Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

    Cards restructure pitching rotation:

In a surprising move, the Cardinals traded 3 starting pitchers from their rotation as well as a key lefty from the bullpen in a way to rebuild the rotation.

Cards trade RHP Andres Flores to the Cleveland Indians for 18 year old right hander Casey McCloud. Flores, 28, was 4-2 with a 4.33 ERA but was in the last year of his contract.

The Cards then dealt RHP Jon Myers and LHP Eli Busch to the Kansas City Royals for 18 year old LHP Will Lucy and 18 year old LHP Josh Lerma.

Myers, a 6'7 29 year old from North Carolina, was 9-2 with a 4.11 ERA. Busch, 29, was 3-1 with a 4.31 ERA in 28 games (31.1 IP) out of the bullpen. Both were in the final year of their contracts

The key to this trade is Will Lucy, a 6'3 LHP with a big fastball and breaking ball. He was the Royals #1 draft pick (#6 overall) in last years draft.

Cardinals then traded RHP Erik Reese to the Houston Astros in exchange for RHP Elliott Mitcheltree. Reese, 29, was 6-1 with a 2.80 ERA with 94 K's in 86.2 IP but was said to be unhappy that he was the #3 starter in the rotation and was in the final year of his contract. The Cards received back 18 year old Elliott Mitcheltree, a 6'5 RHP from Alabama with an overpowering fastball and a nasty slider. The only question about Mitcheltree is if he can throw enough strikes to remain a starter or will he end up as a backend bullpen arm.

To fill the roster spots, the Cardinals have recalled RHP Blake Lindermann, a 23 Yr old RHP from Wisconsin and RHP Luis Paniagua, a 23 yr old from Venezuela. Cardinals also purchased the contract of RH starting pitcher Giovanni Levesque, a 21 year old from France and 22 yr old LHP Rich O'Connell, from California who will replace Busch as the lefty in the bullpen.

Lindermann will start tonight's game in Denver vs the Rockies and he will be opposed by Rockies pitcher Will Couture (6-1 3.03 ERA).

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The exclusive negotiations phase is over, on to free agency. Actually decided to pull Warren’s offer back and hold up on all spending until free agency started and I know who’s available. Pulled Francona’s offer back as well. Mattingly still hasn’t signed but it’s just a matter of waiting him out it seems, no one else has made an offer yet. Everyone has received their arbitration offers, most of them have been offered slight raises. All contracts have been tendered.

Unfortunately Miller went back to Cleveland on a 5 year deal, but Britton has hit free agency.
      Top Free Agents:
Altuve (very likely headed back to Houston on an 11 year deal worth 341M)
      Bryce Harper
      Paul Goldschmidt
      Chris Sale
      MadBum
      Josh Donaldson
      Manny Machado
      Salvador Perez
      Daniel Murphy
      David Robertson
      Zach Britton
      Dallas Keuchel
      DJ LeMahieu
      Cody Allen
      Sean Doolittle

The plan is to go all in on Harper. Machado is plan B. We need an OF, an IF or two, a SP, 3 RP’s. I think I’ll try and get a SP via trade. Don’t think theirs enough money for Harper and MadBum. Really want Britton but Baltimore has a 5 year deal on the table for him, not matching that amount of years. Donaldson wants 29M a year at 33 years old, way too expensive.

Top Targets: Harper (wants 31M per season
      Britton (wants 10.7M a year

      Possible targets: LF Craig Gentry
      2B DJ LeMahieu
      1B Marwin González.
      Adam Warren
RP Sean Doolittle (backup plan for Britton)
      David Robertson
MadBum (unlikely but not fully ruled out.
      Machado (backup plan for Harper)

We apparently can't beat the Twins as they have given us our two losses in Spring Training. We did however be the Red Sox in 13 innings thanks to a Jeremy Hazelbaker walk off homerun.

Currently playing the Braves but play has been suspended to watch the All-Star game.

          OVERVIEW
Obviously its still early but we are really excited for the season based off our first month of the season. We scored in bunches and our pitching has been solid as well.

Yoan Moncada is playing out of his mind (.474 AVG/8 HR/23 RBI). He is a solid 99 OVR after being placed in the two hole in every lineup.

Tim Anderson has been playing much better than the past two seasons as well. This year is likely do or die for his White Sox career as he will be a free agents and he wants big money that we probably can't pay.

Rhys Hoskins is tied for the AL lead in home runs (10) with Mike Trout.

All starting pitchers have ERA'S in the threes or better besides Lance McCullers (4.38). There are a couple sore spots in the bullpen in Closer Von Jordan (4.26) and Bruce Rondon (12.79).

Jordan is however a perfect 7 for 7 in save attempts.

We will start off May playing the rubber match against the Brewers then staying home for a three game set against the Orioles. After that, we have a ten game road trip.

**I had to change how I'm playing games. I was pitching with the same pitchers over and over. So now I will play one random game in non divisional series (2 if a 4 game set) and two random games in divisional series.

Texas Ranger Update End of Season 3 (MOM)

Well another season has passed and another terrible year it was for our Texas Rangers, We finished the year with another 63-99 season. I promoted Steve Buechele to manager. After 3 seasons of terrible baseball there was no way i was signing Bannister again. Tom Goodwin moves over as the third base coach and Bob Melvin was hired as our 1st base Coach. Meanwhile Donny Baseball is our hitting instructor. Coaching shouldn't be a problem.

I don't know what it is about the Show but it seems the Dodgers always dominate. I've seen Country Boy on here saying they have won 4 straight championships, Well its about that way for me. The Dodgers faced the Indians in the series and won again 4 games to 2. That's 3 seasons, and 3 appearances in the series, winning 2 of them. At least Boston finally got beat. They lost to the Indians in the ALCS.

National League. D Backs won the west with the Dodgers getting the wild Card and the Championship.
            2. Mets won the east and were swept in ALDS
            3. Cubs won the Central with the Brewers getting the Wild Card. Cubs lost in 7 to the Dodgers in ALCS

            American League

            West- Astros (Lost in ALDS)
Central- Indians in a 3rd straight runaway year
East- Orioles with the Bluejays and Red Sox as the Wild Cards

So on to season 4. Offseason saw very little movement by me. I tried to get Andrew MCuthchen in FA but was outbid by the Dodgers. My best pitcher last year was Mike Minor but he was 33 and wanted a 4 year contract so he was not resigned. I refuse to give a contract to someone that puts them past 36. Regression is to dramatic after 36.

Here is how we look going in to season 4 Spring Training

            C- Taylor Barnhardt
            1B- Joey Gallo-
            2b- Willie Calhoun
            SS- Elvis
            3B- Wilmer Difo
LF- Carlos Motta- a second round draft pick 2 years ago now has a 80 rating
            CF- Leody Tavaras
            RF- Nomar Mazara
            DH- Michael Brantley

Only thing for sure in SPs is Garrett Cole and Danny Salazar.

My rockies are still slipping as I make it into mid-August. Pitching was terrible in a 4-game series at home against the 1st-place Dodgers where we lost all four. We're putting up runs, but not nearly enough.

I sent Chad Bettis down to AAA to get off his cold streak after a blasphemous three innings of game 1 in that series.

Now we're sitting at 8.5 games back, the Giants have now passed us by at 8.0 games back. We're not out of it yet, but things are starting to look pretty bleak.

Bright side: My two rookies are playing very well at the moment. OF Carlos Chavez is still killing it in his LHP platoon role, and OF/1B Bradford Robnett is currently on an 8 game hitting streak, including a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 16th against the Padres in the last game.

We've won 3 straight in Spring Training and all three were extra inning games. We played 13 against the Red Sox, 10 against the Braves, and just finished a 14 inning marathon with the Astros.

We also had to place Nick Martini on the 10 day DL with an elbow injury, he suffered sliding head first into 2nd base. He'll be back for the start of the regular season, but he will definitely now be playing in Memphis.

Few days into May the 2019 Red Sox are 23-11 and have a 5.5 game lead in the division over the Rays and the Orioles.

Drew Pomeranz currently leading the AL in ERA with a 1.32, with Chris Sale 2nd with a 1.69. Price, Porcello and Rodriguez have the 11th, 12th, and 15th ERA in the AL...Price at 2.36, Porcello at 2.38 and Rodriguez at 2.68.

Betts leading the team in hitting with a .323 average. J.D. Martinez leading team in HR's with 8 and RBI's with 19.

Approaching the winter meetings in my Yankees franchise. A lot of big deals.

We landed Bryce Harper on a huge 10 year deal.
We also were able to get DJ LeMahieu on a 3 year deal at 10.8M per season. We were able to bring Warren back as well on a 2 year deal for 2.8M per year. Still haven’t made a trade for a starter yet. Unfortunately we came away with nothing bullpen wise, Britton ended up going back to Baltimore. We still need a starter and 2 relievers. Matt Harvey could potentially fill the long relief role though. We also got Chris Taylor as the Dodgers didn’t offer him a contract. Issue is our money is pretty much gone.

                    Major signings around the league:
                    Dozier to Toronto
                    Moose back to KC
                    Salvador Perez back to KC
                    Brian McCann to Twins
                    Josh Harrison to Twins
                    Marwin González to Twins
                    Ian Kinsler to Twins
                    Bumgarner to LA Angels
                    Drew Pomeranz to Seattle
                    Manny Machado to Seattle
                    David Robertson to Texas
                    Sean Doolittle to Texas
                    Michael Brantley to Houston
                    Josh Donaldson to Braves
                    Nate Jones To Nationals
                    Eovaldi To Nationals
                    Dallas Keuchel To Nationals
                    AJ Pollock to Dodgers
                    Cody Allen to Giants
                    Paul Goldschmidt to Giants
                    Evan Gattis to Giants

Mattingly has just signed a 3 year deal, he’s our new manager.

John Gibbons is the new manager of the Mets.

At the midway point into my sox franchise I'm gunna put it on hold and pick up another franchise, likely a NL team. Cant decide if I want a decent team, try to make a push with a couple trades or go with an established team and make a push with them.

                      Hmm

                        Atlanta Braves Franchise

                        July 18, 2019

                        Braves Record: 39-59 (4th)

Congratulations to the Braves 2019 All-Stars, who made the team as reserves.

                        C Manny Pina: .286/.331/.483, 13 HR, 35 RBI, 31 R, 19 2B
                        CF Ender Inciarte: .293/.347/.439, 8 HR, 35 RBI, 47 R, 20 SB

Pina established himself as an offensive threat in 2018 in Milwaukee, and continued that trend this season after we acquired him via trade in the offseason. Inciarte makes his second all-star appearance as he remains one of the premier center fielders in the NL.

We won two consecutive series at home against the Reds and Mets heading in to the break. We have ascended from the basement and should get bolstered by the return of Brian Dozier from the DL this week. Still, we are likely out of it and continue to plan to be sellers as the trade deadline is less than 2 weeks ahead. Still not much activity to speak of, though the Brewers have emerged as potential suitors for Julio Teheran to rival the Cubs, who are also interested and are only 0.5 GB of Milwaukee for the division. Not much interest to speak of for Vizcaino as of yet. Both have pitched better this month.

Alright, about set on my other franchise, got a test going before I decide it 100% as my 2nd one behind my Red Sox franchise.

Unless I change teams, I went with the Brewers.

Unlike the team IRL I did not fail to trade for Machado.

Among other trades were shipping off Ryan Braun, hes aging and I personally just dont want to use him. Sorry Brewer fans. Ill be using Aguilar and Thames at 1B. I also made a trade to acquire Whitt Merrifiels dishing villar away. My goal here was to maintain the speed villar had. Better glove off while upgrading the contact to put him in the 2 hole behind cain. With cain and whitt 1 and 2, Machado and Yelich should have monster yesrs. With those 2 additions surining up my middle infield I'll look to acquire a solid SP and if possible a RP to pair up with Hader before I take on the year. Pretty excited. Were gunna make a push. Move aside Cubs.

Season restarts on Friday the 22nd, where the Cards travel to Milwaukee to face to Brewers. Morgan VandenHurk (11-3 4.29ERA) will face Harvey Roper (5-6 5.16ERA)

Cards have also been rumored to be looking to move OF/1B Johnny Snowden. The 23 year old has played sporadically for the Cards and Cards brass feels that he could acquire the Cards some bench depth and another bullpen arm. Update: Cardinals have traded OF/1B Johnny Snowden and AA OF/1B Ethan Shaver to the Baltimore Orioles for 1B George Guerrero and LF Sebastian Guzman. Guerrero, 18, is the top prospect in the Orioles' organization but was blocked at 1B by Chris Hill and LF Sebastian Guzman is a 18 year old from Venezulela that is a "wild card". Great speed and defense but not sure if he'll hit enough to be an everyday player.

We have now played 4 straight extra inning games in Spring Training...

This time we lost to the Nationals 4-3 in 13 innings.

I'm really hoping we don't make it a 5th straight, as these extra inning games are throwing off my lineup/pitching schedule to evaluate players.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

The offseason is over and spring training 2019 is here. We made a few late significant moves.

We were considering making a run at Syndergaard in a trade but arbitration spiked his salary up too high for us to afford. With the possibility of trading for a top starter going out the window we turned to the bullpen instead. We missed out on the dominant lefty reliever we wanted in free agency so we used the trade market instead bringing in Brad Hand from the Padres. We gave up Andujar, Tate, and a SP we took in last years draft, B potential Raul Irizarry. In order to clear salary to make the deal happen the Padres helped us out by taking on Torreyes, Cessa, and Oliver Perez’s contracts. Two of those players had salaries of over 1M.

We addressed the 5th starter spot by signing Brandon McCarthy as he was unsigned as spring training was closing in. That rotation will do, especially with the bullpen and lineup we have.

In the rule 5 draft we selected 3 pitchers, SP Nick Tropeano, RP Kevin Siegrist, RP Sean Gilmartin. That was before the McCarthy signing and Hand trade. We ended up not needing Gilmartin so we released him, his old team didn’t want him back so he went to free agency. We then signed him back into the organization as depth.

Wainwright, Alec Asher, AJ Schugel, Jim Johnson, Bryan Mitchell, Bryan Pena, Joe Mauer, Garret Cooper, Brock Holt, Adrian Beltre, Sean Manuel, Alexi Amarista, Hunter Pence, Derek Dietrich, Rusney Castillo, Nick Markakis, Lonnie Chisenhall, were all brought in as cheap depth. Surprised no one wanted some of those guys, some of those guys are still decent, a lot of veteran depth there.

Nelson Cruz somehow fell into our lap as well right before spring training, he’s now our everyday DH in a very cheap 1 year contract. Though he can’t play defense and I don’t really like the idea of a guy clogging up the DH spot full time rather then rotating it, couldn’t resist making that signing. Regression has started to go to work on him but he’s plenty good with the bat, all contact and power are over 70 still. I suspect that thanks to regression he won’t be worth keeping the full season.

Once that time comes we can just DFA him thanks to that cheap 1 year deal he’s on.

On another note, it was a happy ending for Brett Gardner and the Yankees, after receiving no interest through free agency, with spring training almost here the Yankees and Brett Gardner agreed on a cheap 1 year contract to bring him back. He will serve as the next man up in case of injury, at AAA. Likely means he’ll be retiring in a Yankee uniform. Couldn’t just let him rot in free agency.

Might move a few of the higher rated vets I signed to teams that need players at that position. Seems a bit unfair.
