wrong lol.

Chef my man don't panic, but yes I've used up to try and get homers from power guys. Just look for pitches in the bottom 2/3 or you'll be more likely to pop it up. When pressing down, do the opposite, look in the upper 2/3.

Ahh the dreaded teamwide power drought, I know it well. It's a big reason why I ensured my team had speed. Power can dry up at any moment, but speed will always be there for you.

I would argue that it's only been 5 games, and you should stick with the process, but I know how frustrating that can be. You're pressing. You know you're pressing. I'm guessing when you try to be patient you're letting good pitches go. It becomes this vicious cycle of self doubt. Is it me? Is it my team? Do I need to change some settings? Or is this just the sim getting things right?

I have two tips. The first is strategy based (and I suggest you try first) and the second is settings based.

The solution to pressing is sometimes thinking outside the box. Most of the time it's to get more patient, but sometimes you miss your pitch, and when you've been struggling at that plate missing your pitch is INFURIATING. What I suggest is that, for a game, you give yourself permission to swing whenever you want. Set caution to the wind. The goal here is to get yourself out of your own head and back into the game.

My second tip is to turn down the difficulty, or boost yourself with sliders. I know it feels humiliating, and feels like cheating, I've been there, but sometimes you need to see a few positive results just to get yourself out of the funk. You can always turn it back when your bat returns.

So no, I wouldn't start adding the up swing more often in an attempt to add more power. Reducing your vision is rarely a good idea (I think you know why by now), and the up swing should stay reserved for situational hitting, when you predict the low ball, and those killer sinking pitches. I know the 5 game drought is frustrating but it doesn't warrant a shift in strategy (yet).

You are on the start of a trend though, so if problems continue, you can add the hybrid Pull/up swing when ahead in counts with power hitters for sure. I just had a game where I was humiliated at the plate so I can't help but feel a little sympathy for you. Good luck!
