I have been playing MVP baseball recently and they have a bunting ability slider for the cpu and user which is very effective. The show has always been very stingy in regards to allowing the user to adjust the game on a wider scale and also shutting them out of critical adjustments for game balance.

True. I believe the sliders are 20/80 as opposed to what they should be 1/100.

Takes so much strategy out of the game. This is supposed to be a true sim.

I can't really even play it anymore. It's sad, but I've soured on the game to the point of maybe playing once or twice a month.

I thought it would be safe to bunt with a man on 2nd since nobody ever covers 3rd, but since there wasn't a force my runner just stood on 2nd causing me to waste an out. Apparently I'll have to start manually sending him. Is there any way to put a contact play on so my runner knows to go for 3rd as soon as I put the bunt down?

Having read through this thread and seeing all the frustration, I'd like to add something that I think has been missed in the discussion. The decision on the part of the devs to alter the bunting mechanics/physics is deserving of criticism because it pushes the real problem out of the picture and makes matters worse.

The issue is not bunting but defense...if people online are taking advantage of bunting then this means there is not an effective way to counter it defensively. All you have to do is imagine what would happen in real life if a MLB team continually bunted against an opponent. After a couple of times, the catcher, pitcher, and corner infielders would be prepared for it. The would creep up, charging the area in front of the plate. Essentially, there reaction to the play would increase as its attempted more and more.

But defensive positioning in the game is somewhat limited. You can bring the corners in, but does this really change their readiness?

If you are playing this game, and you know a bunt is coming, and yet you also know you will be unable to stop it, then THAT is what needs to be fixed.

Bunt readiness needs to be something that can be implemented as an additional defensive shift or with some kind of hot button...this will cause your corner infielders to charge hard in anticipation and your pitcher/catcher's reaction time to increase. The trade off is you lose reaction if the batter swings away.

This would eliminate the need to change the bunting physics...which is a terrible band-aid solution which wrecks other parts of the game and just spreads the problem around.

This is and always has been a defensive issue...that's what needs fixed, then they no longer need these ridiculous bunt rocket shots.

The fact that they thought it was a good idea to take one of the basic fundamentals of baseball and turn it into a joke to appease the AGGREGAR children online who will never be happy independently and suppress their incessant whining, should tell you everything you need to know where are your priorities tbh.

I do not mind two froggy focks if someone "cheesed" in line with Billy Hamilton and company. and you have problems with that. He is a boss of personal problems, and comes with the territory to play a sports game online. See: any other sports game that exists with an online mode.

I can't really know for sure because I don't use default sliders,
combined with my less than stellar skill level
just checking to see if the last week has been time enough to render a meaningful verdict

I’ve only bunted 5-6 times so far and only o e has been a rocket to the first baseman.

The others haven’t all been successful but they’ve looked like a bunt should look. I’ve been happy so far.

Using dynamic difficulty, directional hitting, between all star and all star +

I don't believe it's been fixed. I've tried to sac bunt 4 times now and all 4 either made it to the infield dirt or were caught as basically a line drive for an easy out.

The CPU has tried to sac bunt twice against me. One resulted in a popup caught in the dirt between 1st and 2nd. The other came off the bat hard and was an easy double play.

I've drag bunt once so far and it actually was how a bunt should be off of the bat, died slightly up the line 10 feet from home plate.

Sac bunts are still broken in my limited experience so far.

I guess having 3 separate game modes still doesn't allow them to tune the bunts on simulation to actually behave like real bunts. It's ridiculous they've destroyed bunting in the game because they had no idea how to fix it from being exploited online.

Bunting has been fine on my end. Aside from bunting in the air, I’ve been successful in sacrifice bunting

First of all I love how this OP is from 2018. It’s been a problem every year since then, that’s sad lol. Secondly I haven’t bunted much but I always forget to “deaden” it by letting go of triangle right when the ball is about to hit the bat. I’ve seen a few people say that works. Honestly haven’t tried it much myself yet.

I haven't hit into any DP's but I too have popoed up a couple to the pitcher. as long as the gidp bunts don't happen, I'll be fine with an occasional bunt. honestly I'm more likely to drop down a drag than attempt a sacrifice, unless it's late and a single tally will do

Yeah I try to release triangle just before contact as I always have and its better this year than year's past.

Also the CPU is better at not taking silly chances at getting the lead runner that would result in men on first and second.
