Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
Disappointing to read that the real contracts were, as many feared, rushed in to appease franchise folks with nary a thought after that.
But anyone who has played this game knows that this is the usual beat around here. And the beat goes on..."The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws."

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
Color me not surprised. Sony really needs to hire some new talent to tackle this mode, see general details of. I think they're just too overextended and a lot of the guys they do have out there in San Diego just seem to have other development interests with the game. I mean you put in a single new "feature" and it doesn't really work. BooChicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
I hope that they at least tune the trade logic. The trades are mostly one for one minor leaguers. System seems to not value the higher tiered players, or there is not enough budget room to absorb them in prospect for vet trade.
There is occasionally the vet for vet salary match trade. The default roster from last year has more trades as well as better quality trades.
I guess I could live with salaries coming back down, but trade logic I cant.

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
I also noticed at one point that the Rays had a total budget north of $200 million. I don’t know what their normal budget is, as I’ve never used them so have no context (my test sim had GM contracts on and I just picked them randomly after getting fired), but that seemed pretty high.
I don’t care at all about “real” contracts or team budgets so much as ensuring player movement throughout the league works in a way that makes sense in the context of my franchise world. One of the most frustrating things to me with 18 was that no teams had money left, so free agents went unsigned and trades were often nearly impossible. If that has been “fixed” with the way things work now, I’m more than fine with the problems people are experiencing here. My aims with franchise are pretty niche, though, so I get the frustrations others have.
My main focus on simming was to look at prospect generation and leaguewide player progress.
I think I got about seven years in.
We still have tons of prospects 23-25 years old, which bugs me a lot. That’s totally unrealistic in the draft, and if they’re high-potential, low-overall prospects those old guys are basically useless. No reason to ever bother looking at them.
Also, every team in the league had at least 10 players 82 overall or higher by the time I stopped simming. In the default rosters, even some good teams have players in the 70s in their top 10. So attribute inflation is a bit of a problem. This was a big reason why budgets were challenging in 2018 IMO. Players wanted bigger contracts because the game made everyone better. There were fewer cheap, mediocre players who were good enough to make a team’s 25-man roster.Last edited by delspf; 03-26-2019, 10:27 PM.Can't believe I been a member here this longComment

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
Yeah, I mean not to go all negative or anything (I prefer to let all that evil out in the run-up to the game releasing and then stay away from the forums after the game comes out so that people who enjoy it can do so in peace)--but I still struggle to understand exactly how I went from reluctant MLB2K gamer to enthusiastic MLB 14 The Show gamer. To buying PS4 Pro and editing rosters like a madman on MLB 15/16/17. To not even getting MLB 18/19 guy. It's just too bad that this game has generally gone in a direction I find totally unappealing. Great for those who are enjoying it still, but yeah, in some ways this really feels like the demise of a once-proud title. Or at least a good chunk of it.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Without that, I’d find it borderline unplayable. But with it, I can spend an afternoon for each season I play and correct the stuff the game gets wrong.
I otherwise find it pretty enjoyable. It’s far from perfect, obviously, but it comes close enough that I can deal with the faults.
Probably won’t buy it in future years unless fixes are confirmed, though.Comment

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
Finally had a chance to look at the actual save file.
2027.
Tampa total payroll: $201 million
For context:
Yankees are somewhere around $250 (rough math because it doesn’t let you look at every team’s budget, which is annoying).
Royals are roughly $170 million.
I don’t have the time now to get more detailed than this, but I figure that’s a good indication of the high and low end of the budgets.
And FWIW, I started with the Royals and got fired for poor performance. Their budget is that high despite being pretty bad.Comment

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
Did a sim with a carryover franchise from '18 using OSFM and default contracts (not real). First 3 years are in the video below (forgot to record final 2). Will try to do a comparison of the same year using '19 default and carryover default.
- some low to mid 80s free agents not signed by year 5
- contracts for top players still backloaded
- contracts for top players reverting to '19 "real" levels

The quality and quantity of trades is much better with default. You do not see the blockbuster or quality vet traded in new contracts.

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
Sorry to ask again, but in the simulations you're running, does the CPU extend any contracts for their players in season?Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: Free Agent Contracts Undervalued
I've never seen a CPU extension. I think it is only human. They extend during arbitration and renewable as in the past.
I actually prefer it that way.
