Each perk has a cost, and that cost cuts into the 120 Showtime points you're allowed per game (Showtime itself is the "slowdown/matrix time effect you can activate). You have to equip a perk in the RTTS front end menu to use it, and once you do you press up on the D-pad during a game to actually activate the perk's effect. You have to earn them in the first place by raising a specific attribute high enough to unlock it.

Perks and Showtime are completely optional - you don't have to use them if you don't want to (and for my RTTS that I'm updating in this thread, I'm not). Although you can't actually disable the Showtime bar nor its effect - you just choose not to press R2.
Thanks for the details! I turned the showtime itself off. I dislike slowing the game down. I do however enjoy hitting the left D-pad at random at-bats and seeing what the hitter and pitchers perks are. I wish they would come to the RTTS player automatically, depending how he performs in certain situations. Just happens to have a boost in hitting in night games if he has previously performed well there, etc,.

Oh...okay - A little clarification here. What you just described in the last post (the icons that show up in the left/right D-pad screen) definitely are Quirks. AFAIK you don't gain those over time except for the ones that are tied to specific ratings (Sniper for Arm accuracy, for example). Those types of quirks don't do anything other than let you know the player has a high rating in something. There are quirks in the game that actually affect things in the game, but I don't think you can get them in RTTS - they're pre-assigned to specific players.

Perks are on the screen that looks like this, and they are what I described in the post above:

Sorry for confusing you! The fact that the perk and quirk icons are styled the same is confusing enough in itself

how can i get eye to the ball while base running?!?

somebody said in here that left stick to the right at 3 o'clock does it but it doesn't work at all when i try it. somebody else said R1 and that also doesn't work.

i'd be loving this but not being able to see where the ball is hit while base running and being so far zoomed out in the field with no way to switch to the old cam is really ruining the game for me right now. i can't see while i'm in the field without doing a manual zoom before every pitch on defense and i can't see where the ball is hit!

Push R2 when baserunning to switch to a broadcast view.

That's what I've been doing but it's pretty ridiculous to playing POV as a player and cut to broadcast cams. Last year's version would keep your eyes locked on the ball at all times. It's not only hurting the base running but also the fielding. A base runner should start running and see where the ball is going before checking the 3b coach and I'm stuck either breaking the emursion by watching hit from the overhead broadcast cam or completely relying on the 3b coach. When I'm in the field at 3b and a ball gets hit somewhere else besides third I can't see the play until I run to cover the bag for no reason and by the time I get there and turn towards the play the ball is being thrown in after the out.

I don't understand the point of the camera changes at all. They were fine before and now it's just broken. They made it easier to look around before the pitch but made it impossible to see the play after the pitch. Why?!?

There was some talk back in the thread about durability and other ratings effecting the whole "move to 1B" storyline that happens early in your career. Not the case.... just to experiment I created a player in 17 and maxed out almost everything but the hitting and still was moved. Seems to be something that is just hardwired into the game. Not an issue....and depending on how you respond to the move with your manager you usually get moved back. I despise playing 1B though but it's a cheap easy way to build up reaction and fielding when you are playing it.

Noticed out on the main board that the annual longest HR thread had been started.... which is a really cool thread. Don't think the thread is for RTTS HR's so was wondering if there was enough interest from this group to do a RTTS longest HR thread?

Powerhouse. And he's a right fielder. Accidentally put LF. Haha.
