I don't think there's anything wrong with people building reputations based on what they post about. Sorry that you don't like it, but it's inevitable. People are going to discount positive posts by people who virtually always make positive posts; people are going to discount negative posts by people who always make negative posts.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.10 Available, Patch Notes Here
TBH I hate this line of thinking. We all play the game, we all have our own opinions on it. We all have things we like and dislike about it. We don't need to be lumped into groups that make it easier for people to rationalize their own opinions (by demeaning the other "group").
Not to mention these labels get applied incorrectly and unfairly. CB sat out most (all?) of '17 and still somehow got accused of white-knighting it. Armor, for those of you who don't know, streams practically every day and is never shy to point out when something wonky happens live in his games. He likes the game, obviously, but he's not afraid to point out the issues he experiences.
I absolutely HATE the labeling that goes on, not only in this sub-forum, but ALL of OS. It's such a cheap way of trying to make an argument.
My two cents.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.10 Available, Patch Notes Here
SpoilerI don't take any of the blame for being "too positive" about the game, or a fanboy, or white knight, or whatever in the hell people want to label me. It's almost getting to the point where you can't like the game on the forums anymore. If you do then you're this or that.
No I haven't seen some of the issues that people have experienced in the game. Why? I don't know, but I haven't. But apparently saying that is wrong because doing so means I'm defending the game or too positive? Why is it ok to post an issue that you're having with the game but not post that you're not experiencing the issue???
If I didn't like the game, I would do like I did last year, share what I didn't like and move on and play something else. But there are some for whatever reason that feel the need to continue to only post negative stuff and seemingly only show up in threads when there is an opportunity to post negative stuff or agree with negative posts that have been written.
I like the game this year. I think it is by far the best baseball video game that I've played. Does it have its faults? Yes it does, but why would I want to continue to post and focus only on the negative when there is so much about the game that I like?Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.10 Available, Patch Notes Here
I was bummed about the patch hitting on legend & as a last ditch effort, started using all contact swings instead of normal & power. Hitting homeruns, doubles, singles, its playing much better now.Comment

Are you using directional or zone?
Just curious as Begby is having difficulty with directional and seeing if we can’t help him out

I realize that my statement isn't all that original, or helpful/constructive, but I'm not wrong. Both of you guys, whom I have no issue with at all, especially since you're both intelligent and helpful, tend to have nothing but good things to say. Which I fully understand since you're both having great experiences. It's discrediting other people's negative experiences that gets people to say things like I just did. I'd never accuse Countryboy of the latter however, as I have seen him have discussions with people. You I just see say things like "Nope. Best year yet. Playing like a dream."
Anyway, I know you're having a great experience, and I hope it continues. But I am not imagining losing all of these games. I truly wish I could use your sliders and get some wins, but I'm legitimately struggling and as far as I can tell it's patch related. Unscientific results, I know, but it's all I got.
Hey I am just keeping things light in here. And I have not been here trying to discredit anyone who is having legitimate issues.
Last years game had a lot more issues which I was fully aware of and pointed out to the development team through bug reports and some discussion via PM. Like legitimate bugs that hurt gameplay. And they addressed those in earnest this cycle. Many of those issues have been really smoothed out (new tagging system, far better catcher throwing, improved Humanity AI, really amazing ball physics).
When patches drop, I play, observe and report anything I see that is wonky with my games playing my style and settings. Thus far after each update, for me the game has improved more and more.
So again just reporting what I am seeing. And I am certainly not here to discredit players encountering problems. Members like CB, Bcruise, Josh1977 (and many others) and I are constantly exchanging notes and thoughts on the game.
We all want a great game and playing experience.
But one thing we are agreeing on is there is a lot of user error and input contributing to so called bugs or perceived problems with gameplay.
It’s our opinion, and not fact.
Simple as that.
And we all have agreed this is easily one of the very best console sports game we have ever played.
So it’s not just me or CB. It is a lot of long time community members here thinking this.
The reason I hang out here is really to share ways to throughly enjoy sports games. And more importantly to offer ways to “play through” the inherent imperfections of sports games so you can stop “sweating the small stuff” and enjoy how great sports games are today.
Because they are simply a lot better than yesteryear in terms of realism and gameplay (speaking about baseball and basketball games).

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.10 Available, Patch Notes Here
I'll admit I haven't played many games since the latest patch, only ~8 so far. I just wanted to say for those who are always complaining about not hitting homers, what the hell are you doing? I've been hitting them at "video game" rates throughout each and every patch regardless of what else has changed. My teams have good power, which obviously helps, but it seems very easy to be tops in the league in HR.
I use Zone hitting and 99% of the time I use "X" to swing with the other 1% being contact swing with a weaker hitter behind in the count. I never use power swing because for the last few years I have realized you don't need it.
Also, since there was a few patches dropped and some roster moves, I went against what I had been thinking and restarted my Yankees Chise after the last patch. In the opening 4 game series at Toronto we hit 14 HR. I had 3 HR games with both Judge and Stanton and did something I don't believe I have ever done in the Show before and hit two grand slams in one game in consecutive At bats in consecutive innings with Giancarlo Stanton! He added a solo shot in his next AB.
Sure I occasionally see a wonky play in the field where someone doesn't pick up a ball in the OF or in my game two loss where Hicks dropped can of corn right at him in a big spot, or when you go after a pitch high in the zone and ground into a routine double play, but weird **** happens in baseball too and sometimes it's just gonna happen. THATS BASEBALL.
I guess I'm a White Knight too because the Show is my fav video game.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.10 Available, Patch Notes Here
I am concerned about hitting since the 1.10 patch as the averages for all of my RTTS players are tanking. Some of it is my fault. Some of it is myself swinging at pitches out of the strike zone or pitches which paint a corner. But I am also squaring up some pitches in the middle of the strike zone with good 90+ mph exit speeds and still only making weak contact that more often than not is resulting in an easy out. It's not panic time. I know I can change slider settings (but I also don't want to be chasing sliders) and trust me when I say I can take failure. I know in baseball I am doing well when I fail 7 out of every 10 attempts. But I am just putting it out there. All is not always well in Mudville.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.10 Available, Patch Notes Here
Nobody is saying that you have to dislike the game a certain amount or make X number of negative posts to offset the positive ones. But, when multiple people are accusing you (in PMs apparently) of "white knighting" and it's bothering you, maybe it's time to reassess. I think part of the issue is not even really that you have positive things to say about the game, but that you seem to confront almost every single post that has anything negative to say.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.10 Available, Patch Notes Here
Ok...you're using Dynamic Difficulty. Have you tried turning it off and playing on a set level? Maybe try playing on just Veteran and see if anything changes.
Or maybe try your luck with Zone hitting to see if that helps?
I wouldn't think that something happened in the patch to mess up dynamic difficulty but maybe it did???
Worth a shot maybe
I did play at Legend without DD engaged prior to the last few patches. Only after 7 straight losses with what appeared to be a very predictable/neutered offense did I activate DD. As I said it's dropped me all the way to vet, with suspiciously similar stats.
Appreciate your help and being understanding.Comment

Despite me saying you white knight the game I still believe that you wish for a realistic game. I absolutely know that you help people with your streams and sliders. I've watched your games. I've used your sliders. I'm not saying that you're wrong. I just wish that when I turned on the game, I got the same results.
I fully recognize there is user error on my part. I'm in no way shape or form suggesting otherwise. I even mentioned in a post in another thread a while back that people struggle and won't admit that it might be on them and that they play at a skill level well above their pay grade. I'm just saying that right now, no matter what I do, I can't play realistic baseball because I can't hit at all. Once you have no ability to hit, all the numbers go crazy. I'll end games with their pitcher(s) throwing 100-110 pitches a game. Their strike percentage will be around 70 because Vet is so terrible, yet I press X on a ball right down the middle, and I am lucky to see it leave the infield.
When you're in my situation and guys like you make posts that intimate (could be me) that we're doing it wrong and the game is great and we also know that the game was/is great because just a couple of weeks ago I was having as much fun as one could have playing a video game - it's frustrating. Again...I can't win a single game. I can't hit. I don't want to beat the ball around all the time. I don't. I just want to do better than 4.6 hits per game, 0.40 homers a game, 0 triples in 20 games. I don't want to ground into a double play 7 times out of 10. I don't to know that even if by some fluke I kept them off the board that come the 6th inning they are getting hits and I am automatically done because I already have 3 of my hits and mathematically I cannot get more runs than them now.
Patches have changed the game and from what I can tell it has made it so that I just can't hit. I'd like to be in your shoes. Unfortunately I'm stuck wearing mine.
I'll watch some of your last few games on Twitch. Maybe I'll see something that'll help me. I appreciate your efforts, sir and just because I think you white knight the game doesn't mean I think you're wrong. They aren't mutually exclusive.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.10 Available, Patch Notes Here
I'll give that a shot. to be clear, I literally never, ever use power. Never. I just use normal and contact. I'd say I use normal about 60% of the time. If I am down in the count I exclusively use contact.Comment

I use the power button with my power hitters.
I hone in on pitches down the middle in high-stress spots and/or where I'm up in the count or its 0-0.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Patch 1.10 Available, Patch Notes Here
To use the term tossed around by a lot of onliners, the "meta" has been altered somewhat with this patch. That's the PCI change where it was shrunk ever so slightly (especially for outside edges of the PCI - which can result in a lot more swings-misses, leading to more bad counts, leading to more bad outcomes). But, it is inherently neither a good thing nor a bad thing - it's just different.
I saw a lot of people early-on say, "Oh yeah, I've always been a (insert difficulty) hitter, but now I am going with (insert higher difficulty)." People might want to take a step back (if they are unhappy) and maybe reconsider their personal settings...it might just be that you need to go back to your "tried and true" setting. (At the very least, get that foul frequency slider back up a notch or two).Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment
