Going to post my first update in my franchise later tonight. My Orioles are dead last. I knew this season was gonna be awful. I will be playing through even though I have 0% chance of making the olayoffs. But wanted to post this funny.

I'm a week after all-star break. The DBacks were 13 GB of NL West lead and 5.5 of WC. I decided they weren't gonna do anything so I made some trades for them.

AJ Pollack to Twins - Day of trade - Twins lead division by 3 games. A week leader now 2 games behind Indians

Paul Goldschmidt to Yankees - we're 3rd in AL East but have lost 3 straight games

Patrick Corbin to Red Sox - 1st place day of trade. Now lost 4 straight games

Zach Grienke to Brewers - Won 6 straight games and have a stranglehold on the NL Central

Finished my offseason for year 1 Braves. We finished 82-80. No playoffs. Tried to keep young core together and adding some bats as well. Cannot wait to start year 2.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

I'm almost to the 2018 All-Star break; I just have five games to go. And the trade deadline is heating up.

The Red Sox and the Yankees have been the most active, which I love. Prior to July, the Red Sox added Dan Otero and Zack Duke to shore up their pen and added A.J. Ellis for catching depth. And now in July, they've added Khris Davis.

The Yankees also moved early, getting James McCann and Denard Span before July. It will be interesting to see what they do to counter the Sox.

Other notable moves have been Shin-Soo Choo going back to Cleveland and the surprising first-place Reds getting Asivail Garcia.

          My Braves have three needs:
          1. Left-handed bat for the bench
This was supposed to be Eric Thames' job, but he's a starter now. That leaves switch-hitter Danny Santana as the only lefty bat. We've tried to make a deal with the Cubs to bring back Tommy La Stella, but so far no dice.
          2. Right-handed bat for the starting lineup
Lefties Freddie Freeman and Thames provide plenty of power, but switch-hitter Ozzie Albies is the only other Brave in double figures for HRs. We'd like to some right-handed power to balance it out. We've checked in with the Marlins on J.T. Realmuto, but (like real life) they want too much. Adam Jones could be a possibility, but that would mean benching Nick Markakis. Nolan Arendado would be a perfect fit, but he doesn't fit our budget. Nick Castellanos could be a fallback option.
          3. Starting pitching
Brandon McCarthy and Anibal Sanchez have had their moments, but both have struggled at times. Top-prospect Luiz Gohara will likely replace one of them, but we may look to trade for another SP.

              Made my move.

Braves acquire 3B Nicholas Castellanos and CF Leonys Martin from Detroit for 3B Rio Ruiz (A potential), SP Matt Wisler (B) and two C-level prospects. The rebuilding Tigers also dump about $3M in salary for the remainder of the season and don't have to worry about arbitration for Castellanos next year.

Castellanos moves into the starting lineup at 3B. His addition also strengthens the bench with Camargo moving there. Martin will be our top pinch-hitter to start off with, but could push Markakis for playing time in RF.

Injury bug strikes again...Michael Wacha to the 10 Day DL

Injuries have been a common theme for this Cardinals team this year, and the bug has struck yet again. This time it got Michael Wacha who was placed on the 10 Day DL due to elbow inflammation. Wacha left Monday night's game against the Reds in the 3rd inning due to elbow discomfort. The Cardinals used Tyler Lyons, Joe Kelly, Sam Freeman, and Roberto Osuna to get thru the remainder of the game. The Cardinals lost 3-2.

Jose Quintana was called up to replace Wacha in the rotation. Jose Quintana has been the subject of trade talks and was thought to be dealt to the Giants a few days ago, but now it appears the Cardinals will hang on to him past the deadline. They could still turn to Miles Mikolas who is currently in Memphis as he tries to get back to form after a DL stint of his own.

Mets continue their winning ways after the All-Star Break with a victory over the streaking Los Angeles Dodgers. New York has now won 12 straight games, but are still just 5.5 games up on the Nationals in the NL East.

We came out of the break struggling a bit. Just 2-3 in our first 5 games.

My all star game was late this season (3rd Tuesday in July), so I only have a few days left in the month.

The funny thing about my current winning streak is that prior to it, I hadn't won more than 3 straight games. I was winning series, but wasn't able to go on an extended run until just recently.

Injury bug strikes again. Cards lose Carpenter for the year

Injuries have plagued this Cardinals team all season, and the most significant injury to hit the team may have just occurred. The Cardinals have lost Matt Carpenter for the season due to knee cartilage damage. Matt Carpenter was hitting .306 with 23 homeruns and 58 RBI's on the year. He was a staple in the #3 spot and at first base. Carpenter re-signed in the offseason to a one year deal to try to make it to the World Series. The Cardinals may get to the Series, but it will be without Carpenter.

With just 3 days to the trade deadline, the Cardinals are in scramble mode as they try to decide what to do to replace Carpenter. Internal options include Marwin Gonzalez, Brendan McKay, or moving Paul DeJong to first base. Both Gonzalez and McKay have struggled this season, to the point the Cardinals were considering moving Gonzalez to Memphis and trading for a better bench option. McKay has struggled to be consistent in Memphis. DeJong is most likely the best internal option, but then who plays shortstop?

The trade market is bland at first base. The best option available is Jon Singleton of the Brewers. He's hitting .281 with 10 homers and 41 RBI's, but Singleton has struggled to stay in the lineup himself due to injuries. Outside of Singleton, there really is no other viable option that would be considered better than the options they have internally.

At the time of this injury the Cardinals are 60-43 and a 1/2 game back of the Cubs. Let's see how they finish up.

I started my franchise this year. Jon Singleton was a FA so I picked him up with the hope of turning him into new age David Ortiz. A redemption project and he is clutch for me. Kinda messed up my plan to move Chris Davis to DH and Trey Mancini to 1B. Now I'm looking at options of trading Mancini in off-season

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

started my 2019 season with the World champion A's. well after signing a ton of FA's to contracts and offering money to other players on my team I was running in the red.

So needless to say I went on a trading frenzy. getting cheaper and younger in the same breath. I did keep to my own word to myself of going from rookie to Veteran to start year two of the franchise. I even blindly added a slider set to increase the challenge.

However I'm thinking even though I'm not throttling teams on Veteran level, I'm still winning games. So much so that I have a five-game win streak to begin my season.

Which is kinda pushing me to want to take this game to All-Star on both pitching and hitting just so I get some semblance of mild stress. All while keeping the same slider set. BYU's set is working out well for me so far I think.

There is also a part of me that feels with all the moves that I feel that I can no longer continue with this team. even though there is a part of me that likes certain players that I did acquire in trades during my trading frenzy.

so I'm sort of at a crossroad with this franchise. do I continue it or let it go?

My recommendation would be to play at default All-Star for two weeks of games and see how it plays for you. Don't adjust anything, don't change anything, just play it out and see what happens.

I also wouldn't quit this franchise and start over. You made these moves for a reason, and I've been of the idea that even if you start over you'll find yourself making similar moves in your new franchise.
