    2B Raul Mondesi (68)
    RF Micah Welch (64)

    DISABLED LIST:
    CF Delino Deshields Jr (76)

Adam Ottavino did horrible in Spring Training and lost his bullpen spot to Dan Altavilla who was absolutely lockdown in the middle relief role. So Ottavino is going to be closing in AAA for the time being. Deshields was amazing in Spring Training until 3 days before spring was over and got hurt, he was going to be my starting CF. So Ellsbury my backup is now holding the position down until he returns then it's back to spot starts for Ellsbury. Didn't really have any position battles during spring except for last bullpen spot which Altavilla won.

The team and fans are extremely excited with what this team will do. Hopefully end the 17 year playoff drought for the Mariners and hopefully... Hopefully make it to the World Series for the 1st time and maybe even possibly bring it home. Time will tell how the players and managers gel together.

      SEATTLE MARINERS UPDATE

Before game 1 of the year the Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto looked on the waiver wire and noticed RF Mark Trumbo there. The Mariners are currently ranked 22 in the power department. So adding Trumbo will be a good pickup as a bench power bat. It's no risk all reward as his contract is only 560K per year for 2 years. We have put a claim on him and will find out within next couple days if he will be joining the team

More Updates to follow as we start the season

Getting a little burnt out on my Braves franchise. I’m starting to get impatient and power sim and its starting to not be fun. I need a fresh start, anyone wanna help me pick a team? Id prefer one that doesn’t already have a log here, so that should rule out Cards, Mets, Yankees, Mariners, Marlins, Royals, White Sox (any others?) Help!

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Marlins are stumbling a bit to the end of June.

Granted, it's hard to complain about much after recently coming off that long win streak, but the team is just 2-2 since.

The pitching as become inconsistent recently and now that the bats aren't getting tons of runs, it's starting to show in the results.

Loren Rasmussen continues his inexplicable mediocrity, giving up 5 runs (3 earned) in 6 innings as the Marlins lost 5-4. The bullpen delivered zeroes in relief but the bats couldn't scratch across one more run.

With July coming soon, the Marlins may begin looking around for adding a pitcher to the rotation, parting with Clemente, Rasmussen, or some others like Huey Kiser if a bigger package comes along.

Otherwise, the team might deal them for prospects and swap in these other arms, even if they are young. Morales has already returned. Kiser seems like he should be ready and there's potential phenom Jason Engle tantalizing close to the majors, though he needs to get command of his funky arsenal.

It has been a while since the Marlins have needed to worry about their starting rotation or its future, but this year might be a "work on it" year.

              SEATTLE MARINERS UPDATE

So game 1 is in the record books and it was a tough lose for the Mariners. SP Chris Archer gave up a couple HRs to Villar and Bour and they never looked back. Cueto was on the Hill for the Indians and absolutely dominated the Mariners for the first 7 innings only giving up 2 hit and a walk. Kris Bryant hit q 2run HR off Cueto in the 8th to get Cueto out the game. Then Erick Aybar hit a solo shot off Roberto Osuna in the 9th. Finally score was 4-3 Indians

GM Dipoto made another trade for a RP getting Fernando Rodney for 2 low B level prospects.

How about brewers or jays? Both could buy or sell depending on how their seasons are going

Does the real-life trade deadline get to anyone else like it does me?

I always start with the default roster and my franchise becomes its own universe. I'm not really worried about how it compares to real life. Scott Kazmir (released in spring training IRL) has arguably been the best starter in my Braves franchise. Lane Adams (released and now back in AAA IRL) has been my LF all season.

But now I want to add Duvall. And Gausman. And O'Day. I have a house rule that I have to use the trade block to make trades. Gausman is on the block. I could actually swing that one, and it would make sense in the context of my franchise. Duvall would make sense as well, but I need the Reds to put him on the block.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Marlins have begun the reshaping of the team.

The first trade came as a complete surprise to most. The Marlins parted company with Prince Jimenez, with one reason being his poor clubhouse presence and attitude about his role on the team.

"He wanted to start, and I get that. He might have felt upset over our hesitance to move Bo Winter from the outfield and the fact Greg Rivera looks like he is earning the job at first base. That's keeping Prince out of the starting lineup and I guess he had enough, " the Marlins GM commented.

Jimenez was indeed adamant about being not only starter but a core member of the lineup, which was never going to happen in the Marlins lineup, barring injuries. Unlike Sammy Chastain, who has accepted his role and is playing his hardest when he gets on the field.

To that end, the Marlins packaged Jimenez with promising SS prospect Russell Dawson to the Diamondbacks for prospect RF Luis Gutierrez, SP Dalton Couch, and SP Jackson Collins.

Gutierrez is the centerpiece coming back and is noted for having a ridiculously strong arm. Eventually, Arturo Gonzalez will begin slowing down (right?) and grooming Gutierrez as his successor is the plan.

Dalton Couch is a solid pitcher on paper, but he never put it together in four seasons with the Diamondbacks, and this year he has an ERA over 9.00 in 32 innings. However, the Marlins see something in him and they will give him at least one start in the rotation, displacing, for now, Loren Rasmussen to long relief where Clemente was.

Jackson Collins is a young knuckleballer project that might have some promise if he can catch a break. Right now, he's just a speculative prospect, but one the Marlins saw no harm in picking up.

In a second trade, Frank Clemente was traded to the Twins in return from SP prospect Adolfo Cordero and 1B prospect Juan Almanzar.

Cordero is a promising young pitcher that will begin work at AA-Jacksonville. He has a full five-pitch repertoire though consistent movement on his pitches is something of a question mark. Scouts do like the makings of his swing and miss stuff, so he may work more on change of speed and angle more than raw break.

Juan Almanzar might be a trade piece for later in the month as most don't think the Marlins really need him, either now or in the future. Greg Rivera is doing everything asked of him and then some right now and scouts are starting to sing his praises now that they get a better look at him against tougher competition.

Whether that move comes and when is anyone's guess. The Marlins will likely take a week or two to see how things go before contemplating more moves.

Ended up simming to the trade deadline in 2018 with my new Yankees chise - more interested in playing the years ahead with this team, but also wanted to play the 2nd half of the year. (Also have the Pads).

Currently 61-35 after the ASB, lead the Red Sox by 2 games in the division. Team had a really poor May but caught fire in June and we've played pretty well since.

                      Couple interesting tidbits:

                      - Judge was having a red-hot start to the season but went down with a broken wrist in mid-June. Out til at least end of August. Traded Billy McKinney and another C level prospect to the Reds for Adam Duvall to help make up for things. Nice player, plays multiple position and has performed well in Judge's slot. Hits a lot of homers.

                      - CC is unfortunately struggling through an injury plagued season and has been demoted to the Pen. (Doubt I bring him back). Made yet another trade with the Reds and grabbed DeScalfani to help plug in. He's been good.

                      - Looking to add Britton to the pen .. but O's have balked at two different offers I've made so far. (Pretty fair ones at that). Gonna wait til closer to the deadline to see if they bite.

Stanton, Gleyber, and Didi have all paced the team hitting wise and are having good seasons, with Stanton sitting comfortable at 28 homers. The pitching staff has been the real star though - both Tanaka and Montgomery have ERAs under 3, while Sevvy has bounced back from a tough start to the season. (ERA was close to 10 at the end of April) to perform really well. Even Sonny Gray has done well in his time. It's a good rotation.. my plan is to go after Kuechel heavily in the off-season though.

Bout to kick off the first post ASB series against the Mets!

I like that house rule. It keeps things interesting and allows you to play the game as it comes to you.

I feel you though. I feel pretty obligated to try and trade for Britton now that the Yankees grabbed him.

I also move the 'trade frequency' slider to 10 in July. Maybe its a bit crazy, but I sort of like seeing a lot of trades in my chise and seeing a "altered version" of what could be.

So I let me nephew play on my PS4 and he deleted my franchise and a bunch of other stuff it really sucks especially after doing all 90 rounds for all 30 teams.

But enough moping, I have decided to just do a regular Franchise with the Seattle Mariners. Dont feel like redoing a fantasy draft lol I will give Updates when I actually start the Franchise and of course keep my nephew far away from my PS4 lol

I'm a little torn right now - I'm controlling the Padres from afar, and they're in dead last in the NL West (other 4 teams are all competitive). Rays are battling O's for last place in the AL East.

With Archer moving today and the rumors suggesting San Diego was pretty heavily involved, do I make a trade for him? I'm not sure its *totally * fair to the Rays as he's having a great season, and I'm also a little unsure about giving up a big prospects for him. Fair trade would probably include at least Quantrill/Baez + two other B potential guys at least..

Ill probably have to think it over some more. I also reallllly want Britton, and it looks like a deal for Josh Rogers, Dillon Tate, and Tyler Austin will do it, but I'm hesitant. Neil Walker is my other 1B and he's out with a broken foot for at least another month. Not sure I can afford to part with Austin unless I can move Shreve/Warren for a backup 1B.

                              Decisions decisions..

Currently my Rockies sit at 74-68, just 1 game back of the last wildcard spot, and basically out of contention for the NL West with the Dodgers out to a commanding lead.

The NL Wild card race is packed with the runner up of the NL East between the Nationals and Mets pretty much guaranteed the first wildcard spot, but all of the following teams are within 3 games of the second spot:

                                Reds (0)
                                Brewers (0)
                                Cardinals (0.5)
                                Giants (1.0)
                                Rockies (1.0)
                                Phillies (3.0)

My Rockies are looking pretty hot as of late, coming off a three game sweep at home versus the Dodgers, who are comfortably at first place in the NL.

Rookie outfielder Carlos Chavez is still absolutely killing it in his platoon role, batting .386 against LHPs and .326 overall. My other rookie outfielder/first baseman, Bradford Robnett, hasn't fared quite as well (.216), but he's been a better alternative to hitting 1B Matt Olson versus LHPs. Olson has hit .146 against lefties, and 17 of his 18 homers are against righties, so he's just a huge liability when the opposing pitcher is a LHP.
