I think that's unrealistic because I don't even think it's possible to give a lot of back spin unless a pitch is swung under... which is most likely not the case for line drives.

If people are good at hitting and producing a lot of those line drives, I could see them feeling that there is something funky going on with being just late and producing missiles. And I sometimes do hit that kind of HRs, especially when playing online.
This is exactly what happened to me, typically I don't worry about it and just chalk it up as a fluke but last night, batting with Nelson Cruz, I had an up and in fastball that I was clearly late on to the point I figured I'd pop it up or watch as my bat shattered and instead he ripped a low line drive opposite field HR that barely cleared the wall in Safeco. Those are the only HR's that just look odd when they happen because physics don't seem to play into any of it.

Seems odd so many people seem to be having this or similar issues. Hitting has been pretty spot on for me. Maybe it's an issue with zone hitting? I do recall getting some odd results back when I used zone.

      Currently using directional.

I think my franchise stats illustrate my thoughts as I approach June.(all games played by me on default HOF hitting)

        Freddie Freeman- .329avg 25 HR 46 RBI
        Matt Kemp- .332avg 15 HR 42 RBI
Ender Inciarte- .299 avg 5 HR 17 RBI

Everyone else, below a .235 average. Would like to have those numbers balance out for the rest of the lineup, but I fear sliders may be the only way to do it, and I don't want slideritis at this point.

i just took my ps4 in for an update(1.07) and i now notice the hitting is more difficult. it's rare to be able to pull an a high inside fastball with righty vs righty or lefty vs lefty on legend. i've made a few adjustments to my technique and have improved my odds but the hitting has been tweaked noticeably since 1.07 came out.
